"Take me in and then you push me out. Fall all over yourself tonight. And just don't let it go, without a fight. Take me in and then you push me out. Fall all over yourself tonight. And just don't let it go, let it go."Matty's words were soft, though rather bouncy for the volume. The song that those lyrics of which tumbled from her mouth were that of The Kooks, Pull me in. It was probably one of her all time favorite bands, and hand in hand, one of her favorite songs, too. She loved the way that the guitar could strike you so repeatedly, or sooth you with it's strums. The way that the singer could fold into deep folds of tones, or break into a series of harsh rawer notes. And their pieces of music, as a whole, were a work of art. They ranged in so many different emotions, themes, chores and styles, all of which the teenager adored. Her singing do them the justice that they deserved, though. Hey, Matilda wasn't a bad singer, but she in no way could replicate the way that Luke Pritchard (the leader singer) sung. Anyway, she was just singing absently to herself, as the girl walked across the sun-lit grounds to wards the Great Lake. The teen walked with an springy step, as her black leather thongs stepped in the green grass that March brought with summer. The Hufflepuff couldn't remember the last time she had been swimming in the lake. She could remember the last time she went swimming, though, for it held fond memories in her mind. Matty had met up with Emeric one night, and they had gone for a swim at a beach the Room of Requirement had cooked up. The water had been perfect there, the night even, had been something described as perfect too. Em... now that she thought of him, the girl automatically felt a wave of butterflies tip in her stomach, and as a reaction, she smiled to herself as well. There was a nagging at the back of her mind, though. Matilda still needed to tell Tianne, her best friend, about her new boyfriend. The couple of agreed on telling each of their best friends, and it had been a few days since then, and the teen was yet to find an opportunity to tell the Ravenclaw. They had both been so busy, especially of late, with homework, career study and quidditch. This afternoon, though, Matty had planned pulling her friend aside and explaining things to her. But she hadn't been to find her at breakfast, and during classes, even lunch, wasn't the right time. The Hufflepuff had even checked the Library, kitchens, great hall and court yard, but she was unsuccessful in her search. So instead, the girl gave up, and decided to take a swim at the lake, for the first time in a good few months. Spring had brought much warmth, well, more so than winter, and now that the lake had melted, there wasn't a good reason not to go swimming. Matilda reached the banks of the lake, her green eyes looking over it's Mediterranean blue waters. She kicked off her shoes, dumping her black towel which had red squiggly lines across it, and proceeded to dip her toes into the water. The water wasn't warm, but nor was it freezing. It wasn't perfect, though, rather a little on the colder side, but it was certainly bearable. Glancing around, and finding no one near by, Matty peeled off her clothes, and pulled her hair out of the messy bun it had been in. She chucked her brown shorts, white shirt and cream vest into a pile. She now wore a salmon bikini, which had pale flowers sketched across it. It suited her ever-tan skin, and wasn't too reveling either way. On her right foot was a green hemp anklet, which had three tan Indian beads on it, something herself and Tianne both had, though the colors were different. The girl also had a series of beachy bracelets, which consisted of a shell one, a couple of stringy ones, and a shell and hemp braided one. After stepping in a couple of steps, before diving right into the depths of the Lake. She felt the cold surge of water engulf her body, and kicked deeper, before rising to the surface. Matilda ducked her head under again, wiping the strands of hair from her face, then again, she resurfaced. A quirky smile appeared on her face, as the girl let her body float up onto surface, her tummy and legs visible a few inches under the water. The girl let her head lull back slightly, her eyes looking at the blue sky which reflected on the lake's water, and the glare the sun made from behind her. [Teeeeee!]

Unlike her friend Matty, Tianne didn't have the singing ability. She could hold a tune, but she was hardly a great singer. She had tried, her mother loved singing, and always urged the girl to love it too, but it was like fighting a battle that you'd already surrendered into. She didn't have the heart for singing, despite the 'encouragement'; the word her mother used to use, although it was obviously more like 'force'; but Tianne had her other ways of being creative. She was an excellent songwriter, but in the business, a songwriter without the singer forward slashed in front of it was pointless. Tianne liked to paint, but ever since Seth left, she had forgotten that little outlet she had, as drawing and painting were just a few of his hobbies. Tianne appreciated music as much as the next person, but she listened more to the lyrics, not to what they sounded like, or whether their guitar was tuned.
Although it may seem contradictory, hypocritical or any other long word you want to come up with, the main outlet that Tianne used to express herself in a creative sort of way was guitar playing. It wasn't something she'd been doing for long, but she was a natural, and as sh obviously showed no passion for singing, Tianne's mom was more than ecstatic to teach her. Since then, it had joined in to the routine that she had going, after she got up, earlier than the other girls in her dorm, and most of the boys too, she'd find an empty common room, and to be honest, that worked an absolute treat. It had been a thing that Tianne needed to do, it was like breathing now. She loved it more than she had loved anything she'd tried previously, and she knew that it was something that she was going to keep with.
Slinging her guitar over her back, in an attempt to carry it down there, Tianne groaned. Corking her back as it hit it, Tianne let out a simple laugh, knowing that it was pretty stupid to have even tried doing it in the first place. She was quite intelligent, it was just the grace and common sense that she was slightly lacking. Two of the things that seem quite imprtant to the girl, were not working out in her favor. In a second attempt to sling it over her back, obviously not learning from her first attempt and failure, Tianne hit herself in the back, and once again laughed. She knew the saying third time lucky would come in handy when she tried again, so she slung the guitar, safely zipped up in it's new case over her back, this time, although slightly hurting as it collided with the back of her ribcage, managed to stay on comfortably, and Tianne slid the handle over her chest, from her right shoulder to her left hip.
She was wearing her swimming costume, although the girl was kind of reluctant to go in the water at this time, as Spring wasn't famous for it's weather, nor its incredibly warm water. At some times she felt the way her mother felt when it came to swimming, water was too wet, but at other times, she was quite the little mermaid. Walking down the staircases to the grounds, Tianne's features had a quite evident smile branded across them, even though she wasn't that happy. She wanted to play her guitar, and for the opportunity to do so, she wasn't happy, she was grateful. Tianne loved to smile, it was just something that was always apparent through her emotions.
Spotting her best friend, Matilda, as Tianne had chosen to call her, out in the water, Tianne immediately dropped to the ground, belly down. She was going to surprise her best mate, and by crawling over to the tree to hide behind, she had a plan. Leaving her guitar propped up against the tree, still being protected by its black case, Tianne stripped down to her bathers, leaving a pair of white shorts, blue converses, a Goyte tee-shirt and a black vest on the ground. Tianne snuck out to the rocks. Diving in neatly, to avoid Matty seeing or hearing her, and casting a bubble-head charm, Tianne swam up to her friend, a smile widening her face. Once she came closer to the girl, Tianne hoped that her friend had no idea, before grabbing her leg and pulling her under.
Resurfacing, spluttering like crazy, Tianne grinned goofily, hoping that her plan had worked.

The pulling of the leg defiantly wasn't expected.
Matty was jerked underwater totally unexpectedly, and therefore, she managed to inhale a whole load of water. She hadn't seen, heard anyone around, let alone felt them in the water. Merlin, the Hufflepuff thought it could have been the squid, for all she knew. She was only under for a moment, but the girl was released rather quickly, kicking her legs to the surface as quick as they would go. When she broke onto the surface, spluttering also, her ears picked up of the sound of another person coughing. Matilda blinked the water from her eyes, however there was no one she could see. The girl quickly turned on the... well, in the water, and the view of her best friend came to sight. A grin immediately took the place of the look of shock, and the fifth year laughed aloud.
"Holy crap, Tee. You scared the jama-lama's outta me." she said, clearing her throat again, finding now that most of the water had either been spat our, or swallowed. Gross, right? Yes, but she didn't care too much. Matty splashed a small wave of water at her friend, before swimming back a meter or so. "I thought you were the squid, dude." she said with a laugh playing in her tone. "Though, you may as well be." the teenager joked, a grin still evident on her face. She was glad that Tianne was around. Now, at least, this may give her a chance to tell her friend about the news that was tugging at her mind, and at her heart, too.

Tianne had really hoped that she had gotten the reaction that she had wanted so badly from her friend, she just hoped that Matty wasn't going to panic and lash out, maybe even get angry at the fifth year, as the tugging on her leg could have been anything, from the Giant Squid, to the Grindylows. Tianne really didn't want her friend to get angry at her now, not when she had the whole day, and a great mood to top it off. The water was slightly cold, but with the aid of a magical wand, Tianne could dry herself and warm herself any time she wanted, all she'd have to do was get out of the drink that seemed to be trying to drain her positivity.
"What can I say...? Seth and Ry would have been utterly proud of me." Tianne laughed.
Smiling at the girl, as she had to do a half spin in the water, Tianne realised that what she had done had been pretty immature, and could have very easily arisen anger. Still grinning mischievously, as the girl seemed to take no interest in creating an argument, Tianne noticed the girl swim backwards, as if she didn't feel safe near the girl. Tianne took it with a laugh, before ducking her head under the water to make sure she didn't get too cold. "I'm going to pretend you didn't say that." She laughed, wiping the lake water away from her eyes. "You got the day free, I'm guessing? People with heavy schedules don't tend to swim in the lake. They tend to, i dunno, carry out the tasks that need to be taken care of."

There was no way in the world that Matilda would have been able to get upset, angry or annoyed with Tianne for, literally, pulling her leg. She knew that by the amount of jokes and gags they had pulled on each other, a thing like this was to be laughed at, not scolded at. Of course, if it had of been some random guy doing the same thing, then sure, Matty would have probably freaked and flipped out a little. But then again, she didn't really think there were that many guys hanging around the lake, waiting for girls to dive in so that they could grab their ankles. So, the teenager accepted this in the manner that it was; a joke, allowing herself to laugh along with Tee.
Tianne's comment about Ryan and Seth made the Hufflepuff's smile falter, but only for a split second, so she highly doubted her friend would have noticed it at all, especially considering the two of them were still bobbling up and down in the water. Matty had almost half expected the two boys to come running out of now where, dressed in their boardies, and launching themselves into the lake with the girls. She missed that kind of ironic, spontaneous events the two brought to Hogwarts with them, but she knew better than to mention such things. "Thats right. Gang up on the youngest one, why don't cha." she teased, also ducking under, but more so to clear the irritating pieces of hair from her eyes. Once returning, she heard her friend's comment, and shrugged slightly with an innocent smile.
"You got the day free, I'm guessing? People with heavy schedules don't tend to swim in the lake. They tend to, i dunno, carry out the tasks that need to be taken care of."
Matilda's immediate thoughts were; she knew. She knew about Emeric, and about her friend keeping this whole thing a secret. It took a few moments for the girl to realize, and jump back from her conclusion. She probably didn't know, and the teen was just assuming the innocent to be guilty. For all she knew, Tee could be implying about Quidditch, or Homework even. As silence crept between them for a few good seconds, the girl made an effort to break this before it became too suspicious. "Classes were pretty straight forward today. I finished the literature assignment for Muggle Studies yesterday, so I've only got potions notes to review tonight. Though I do need to start the Charms work, considering its due next week." she played along, before taking this as her chance, while things were running down the line. "There is one thing I need to do. It concerns you, actually." she half mumbled. Straightforward, yes. But also necessary.

Although the writer currently felt like slapping Tianne, with whatever she could find near to her computer, Tianne's oblivion really could not be helped. Matty and Emeric were quite secretive, and Tianne wasn't the type to pry into personal lives. Sure, she would have liked to have been told, but they would have had their reasons not to tell her. But Tianne still didn't know that there was anything going on, and she was kinda glad about it. This would have simply confused her, even though she considered herself to be smart, and sometimes over-analyses situations.
Although Tianne never saw Matty's smile falter, she immediately regretted saying the boys' names. She was over it, but she wasn't sure if her best friend was, especially as she was close to both of them equally, and with the loss of two best friends, obviously the normal person wouldn't be able to cope. They weren't dead, as Tianne reminded herself, but they left quite a while ago now. Tianne just hoped she hadn't struck a nerve, as she was not good at picking up pieces, no sir-ee!
Smiling as Matty explained the list of things that she still had to do, Tianne felt kind of proud of herself. She had finished the charms, but that was the only thing she had over the girl. This was not easy however, considering she had stayed up until eleven the previous night making the final adjustments. Reminiscing over her assignment, Tianne's due happiness was short lived, as with the other task that had been needed to carry out, Tianne's involvement scared her slightly. "What's happened?" She asked nervously, a scared look upon her face. "You're not leaving too?"

Matty knew she just had to bite the issue, so that she could go on with spitting out the poison. This situation could either be handled delicately, or tackled head on. The first option had a few more cons, as opposed to the latter. For starters, if she handled this in a gentle way, somewhat like carrying a glass vase and placing it on an un-stable cabinet. If she wasn't careful, she may slip up, drop the vase, and create a mess. At least of she tackled this head-on, it worst of the pain would be through, and things could head onto getting back up and on track. She knew that Tianne suspected something, and her comment only confirmed this fact.
The teenager shook her head as soon as what her friend was thinking registered. Leaving now... well, that would be like her world collapsing. She had a whole life at Hogwarts. Her friends, her family (which were her friends), her studies, her interests, her passions... her boyfriend. And leaving would be life tearing apart her life, and having to settle for the worser of the sides. "No way am I leaving. I would rather spend my next years here living with the Giant Squid, as long as it meant I got to stay." she said honestly, swimming for wards and reaching out for her friends fore-arm.
The girl pulled Tee along with her, until they would both be able to stand on the pebbled of the lake. She knew she would need some ground under her, in fear that once this was over, hat it may disappear from underneath if she wasn't careful. Matilda took a deep breathe in. This was it; crunch time. "I've been seeing someone for the last four months." she said in a honest, confident tone. The Hufflepuff kept her eye contact with Tianne, the look in her eyes both apologetic, and honest. "I couldn't tell you, because we both made a promise it would be safer to see how things panned out... and it was only recently that we decided we could tell those who we trusted with this." Issue officially made public.

Ëven though she could see that Matty had something on her mind, something that she inevitably had to tell the older, yet smaller of the two, Tianne was really, quite incredibly happy, although that word made it seem less than it really was. There wasn't a word for her mood that could perfectly describe it, unless you count indescribable as a descriptive word. She was bubbly, excited and ecstatic, yet anxious, and somewhat hyper. It came along every once in a while, and usually Tianne liked it, but today it was proving to be somewhat difficult.
Confused, but happy all the same as the girl was pulled closer to the shore, Tianne felt grounded to be able to touch the pebbly softness on the bottom of the lake. Tianne's face was still branded with a smile from the last comment that Matty had made, Tianne's friendship felt validated by that, even though she knew that the reason she wanted to stay wasn't going to be just for her ravenclaw friend's sake, but Tianne was grateful all the same. Maybe it was because she was slightly scared that Matty would up and leave just like Seth and Ryan, maybe it was because she felt that Matty was directing it at her, Tianne didn't know.
Stepping back from her friend as the news was broken, all good feelings had seemed to had disappeared. She wasn't angry... Wait... Was Tianne angry? Or was she jealous, that her friend always got the guys? Was she angry that she wasn't told, that she wasn't trusted with this information? Tianne couldn't help but change her face from a smile to an expresionless, well, expression. "Emeric." She breathed, again stepping away from her friend. All that Tianne could think now was how happy she was to have ground under feet.

Matilda felt her insides burn, and crap up against each other. She could see by the reaction on her friends face, that this wasn't going to be any joy ride. Well... why should it be? In all honesty, the Hufflepuff knew she had lied. Tianne had asked her a couple of times, if she was interested in anyone. But Matty had simply shaken her head, or changed the subject. For four months, she had been lying, and going along like nothing had changed. But, Merlin, how they had. As much as she hated lying to her best friend, and not being able to tell her about the joy that was in her life, it had been just that. Emeric was... amazing. The way he made her feel, the way he treated her, the way it was; all, amazing. He had her so happy, and the teenager knew that had she told Tianne from the beginning, things might not have turned out that way. She didn't regret one moment of time with him, and nor would that change. He meant more to her than anyone knew, and no amount secrets would change that.
And it was now obviously evident, that Tianne knew exactly what she was talking about. Matilda felt her insides tense yet again, as the Raven backed off even more so. "Yes." she said softly, averting her eyes to the water, which was rippling with the drops of water that came off of her body. "I'm sorry, Tianne. But I..." she started, looking back up, and taking a breath to try and clam her nerves. "We couldn't tell anyone. If word got out and his parents found out... things... we... everything would have been ruined. I wanted to tell you..." the Hufflepuff sighed slightly, looking back down. "But I couldn't."

Tianne didn't mean to seem hateful, angry or even depressed about the incident that had just taken place, well, that had been happening for the last four months, as she had previously been told by the girl, but really, she couldn't help it. She was the type of person that was passionate about everything, good, bad, beautiful and ugly. Tianne didn't want to fight with the girl she happily called her best friend for ever and ever, but right now, she wasn't even sure whether she could honestly and truthfully call her that. Matty had lied to her, and that wasn't something that Tianne looked for in a best mate.
At the present time, Tianne wanted to just walk away, but she wanted to stay and hear the story. She knew that it would be a whole thing, with the 'I wanted to tell you', and the 'we just couldn't', but Tianne was just hoping that MAtty would come up with something different to say, and was pretty disappointed when she said exactly what Tianne had been predicting. She wanted to scream, but she wanted to laugh it off, but that was something that Tianne just couldn't do.
"So you started dating four months ago. If you really wanted to tell me, you would have told me. Who did you think that i was going to tell, Matty?"

The girl couldn't get angry or upset with Tianne in her right mind, even if the feeling was passionate on her friend's side. She had every right to be pissed off with her, and this was the exact reason that Matty didn't want Emeric to be around when she told Tee. The Hufflepuff knew the Ravenclaw like the back of her own hand, and she would either be yay or nay to this information. And as it seemed, she was upset about not being told, not so much the actual relationship. She understood that she probably felt un-trustworthy, and rather rotten about this, but Matilda was finding it hard to get out what she really wanted to say. What if this backfired somehow? She certainly wasn't ruling it out.
"I don't know. But I wasn't about to take that chance, if nothing ever even happened." she replied honestly. "And don't think I didn't want to tell you. I made a promise to him. We knew it was for the best to keep our lips sealed until things were safe." her comment was a little weak, but she wanted to get the fact that she couldn't, more so than wouldn't, have told her best friend.

Tianne wasn't sure whether her mood would upset the girl, in fact, Tianne really didn't want Matty to turn this around on her. It was a defense mechanism, to turn things around onto the person that is angry at you, but Tianne felt that she needed to get this over with, as sooner or later, she'd get angry anyways. She couldn't bottle it up, as then it would need to be unleashed, and that would just bring hell to Earth to whoever was involved with it. Tianne wasn't a person that you'd want to be involved in a fight with, as when she fought, she fought hard.
Trying to think everything through before she spoke again, Tianne still couldn't believe it. She wasn't angry that it was with Emeric, as Tianne had been trying to become friends with the boy, but she wished that she had been told. "You didn't have to tell me that you were dating. But don't you think that you could have told your best friend, the person that confides in you, and wants to you to the same, that you had an attraction or something? I had asked you before, were you interested, and you blatantly said no." She said, rather passionately, not being able to look the girl in the eye.

"Would you have honestly told me if you were going through the same thing?" there was a good chance she would have replied 'yes' to this question, but Matty was hoping that the girl would take it as a rhetorical one, and chose to leave it at that. She wanted the Eagle to see it through her own perspective. "I didn't even admit the fact that I liked liked him to myself for a long time." she said, her voice becoming more confident as she pursued to give her reasons in defense. "Heck, you're one of two that are finding out. Emeric didn't tell any of his friends, not even the ones he trusts just as much as I trust you. Tianne," the teenager took a step forward, bringing her eyes to where her friends would be if she were to look at her.
"His dad won't even approve if he finds out about us. Can't you see how complicated this already is? Let alone the fact that, if you haven't already noticed, I haven't got the best reputation for dating guys. I had to dump Jynx because I fell for Devon. I treated Devon like the re-bound guy. Leto and I crumbled. I didn't want to screw up with Emeric." she said firmly, feeling her heart rate rise as she talked now.

"Yes."
Tianne spoke clearly and blatantly. She remembered back to when she and Seth were still an item, and how she had been so excited just to tell Matty the situation. She wasn't happy about this, not at all, and she still couldn't understand why Matilda couldn't have told her. Tianne had asked the girl a few times over the last six or so months if she had felt anything towards anyone, and she recieved a denying answer. Although she had previously been worried that Matty would get upset with her, Tianne was now too angry to care.
"Oh yeah, you'd screw up your relationship by telling your best friend? I don't care that its with Emeric, and I don't care about your past, Matilda, if you actually want something to work, I don't think telling your friend would stop that from happening. I don't know, maybe this is part of your plan, you want me to get angry at you, but anything in this world that is worth anything is worth fighting for." Tianne said, stepping back as the younger of the two stepped closer. With a tear running down her cheek, Tianne sighed. "I don't know, Matty."

Matty had been wishing Tianne would hesitate in some way, if she were to answer 'yes' but that wasn't happening. The teenager sighed slightly, but then again, she knew she hadn't been expecting this to be easy. "Well at least I'm telling you now." she said, her words being softer than she had expected. The girl just wished that she could find better things to say than 'i wish' and 'i wanted to'. The girl let Tianne's words roll over her, and she gradually absorbed them. It pained her to see her best friend so let down by her own acts, so crest-fallen coming out of this situation on the bad end. Matty didn't want to get angry, but she knew that if she wanted to get her point through, coming off as weak and regretful wasn't the look she was aiming for.
"It may not have screwed up our relationship, but it sure as hell would have screwed up any trust I was forming with him. If you don't care about my past, then how would you're so concerned about sticking around in my future? And I don't even know where this wanting to get you angry came from. You and I both know just how much crap we've been through with Ryan and Seth leaving; so if this is something to do with Seth, don't take it out on me." Matilda continued to keep her eyes up, unwilling to lower her gaze, despite the fact that she felt like it. Heck, the girl felt like lowering her gaze, running from the water and finding a safe place to think this over. "Out of everyone, I thought at least you would understand what it feels like to have some happiness in your life, and wanting to keep it there, no mater what that takes."
