Connor shrugged his shoulders, wondering if Drew thought not having a Head Boy would be better than having him as Head Boy. It was just as he began mulling this over that Professor Davenport began the lesson, leaving Connor to slide into his seat, pulling his cup of tea closer to him as he did so. With one hand he lifted the cup to his lips, taking a small drink, and with the other he reached into his bag and retrieved his paper as well as pen. He had taken to using pens more, finding that the old fashioned quill and ink were getting tedious to carry around. Either the quill tip broke or the ink container cracked, but something always went wrong. Pens were much easier.
The sixth year pushed the tea and saucer farther away along the table to give himself some room to write. He put the title 23 Enigma at the top of the paper while jotting down a couple of Drew and Henry's points. Some of it seemed to be a bit of a stretch, and Connor spoke up, asking, " How do you know some of it's not a bit far fetched, though Professor? " Everything was related, he knew, but was it related because of the natural laws or because wizards were so keen on seeking out the connection between themselves and the other elements?

"In what way do you mean, Mr. Manning?" Professor Davenport asked, thinking the question could be answered in different ways depending on which way the Slytherin boy was posing his query. "Everything is connected, but as knowledgeable wizards, we have to decide how to use those connections," she told him. "The stronger the connection, the stronger the magic that connects them."
"The number 23 isn't special, but it's a classic example of how some people take things too far," she continued. "Yes, everything will have connections, but it's up to us to decide what those connections mean and how much weight we put on them."

"So like, my connection to 23 is stronger than say, my sister's?" Drew asked, finding this all kind of interesting. "You can connect everything to 23, but I can use my connection more than Allegra can use hers because it's more direct, right? I mean unless her character number is a reduction of that or something...." Drew pushed his cup aside and pulled a piece of paper towards him so he could do some quick figuring.
"... Nope." Allegra was a nine, and while Drew knew it really didn't matter one way or the other, he still did a little happy dance in his seat.
