"Hmmm..." she hummed as she watched her own creation fail. Well, there always was the choice to recreate ruins. But, even in order to do that she had to be able to partially recreate the building it had been before. "Doesn't seem to be working..." she muttered to herself, glancing down the table at what was left of Jeremy's creation. There wasn't much and nothing she could figure out what he'd done that had made it all stand up.
Setting her plate aside, she grabbed another from the empty space beside her and grabbed a couple more slices of toast. Grabbing the butter, she lathered the sides and stood them up side by side, but that failed just as quickly as they fell forward toward her, then back as she tried to straighten it. "Nope, that's not working either."
Setting the toast wall down, she grabbed another slice to sit it perpendicular to the all ready created wall.

He watched her lack of progress through narrowed eyes, trying his best to pretend he didn't really care what she was doing. Her first attempt failed and then she did something totally stupid by using the butter. He couldn't help but snort at her efforts. When she muttered to herself about it not working, he answered with a low, "Duh..." Not only did she totally suck at building stuff, but she was wasting a whole lot of toast. At his house, the rule was you didn't waste food; if you touched it, you better plan on eating it.

Nope, that didn't work either. Prying the buttered toast apart, she added a tiny bit of orange marmalade and tried again. The wall sat up with the support of the perpendicular slice of toast, but it only lasted a little longer. Without thinking, Felicity tapped her head with the knife she'd used in the marmalade, and when she finally thought of another idea, her eyes widened again at what she'd just done with the knife.
Dropping it to the table she giggled and grabbed a napkin to wipe the mess from her strands.
"What do you think?" she turned to look at the blue-eyed boy. "A little more marmalade and it should work? I mean, it's just toast and jam...sort of, but I need another opinion."

What he thought was that she should leave him alone and find someone else to bother. She didn't even have enough sense to keep marmalade out of her hair. He hadn't done something that stupid since... okay, he had gotten jam in his ear just a couple of days ago, but that wasn't the same of course.
He glared at her, knowing she was trying to trick him into letting his guard down. Once he did that, she'd probably throw more stuff at him and then he'd have toast and jam in his hair as well.
"Helps if you score it," he grumbled, frowning down towards the opposite end of the table so he wouldn't have to look at her.

Ignoring the younger Thornton relative's looks, Felicity kept her eyes on the building she was trying to create, but she really wished Jeremy would help her a bit. Felicity was pretty good at building things, but creating a building from toast wasn't something she'd ever tried before, and using jam and marmalade...she didn't mind so much.
When she heard Jeremy's a voice, Felicity tried to hide the ever-growing smile from him. He didn't really remind her of a smiling type of person.
"How so?" Maybe if he was willing to help her, she could help him make what he'd been doing before. "I'm used to making card houses, but I haven't ever made a house out of toast before. Have you ever made a card house?" Genuine interest, how more honest could she be?

Jeremy gave a frustrated huff and having to deal with such a dumb girl. First of all, she thought card houses were something to be taken seriously, and then she didn't even know what scoring was. He snatched a slice of toast and grabbed a knife, grumbling to himself as he scraped the blade across the edge of the bread. After a few passes, the toasted crust was crumbly enough to hold the make-shift mortar better and after doing the same to another slice, he joined them at a right angle with some marmalade. Forgetting for a moment that he was frustrated with the girl across from him, he took another slice of toast and started working on another wall.
"I think I might need some inner walls to keep it sturdy," he said, talking mostly to himself, but eying the girl to see if she thought it was a good idea too.

Keeping her grin hidden, Felicity was glad he was helping her. Even if he hadn't wanted anything to do with her, he was now showing her how to properly make a toast house. There wasn't much about Jeremy she knew, and she wanted to get to know him better, but she also knew she'd likely make a lot of mistakes with him in the process. The kid worked so hard keeping others away, she wasn't sure if it was what he really wanted or he just did that to see who would try to get to know him. Overall, she rather liked him.
Leaning in some so she could hear, she nodded her head, hoping that was the right answer for him. "Do you want me to do something?" she asked, thinking she could probably do a few more slices of toast with what he'd just done. Of course, if he instructed her she could do what he needed her to do as well. "I could score a few more slices if you'd like, or whatever you need."

What he wanted her to do was to go far away and leave him alone, but he seriously doubted that was going to happen. And if it did, she would probably only start throwing stuff at him again. He considered just ignoring her, but then he knew she'd keep bugging him anyway.
"Fine," he growled back as he pulled the plate of toast closer so she could reach it better. He grabbed a couple of different jams, wondering if a mixture would make a better mortar between the walls.

Felicity couldn't help the glimmer of a smile that touched her face when Jeremy finally gave into her, and quickly turned her head the opposite direction so he hopefully wouldn't see it. As she sat there, playing with the toast to help re-build the structure, she couldn't help but recognize the subtle ways Jeremy reminded her of Drew. The determination, the grumpiness when something hadn't gone exactly the way that had been planned (when it came to something he found really important...a project of sorts), the blue eyes.
The only thing that really bothered her in the serene setting of the moment was the silence.
"Jeremy, do you like living in the UK? she asked, hoping to prod a bit of conversation. She knew he'd lived in California once, but didn't know exactly when his family had decided to move and was very curious.

It was an odd question and definitely one that he hadn't expected, not at that moment, in the middle of building a house of toast, and definitely not from her, the thrower of rocks and bits of food.
He shrugged back, pretending that he really didn't care one way or another. Truth was, he hated it there. Granted, he didn't care much for being at home and maybe Hogwarts was better than Muggle school, but he definitely couldn't say he liked living in the UK.
"You done with those slices yet?" he asked, thinking that maybe he could get some windows cut out in them before attaching the pieces to his structure. And with any luck, Rock-girl would find something else to talk about.
