"Sphinxes do the riddle thing..." Allegra announced, rolling her eyes at the boy's mix up. Granted, both had the body of lions and both were used to guard treasure, but they were still two totally different creatures. "The griffin originated in Greece and CAN be befriended by a highly trained wizard."

Dan nodded, why he had said that was out of his mind, but then again, it was probably just a mix up between Irish, French and English words. Daniel said however, "Noone really knows where they originated Pliny believed griffins came from Northern Russia; Aeschylus thought they originated in Ethiopia; and Bulfinch wrote that their native country was India."
Dan paused for a second and continued, "There are three types of Gryffins, the snake-griffin has a lion’s body, a snake’s head and a bird’s legs; the lion-griffin is lion-like but has hind legs shaped like those of a bird. And the hippogryph, the most well known."
Dan nodded, knowing that his simple mistake was covered by revealing Allegra's mistake.

"Actually, those creatures you named are different beasts," Becca announced, pleased with his basic knowledge, but disappointed with his generalizations. "Same family, to be sure, but still, different creatures. Like saying lions and tigers are the same. True griffins have a head of an eagle and a body of a lion"
"And as Miss Thornton pointed out, they are native to Greece but have spread to other parts of Europe and Asia, prefering to make their nests in mountain caves away from human contact," she continued to the class. "They mate for life, usually laying one or two stone coloured eggs at a time."
With this, she produced what appeared to be an ostrich egg sized piece of rock and carefully placed it on the table in front of her. "Unfertilized," she told the students as she gave them a chance to catch up on their notes.

Kellen finished his notes as the professor paused, though they were probably legible to no one but himself. He studied the egg that sat in front of her, noting colourations. It took him a moment to think that he should sketch the egg as well, which he started too, making notes of the colour and texture.

As the students studied the egg, she moved over to a large diagram of the beast, pointing out the different parts. "The strong wings enable it to fly at top speeds, even when laden down with large prey... The keen ears, sharp eyes, and hooked bill and talons make it a ferocious predator. It's tail will act like a rudder in flight while it's rear paws will give it a strong lift off."
