Ken walked into his classroom 10 minutes before class was supposed to start and looked at the room. He had yet made much changes to the room. There were posters and pictures on the wall at the far end posted by previous occupants. But he did request to have different furnitures. He always preferred to have one big found table instead of smaller rectangular desks.
He was deep in thought and didn't realize it's time to start the lesson. He continued to picture how he wanted the room to be when the door opened.

Ash smiled, walking into the room. Ancient Runes, she had never taken the class in all four years although was eager to see the new professor. She beamed at the man as she entered his classroom. Truthfully, she wasn't looking forward to another class to worry about-- she had enough on her mind already.
Seeing that she was the first one here, Ash took a random seat in the room and began to unpack her things. It had been sort of a routine, enter the classroom, smile at the Professor, talk to friends (if there were any in at the moment), unpack. It was quite a boring one at that.

Talia walked into the classroom, expecting the usual desks to sit in, but found a rather large round table, with a ton of chairs. She shrugged, and nodded a quick hello to the Professor. She smiled upon seeing Ash, and took a seat nect to her, "Hope this seat isn't taken." She said, but began to unpack the things she would need for this class anyways. She enjoyed Runes quite a lot, she just wasn't school material, and always had a hard time grasping things.

Jack made his way to the Ancient Runes classroom. Pulling open the door he walked in to find that two students were there already. Walking over to the round table he set his bag down and took a seat next to Talia. "Hi, guys whats up," he said looking over at the two girls that were already there. Last terms class had been a rather small one with just him and Talia in it so he was happy to see at least one more student. This made for better learning and interaction.

Ash shook her head, happy to see Talia here. "This class isn't supposed to be that big, I heard." she said and glanced over to see Jack. She nodded to him as he greeted them, "Although somehow I expected you two to be here, I wonder if Pat signed up too..." she said blankly.
She seemed to talk to Talia, Lauren, Pat and Jack the most in her classes, it was weird not to see them in even one.

Professor Mason left the students to their chatting, seeing class had not yet started. He was looking for the note telling him about the new student. It's good that she hadn't missed a lot of class.
"Hello class," he said to the class. "And Miss Xin, welcome to join Ancient Runes. Since we have a new student with us today, Miss Saphire and Mr Roarbitz, why don't you give us a brief summary of what happened last class?"

Ash nodded, blushing, she hated being introduced as the 'new student' or the 'new kid'. When she was younger, when she and her mother had moved to Amherst, she was the 'new student', she had to introduce herself and everything. It was so embarrassing. She understood that what Mason was doing was hardly like what she had to do in second grade but it just reminded her of that time.
Ash glanced at Talia and Jack, she had read up on Ancient Runes before coming to the class although it wouldn't hurt to hear from them.

Talia jumped at being able to tell another student, but also her best friend about what she had learnt in her previous Runes class. She usually didn't remember things, but she was glad she did... She needed to prove that Hufflepuffs could be just as quick witted, as even the Ravenclaws. She turned to Ash, "Mayans and their runes... and I think logograms and syllabograms." She said, ending it with a smile. Quite proud of herself for being able to answer... probably correctly.

"Ya that's about it." Jack said nodding to Talia before continuing on, "We learned that in the Mayan Civilization they used logograms to indicate complete words and syllabograms to represent individual syllables. And that they also used glyphs for places and names of gods." He had the exact numbers that the professor had given them but thought that it wasn't that necessary to include them and if she needed them then the professor would just repeat it or she could get them from Talia or him later.
Then glancing through his notes he saw that they had also covered the number system and calculations. "Oh and we also learned about the Mayan number system and it's digits. That it operates off of base twenty instead of base ten. Then we looked over a chart and saw an example. That's basically it if I can remember right." he said consulting his notes again to see if he had left anything out.

"Excellent, glad to know that you guys do study after class," Professor was indeed very pleased. It's good to know that the students were too making an effort. "3 points to Miss Saphire, 5 points to Mr Roarbitz." "Today we are going to tackle a more difficult part of the Mayan runes," he continued. "We are going to look at the alphabets. The most confusing part of it is that many syllables can be represented by more than one symbol, depending on the meaning of the word." "For example, just the letter A alone has at least 4 different symbols," he finished and started drawing with a piece of chalk. (Feel free to ask anything)

Ash's eyes widened, wondering whether they were supposed to learn how to write in Mayan Alphebet. She stared at the letters, with a horrified expression. Her head hung over, eh, maybe she should have stuck to divination-- this seemed a lot more complicated and they were only a few minutes into the lesson. Whatever, she still had to keep head strong and try!
Ash took out her notebook and jotted down notes about the alphebet and attempted to draw to four symbols representing 'A' but they looked more like blobs than symbols.

Jack smiled at the fact that he had just gotten five points for Ravenclaw. He had really studied his stuff outside of class and was really starting to enjoy the Ancient Runes lessons. He found it interesting how different civilizations did things in different ways. Though they still had some of the basic things like an alphabet and a numbering system, but they were drastically different from the one that was used today.
He jotted down all of the different symbols that could represent the letter 'A'. Trying to make his drawings match as closely as possible to the ones on the board so that he could identify them later and they wouldn't just look like unidentifiable shape that all looked the same.

The man smiled a little bit. Interesting as it was, all those symbols weren't exactly the easiest thing to understand. "Each Mayans sign represents a full syllable, and writer can use many different signs to represent one single sound," he said. "For example, there are at least 5 different signs that could be chosen to represent the Maya syllable ba." "But we obviously are not going to study each and every one of them," he continued before the students expressed their concerns. "We are going to try to find the runes for a couple of words instead." "For example, my last name, Mason," he turned towards the board and picked up a piece of chalk. "would look something like this." (I made it to the best of my ability...if there's a true Mayan Runes Master out there and happens to see this, please don't get too mad about it.)

Jack was all set to learn about all the different kinds of symbols that the Mayan’s used in their alphabet and word pronunciation, but understood why they couldn’t. He knew that it would be impossible to learn all of them in one year and even doubted that you could learn them all in two years. But he still thought that it would be interesting to see all of the different symbols that they could have come up with, even though he thought that it was a bit weird that they had five different ones that could all mean the same thing. They must be used in different places and abide by different rules. Like one follows a vowel or a certain consonant or something... he thought to himself remembering some of what he had once read in a book about different languages and what basic rules they follow.
Watching as the Professor put his lasts name up on the board in Mayan Jack wondered if they were going to get a chance to turn their names into Mayan using the Mayan alphabet. He thought that it would probably be quite hard to turn his last name into Mayan, since it wasn’t really that common and it was quite long. He was just ready to give anything that the Professor decided to throw at them a shot and thought that it would be pretty fun to translate any word into Mayan, no matter what it was. In the mean time he just copied down the symbols and wrote 'Mason' out to the side of them.

She squeezed her hands into fists, this was definately going to be a hard class to pass. Ash tried to write every word that came from Mason's mouth but got stuck since he was speaking too fast (no, Ash just writes slow). She cursed, this wasn't making sense to her but she couldn't ask a question, she wasn't sure what she didn't understand- it was more like all of it.
Ash glanced over to Jack, but leaned back with self control. Copying other people's notes is bad Ash! Bad! DON"T DO IT! She growled at her conscience-- it got in the way of things sometimes.
