Nic looked at Ari. Then he looked at Charlie and smiled evially. "Sorry Charlie, but I think Ari can take you. She's on my team." Nic laughed and caught Drew's expression. He was almost sure that Ari couldn't play a lick, but that didn't matter. He just wanted to play the game. All she had to do was pass him the rock. "Come on Drew. She just called you a female. You gonna let her talk to you like that. He's not ready we'll definitely win. Drew's thinking about the dragon and Charlie can't shoot!"

Arianna shook her head at Nic's jibes.
"You think that's why they stick to beating bludgers?" she asked, throwing in some of her own as she waved at him to toss the ball her way.

Drew wasn't usually one to be taken in by goading (even the dragon comment didn't phaze him), but when Ari started in on the smack-talking, he raised an eyebrow out her. "You really wanna go there little girl?" he asked. "Because you'll get a taste of what those bludgers feel like when we beat your butts."

"Ha!" Arianna snorted, a smirk spread across her lips. "Those bludgers feel more like pillows with you behind the bat."
Of course, she had never been hit by one of Drew's bludgers. Nor did she really want to.

"You seriously want to go there?" Drew asked again looking at her steadily. Smack talking from anyone else was no big deal and he could take it without blinking an eye, but coming from Ari, it really hurt and he didn't know why.

"Don't I always?" Arianna asked, notrealizing there was more to his gaze than she thought. Hey, they were just playing, right? He was supposed to be throwing it back at her.
"But that's nothing compared to Charlie's," she claimed, motioning to the other girl. "You would have thought she dropping flowers on you."

Charlie widened her eyes and couldn't help but laugh. Arianna seemed to have a hidden talent when it came to smack talking. She was almost speechless, but she came out with, "Wouldn't wanna know how you'd handle a bludger, then. Much less a basketball. I gotta two year old cousin back in Albany, and she'd probably beat you back to Thanksgivin'." (Wow, that a horrible comeback from me. )

Nic shook his head laughing. "Yeah let's get this game going. Yall are going doooooown!" Nic pushed his hands down to the ground. "Drewena and Charlana are about to get beat by Thee Three. A-r-i and N-i-c! Thee three!" Nic groaned. The name for the team was lame especially when he explained it like that.

"Ah, pathetic!" Arianna hollared at her teammate, her head shaking furiously. "If you're going to be on my team, you have got to be able to come up with something better than that. We are Nicari."
Okay, it wasn't much better, but it was further up the scale of decent names than Thee Three.

Nic shook his head in agreement. "I like that Nicari! I might name my little girl that and my son Nicolae Jr." Nic was dead serious. "Alright Nicari can't be beat! Come on ball up." Nic got into stance ready to guard Drew. "Make it take it?"

"Or you could just stick with 'Losers'," Drew answered back, stealing the ball and shooting it at the basket. When it went through, he retrieved it and made a sharp pass at Ari. "Standard half court rules. Losers take out."

Nic nodded. "Alright yall get ball first then. Must take the ball back if it hits the rim and every other." Nic was speaking out more to make sure they agreed on the same rules. "Those are the standard rules? Or do yall play differently." Nic intercepted the pass to Ari and made a layup. He picked up the bouncing ball and passed it to Drew so they could get the game started.

Arianna shook her head. She had been hoping to try a warm-up shot before they started, but Nic wasn't going to let her. Ah, well, at least they were letting her play. Even if she wasn't quite sure what they were talking about. Arianna was sure she got the gist of it, though.

"Awesome, let's get this goin'," Charlie said, her stance ready and willing for whatever play Drew and her would make up. She gave a sharp, warrior-like glance to Nic and then to Arianna, and gave them an almost patronizing look. It was how she played, and all she needed was the paint on her eyes.

"Out past the key if you get the rebound off of the other team," Drew answered, deciding that arguing who were the losers taking the first out would just waste time. He dribbled the ball out to the half-court point and shot a sharp pass to Charlie.
