I can't believe I missed the train! The small girl sadly, and angrily thought as the carriage she was in finally reached the steps to Hogwarts, the girl's eyes still wide with its outward impression.
Heaving one of the massive doors open she pulled both herself and her trunk inside (with some effort on the trunk) and looked around. Her eyes, getting that wide 'oh-my-gosh' look in them once more.
Only one word escaped her lips as she glanced from floor to ceiling, door to door. "Wow..."

The young and easily excitable Jason "Jase" Payne had been wandering the halls of Hogwarts in search of this mysterious main staircase that Drew had mentioned to him, boogie board hanging from his back like one would wear a shield and anxiously avoiding professors.
It had to be around here somewhere...
Just then, however, his gaze locked onto a girl just entering the great hall (his current location) ogling at everything around her. His chipmunk cheeks broke away before a massive grin as he waved to her; being his usual over-enthusiastic self.
"'Hello there!" He yelled in the distance between them, waving like a maniac.

She was shaken back to reality by the sudden voice. Her eyes skimmed over him in the first pass and that left her bewildered as to just whom had spoken. When she rescanned the hall however she found him (which was like finding a needle against a stone wall) and managed a small timid smile, and a giggle.
The boy looked like a loon, his arm more flailing than waving. With small amount of effort she moved her trunk from the doorway and sat on it, all the while watching the boy of her age.

Boogie-board slapping against his back, Jase trotted down the hall toward the girl, as giddy and excited as he usually was, but with a slight timidness as well. She looked more his age, yes, but that did not mean she was, and he had faced off to enough girls in Ravenclaw to know that they were creatures best approached with caution.
"Hello!" He created again, only not as loud as he came up to her, skidding to a halt and bouncing on the balls of his feet. "I'm Jase, you new here?" He said, glancing down at the trunk, before looking back up at her, a wide grin taking up most of his lower face.

"New enough, I guess...I've only been in here maybe a minute." She replied with a soft smile. He was definitely the most eager, yet at the same time cautious boy she'd ever seen. And that was saying something given some of the boys in her neighborhood.
She tilted her head at the object over his back, Lianna wasn't much of a beach goer, she could swim yes, but that didn't mean she did it often enough to remember the names of such objects. She did, however recognize it.
"Lianna Ma-...Lianna." She said in introduction, gingerly offering he hand toward him. She was sued to introducing herself formally, not casually, and therefore her full name was not necessary int his encounter, and hopefully here never would be necessary.

An outstretched hand? He looked down at it, then back at her, then down at the hand again. This chap had been out less than even he had, and that was saying something indeed, as his mother had shrouded him in his manor. "It's too dangerous out there with all those hooligans and gangs running about, Jason. I wouldn't want my little boy getting mixed up in that nonsense," she would coo to him and pat his cheek. Talk about gross.
Finally, he reached out quizzically and shook her hand, seemingly amused.
"Err-- nice to meet you Lianna." His attention span only allowed his wonder a few minutes however, for then the bouncy grin was back. "Are you a first year? I am. Not many around here.... Are you a Ravenclaw or a different house? I've heard Slytherin is the worse... but some say it's better than Hufflepuff... or so my pap likes to say."

He seemed hesitant, but had eventually shook her hand, and hesitant or not he seemed nice enough, though, deception could lurk behind ANY sweet face.
However, once he started talking, he kept talking. And thus she responded in order to what he asked, or presumed he asked.
"Yes I'm a first year, Hufflepuff, so, it looks like we'll be in classes together, unless you planon leaving me there to stare at walls..."

And so the confusion began once again. Girls. Seriously. Though he could slap himself now for making that Hufflepuff comment. But some say it's better than Hufflepuff... great show, Jase. Just make fun of her house like that. Worse that Slytherin. Just a classic charmer, yep, that defiantly explained Jason Payne. As if.
"Oh, well... I'm sure it's a great house despite what my pap says... he's old anyhow. Erm," he struggled for more words, but none came. Unless he replied to her walls comment, which confused him in the first place. "Um... I don't know where your common room is or anything. You might have to ask the walls instead of stare at them."
He rubbed the back of his neck. That had come out wrong. Ask the walls!? He had meant ask the portraits... oh, yes, very charming Jase.

"Oh don't worry about, really I don't bother to pay attention to what house is 'better'. You can have friends from everywhere you know." She countered, her tone far from the anger one would have expected. It remained the same, containing just as much, if not more sincereity.
"My parents didn't tell me much before coming here as to what it was like. I suppose, it hurt too much to think about it. Do you suppose the stories are true?" She questioned curious as to his response.

Seanna was on her way out to the grounds, particularly the forbidden forest, when she spotted what looked like two first years and one of them, a new Hufflepuff. "Hey!, How's it going?, did you just arrive here? Seanna asked the new girl, as she approached the two first years.

"I'm not really sure," he replied, relieved that Lianna had covered his blunder on her own. Of course, there were rumors of stuff like that about the castle. "Though I think the suits of armor move, and I swear I heard a door laugh at me once, and I nearly fell through a staircase with a missing step...."
He was going to retell that adventure, but then an older girl walked up to them, cutting in before Jase had time to say anything more. So, he simply closed his rather talkative and large mouth and swallowed the retort he wanted to give the newcomer, especially at seeing the Prefect's badge.

"M-missing step?" She questioned almost in disbelief. If there was a misisng step, how big was the step and could she make the jump? That was the real uestions that needed answering. Still, this whole 'missing step' business had her curiosity peaked and once that happened, there was no turning back.
She didn't give the older girl much of a glance, her words falling on more or less deaf ears. Or at least, the radar was tuned to one voice frequency.

"Missing step?" Seanna piped up, hearing something about the missing step. "It becomes easier to miss after you've been here awhile and it's even easier if someone told you where it was in the first place" Seanna said this last bit sarcastically, she herself didn't get told and had been stuck for awhile in the missing step.

Opening his mouth again, Jase was about to try once again to relate the experience when he was interrupted yet again by the older girl, and though he reddened in the face, he continued to hold his tongue.
"Kinda hard to know where they'll be though. The stairs like to move around. No amount of years will cause you to remember. You just have to look." He replied, speaking more so to Lianna.
"The portraits don't help, either, they snicker at you in their frames."

"Snicker at me and they'll find themselves with some new paint in them..." She replied with a half innocent look on her face. She would commandeer something, from somewhere. This was a school after all, it HAD to have paint somewhere!
At the older girl's piping up prior however she merely blinked. "I didn't follow a word of that....not a word." She claimed with a small sheepish grin. It just didn't make sense. Logic wasn't the best thing she followed, she was a common-sense girl.
