... was all that she asked for.
Shay rubbed her hands to comfort her nerves. She stood pacing and staring at Headmistress Ticloon's gargoyle. The moment would have to end, but she was aware that was the first time she had ever spoken to any headmistress/headmaster. Well, in terms of a personal favor.
As the moment was near its end, the Gryffindor girl swore she heard something, perhaps from the inside, or from the outside. She instantly took a step back. Whether it was to make room for the entrance, or to make an escape was only known to her.

Deep blue eyes squinted to make out the figure in the distance. Bah. Who was bothering her now? Didn't they know that she was a busy woman. With students to corrupt and Muggles to torture? Things to destroy. Sheesh!
Shay was actually forced to wait quite a bit before the Headmistress appeared. She had... business to attend to. Fiona's short heels clicked away on the stone floor, its echos reaching the Gryffindor's ears before they were within talking range. "Is there something I may help you with, Miss Loire?" Fiona was finally able to ask, a smile claiming her features.

It was an instant realization the minute her surname was announced. Shay would actually have to go through with this. However, she needed just one word to help her through with it. Flat. Remembering the need for it, she nodded to herself and to the headmistress. "Yes, headmistress," She said politely. "I was hoping to ask you for permission of something. And if possible-- maybe even a favor."

"A favor? Do enlighten me?" the Headmistress nodded to the girl, singaling her that it was alright to move forward with her request. Bending forward to whisper the needed password to the gargoyle that kept intruders out, Fiona waved out her arm as invitation to go venture inside. There wasn't a thing that needed hiding on that day.

Shay gladly went in and her eyes discovered the interior of the office. Taking in another room she had never been to before, she stood standing and looked on at the headmistress.
"I'll get to the point, then," Shay said, knowing that it wouldn't hurt if she was frank. "I want to look for a job. Nothing too far, maybe just in Hogsmeade. I-I need earn some money before I graduate."

Fiona stopped when she realized her student hadn't followed her all the way to her desk and she scrutinized the girl's face. "It's a very dangerous time we are all in." she folded her slender arms across her chest. "It wouldn't be very safe to walk from here to Hogsmeade on the weekends." she stated.

"Oh!" Shay outbursted, trying hard in her mind to find other solutions. The obvious came up. "I can always try portkeys. I don't mind them, really. And I'm studying apparation, so transportation won't always be a problem." She tried to find other alternatives, but the ideas ran dry. "I assure you that I'm a very safe person," she said but almost added "unfortunately".

"School work?" Fiona prompted the young girl. "I know most of our professors give a heavy load on the weekends, especially at your level of study. How many hours would you plan on working? And where?" she shot question after question. While Shay had ambition and apparently needed or wanted the money, she needed to focus more on school.

"My grades are holding up, so I doubt I'll have much to worry on that," Shay responded, thinking sort of the same thing as the headmistress. They weren't perfect, but it wasn't as if she were striving to be an auror.
"I want to work part-time on weekends and weeknights," Shay said automatically, as she had prepared for the questions because it seemed to turn into an interview. "I'll be willing to work anywhere within transportation reason. So if a job is available here-- obviously not teaching-- then I'll take it." She stopped herself from going further.

Holding up indeed. Fiona made a mall mental note to review the girl's grades and records, although she already knew what sort of grades her students sported. That many days as a starting point was too much. "You may start out working the weekend nights as long as you keep up with all of your homework and none of it is late. School must be your first priority." Ticloon claimed.
The only jobs within a reasonable range were the ones within Hogsmeade. Fiona herself would check them out. "I'll see what we have here in the castle for you to do, as I'm sure there is something around that needs cleaning. But it will be up to you if you wish to work here or in Hogsmeade." Fiona offered. She'd have to work out the safety precautions, but that wouldn't be too difficult.
"If you give me a few days I can give you a final answer. If you don't mind my asking, what do you wish to save money up for?" the woman asked, titling her head to the side in curiousity.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Shay said as if she already receieved a job. She knew that wasn't ture, but she had a certainty that she was going to get the permission. She told herself to rememebr to start scouting for some jobs in town.
In light of the reason, she had also prepared for the question. "You see, I don't think I'll be able to return to my hometown in Mexico after graduation. I've got a few domestic problems that I would rather not return to. So, I want to take the initiative to set my life up in the UK instead." She rubbed her hands nervously, her stomach knotting at just the mere thought of her dysfunctional family.

Fiona's face was set into a deep frown, sincerely sorry for the young girl. "That's terrible. Where will you go over the summer, then, if you don't wish to return after your graduate?" the woman asked.

"That," Shay started, wagging her finger with some form of uncertainty, "Is something I hope to find out before my graduation. I'm not sure what to do. I have no family in Europe, so I can't quite just stay anywhere. I might have to spend my summer looking for a place."

That wasn't exactly what Fiona had meant to ask, but the answer would have been mostly the same. "So you're going to spend this summer doing nothing but looking for a place to stay after you graduate with money you are going to start earning now?" the Headmistress pressed. "Where would you stay at nights? Muggle hotels can be quite expensive and wizard inns expensive enough." she stated.

Hmm. She had a point there. "I guess you're right. But then again, I don't know how to do these things. I've never even had a job," she admitted, feeling incredibly naive for thinking far too ahead. "Do you know how I can do this?"
