"Alright. Just wanted to be sure so I know to be watchful for a little scampering critter around the house," Derek replied somewht amused by the whole thing. When he'd said it he'd mostly been teasing but on a serious note he probably would have been startled if he'd found a squirrel in his sock drawer especially if he'd just woken up. Knowing him he probably would have closed the drawer and just written it off to being his imagination getting to him which that in itself would have been a little hard to believe.
"Sure being a rescuer sounds all well and good but I wouldn't want to be one at your expense. Now what kind of person would I be if I just stood here and laughed at you all the while, while you waited for someone to happen on you," he replied with a smile.
"Yes i'm sure I don't mind," Derek said with a reassuring smile, "If I didn't want to help you I wouldn't have offered." He usually didn't say anything he didn't mean and wouldn't carry out it just wasn't in him. He thought the whole concept of saying something you didn't mean was rather ridiculious. "So what do you say we find somewhere just be careful to watch your steps," he added still somewhat teasing her about the whole thing.

"You'd be a person with humor," she grinned back teasingly. Of course she figured he would've helped her even if she fell through the stairs three more times; maybe he'd do so grudgingly, but he'd do so nonetheless. At that moment she couldn't really imagine Derek just standing and laughing at anyone stuck in the stairs, but it was fun to try.
"All right," she replied with a small laugh. Being careful to step over the stair not there, she made her way up to the top of the stairs, pile of papers in hand. The blond had already decided she liked the boy, he was kind and funny, and he was someone she didn't have to force into being her friend. There would be no following around on this one, she could tell.
"So..." she started sitting down on the floor and looking at the papers. It was going to take a bit of time.

"You'd be the first one to say I'd have one upon meeting me," Derek replied with a smile in all seriousness. The people that knew him the best or that he talked to often would say he had one. But if you were to ask someone he didn't really talk to or had just met he usually came off as serious and not having much of a sense of humor. So he couldn't really hide his amusement at what she'd told him.
Giving a small smile of consent he began to walk up the stairs beside her careful to make sure he didn't end up getting stuck in a stair. Out of the corner of his eye every so often he made sure to watch Felicity's but just casually enough that she wouldn't notice. Derek wanted to be ready just in case so he could catch her before she ever got the chance to get stuck again.
Taking the seat beside her, "So what do you think of this year so far? Have you met alot of people?" Derek said deciding to finish off her thought for her since it had seemed she hadn't been sure what to say. Looking at the mess of papers before them he looked back to her, "Do you want to put these in any specific order? By date or anything," he asked so he wouldn't just end up screwing up the whole thing.

"Ah, but you can laugh and joke," she replied. "That's indication of humor hiding somewhere, even if one had to dig deep to find it." Really, she hadn't had to dig at all, he freely offered it to her, but in her own opinion it was quite true. Even the Slytherin she'd met in the dungeons had humor, an odd humor, but one nonetheless.
"I've met a few fair," she answered his second question thinking it took priority. "I'd like to get to know a few more of the students in our year, but I haven't really had the chance to do so." Of course that was due mostly to looking for her squirrel, keeping an eye on the Giant Squid, and because of the spell she and Celina had tested that'd ended with her being out for a week and a half. There really wasn't enough time to do things. "But I plan on it, as soon as I can figure out a good schedule and stick to it."
A schedule of course would have been like gold to the girl, but she never would stick to one, even if it worked for her. "And I like it. It's really interesting here, different. There are so many people compared to where I went to school in London." Of course the number wasn't larger, but the quirks of each person she'd met made up for many of the people she'd had classes with at home. "What about you? Anything about the year to make you think?"
Nodding her head in response to his last question, she figured date would be best to sort the papers by. At least they'd be in some sort of order then.

"Yeah I know I have humor somewhere in here hiding," he said indicating his body with his hands, "And well we all have our moments when we act out of the norm," he replied with a smile. Sure he was more often then not serious but everyone had those days where humor or silly behavior in general was freely given. But in this case he chucked it off to Felicity herself having something to do with it it was a little hard to remain standoffish when you run into someone stuck in a stair.
"I know what you mean I've been meaning myself to get to know more people here. I really don't wont to end up stuck with my cousin for the rest of the year," he added with a slightly wry smile upon his lips. "That makes sense a schedule would help so you could get everything done so you'd have time to meet people. Though if I were to consider doing what i'm guessing i'd only be able to follow it for maybe two weeks. And that's me being optimistic."
Anything to make him think... he thought to himself a little confused as to what she might be getting at by her words. But deciding just to go with what he assumed she must me talking about he said, "So far I like Hogwarts it seems like a pretty cool school and their do seem to be people attending here from all over the globe. That's definetly a change from my last school."
Noting her nod he began to shuffle through the paper's to look for the dates and as he did he spread them about slightly so he'd be able to see all the different dates more easier. "Well this definetly gave us a rather interesting way to get to talk," he added with slight amusement. It seemed like it was only when he didn't expect to run into anyone that he did.

"I doubt I'd be able to stick to a schedule for very long. I'm not good with them, even studying schedules. I'd rather just go at it on a whim," she smiled back at him. That was when all of the good things happened, when it was completely unexpected to have. A prime example that popped into her mind was meeting Celina, Felicity hadn't expected the toilet to explode on her, nor had she expected the girl to pop into the loo and tell her to apologize to the toilet. Definitely unexpected, but it was good.
"Who is your cousin?" she asked curiously, hoping she wasn't overstepping boundaries by inquiring. "And I'd be willing to hang around with you. You wouldn't have to be stuck with your cousin all of the time," she flashed another smile at him. Yes, she did like the boy, he was nice. Someone she knew she'd get along with quite well, without major fights, unlike with the boy she really liked. "Just no more stair meetings."
Her grin remained while he answered her question, she had indeed meant what he thought, it was just the writer hadn't properly put the words. "That it did," she agreed, sticking her tongue out at him. "I think I have to find more ways to meet people like this more often. It seems to be better meetings when things are out of alignment." Once more she thought about Celina, and then about Drew and how he'd showed her his boxers the first time they met. Yes, both had been interesting meetings, just like this one.

"I can't honestly say I've ever really done anything on a whim. To be honest I usually think things through or at least somewhat so. My cousin is the reckless one in the family I've never exactly been dubbed such," he replied his wry expression still firmly in place at his words. He'd never really thought it through but now that it had come up he finally acknowledges his own words to put it simply. "More often then not things just happen to find me and then I end up thrown in the mix," he said with a slight laugh, "If that makes any sense what so ever."
Derek didn't really mind that she'd asked about his cousin, "Oh he's Nick hmm... well you might not know him. He's the guy that wore his pajamas to Astronomy," he replied with a slight roll of his eyes. "He says its because I threw a shoe at his head which technically okay I did but I wasn't aiming for it. It's really not my fault he moved that half an inch as it came at him," he replied with the barest of grins on his lips at the image it created in his mind. "I was mostly exaggerating about my cousin he's not that much of a pain anyways I got Ancient Runes without him," he replied with a smile, "And thanks for the offer I might just take you up on that sometimes. Oh I don't know stair meetings really aren't that bad after all I do get to be rescuer."
"Oh so know your going to plan these little run-ins with people are you," Derek said mostly teasing Felicity since he doubted she'd meant it quite so literally but then again you never did quite know for sure. "Like I said these situations usually just find me or I just end up coming across them like in our case."

"It makes sense," she told him. Being in the right place at the right time, or wrong place at the wrong time, happened more often than naught for many. And if that was the way his life happened to go, then good for it. Planning everything took away from too much as it was, and even though the blonde had been doing a lot of planning, she didn't like it very much. Especially as it seemed nothing really went the way it should've.
"Nick's your cousin?" she asked curiously. It hadn't been long ago that she'd actually made acquaintance with the boy, when she'd been lost on the sixth floor and happened across him, or rather he her. The memory of the boy in class pajama-clad came to mind even before Derek said anything. It wasn't something to forget. The first class in the subject, all the trouble the class had been in, and to top it off he'd worn his pajamas. "I didn't really think your cousin could be all that bad. It's just family exaggeration and exasperation," she smiled. It hadn't occurred to her until then, the family resemblance. While they weren't carbon copies, the two boy did look an awful lot alike. Why it hadn't hit her until he'd said something, especially as Nick had mentioned a cousin, she didn't know.
"No, stair meetings aren't terrible, but it wasn't exactly great being stuck in them either," she defended her argument lightly. While it had been funny, and kind of fun, it wasn't exactly her cup of tea to do again. But if she got to meet people like Derek more often that way, if might not really be that bad of a thing. "Well, I could be. That way I get to meet more people like you, or people who are in an extreme need of a friend or a good laugh."

"Yeah Nick's my cousin alright his mom is my mom's sister. To think I'm sadly related to him," he said with a somewhat disappointed tone but despite it it was clear by his smile that he really didn't mind Nick all that much. Really would you spend your winter break's with someone who you couldn't stand. "He really isn't that bad. We just bicker all the time is all and besides me wanting to throw something at his head sometimes that's about as far as it goes," he smiled. "To be honest I think its because it alot of ways we're completely different," Derek said giving a slight shrug.
"True. I know I wouldn't have wanted or liked being trapped in a stair myself. But somehow I don't see some readily helping me out of it like they would you," he said with a slight laugh. He absorbed her last words which for some reason sobered him. "Well that's nice of you I suppose everyone now and then needs a friend or at least a friendly face."

Flushing a little at what he said, she smiled at him. Just because she was a girl didn't mean someone would readily help her out. She'd just been lucky enough so far that the boy's she'd run into were kind ones and not the type that would happily leave her where she was and keep walking by. And really, Felicity thought most girls who might've happened upon Derek would gladly help him out, he was very nice and he was what would be considered cute. It would be the guys who'd probably have a good laugh, and even then they'd most likely help him out of the stairs, too.
"Everyone really does need a friend once in a while," she agreed wholeheartedly. "Even if they think they don't or act as though they'd rather be left alone. Nope, I really think everyone needs a friend, and sometimes a stranger is an even better friend than someone you actually know, right? Because they'd be less likely to judge you." Felicity hoped what she was saying made sense as she wasn't sure how else to explain it.
