It had been a long night for Ms.Morine. Apparently patrolling the castle and making sure all the Prefects stayed on tasked proved harder than she had previously thought. The young girl had been in her dorm, simply sitting on her bed because she couldn't remember the last time that simply sitting had felt so great. She had planned on taking her broom out for some fun but she was way too tired for that today. So instead, she had decided to stay in some comfy pajamas and wait for her body to wake up before heading down to the Great Hall for some breakfast and see if she had any mail. Once she got her lazy but up and out of bed and into the Great Hall, she had attracted a lot of attention, but today was just one of those days where comfort was more important than trying to be an example for everybody. Delilah sat down at a vacant spot, not near anyone in particular and began scooping scrambled eggs onto her plate, and sipped at the goblet before her that had filled with milk. She was in a generally good mood, and although many things had been on her mind, primarily her father's health, she tried to be friendly to those who passed and said hello, and hoped that today would be the relaxing day she was hoping for. Alas that time of day was happening again, the owls were delivering the mail. It was rare that Delilah ever got anything, unless it was from her dad of course, or perhaps Drew had written her something like he said he would. She watched the owls carefully and thought that maybe today she would actually get something. Suddenly, a speckled brown and black owl dropped a small letter in front of her, which had her mother's handwritting on the envelope. Now Delilah was really wondering what was going on, her mother never really wrote to her, at all. Delilah carefully picked up the letter and tore it open, and pulled out a letter. Dearest Delilah,
I know last time I sent anything to you, it was because your father had suffered from a heart attack and and slipped into a coma. I know how much he means to you Delilah, and I don't know of any other way to put this so I'll put it simply. Your father passed away this morning, the coma got the best of him...Delilah couldn't bare to read another word. Surely this was a joke. The man that had ridden on broom sticks with her, and could still lift her up and twirl her around, surely that man wasn't... gone. Forever. The man who could still pick her up even just a few months ago, right before she hoped aboard the Hogwarts Express. Delilah gripped the letter tightly as tears pooled in her harsh green eyes. This really wasn't happening was it? He'd always told her how proud of her he was... and now, now he was gone. The small girl dropped the letter onto the table and set her head down on top of it. This couldn't be real. (open.)

It was just one of those days that felt like something going to happen. Connor rolled onto his side in his bed and looked at the wall, just staring at it for a while. He couldn't decide if the feeling would result in something bad or something good. Attempting to be optimistic he hoped for something good to happen today. He rolled out of bed with an ' oomph ' and straightened himself so he didn't land on the floor too harshly. He stood and dressed into black slacks and a button down white shirt, feeling like dressing up a bit today. He sat down on the edge of the bed and put on a pair of black socks, followed by black dress shoes. He inspected himself in front of a mirror as he put on a black colored belt and buckled it securely around his waist.
A quick stop to the bathroom to brush his teeth and Connor was ready for breakfast. He walked up the old castle stairs, waving and saying hullo's occasionally, not bothering to stop much for chit chat. He was hungry, and it took priority right now.
He slipped into the Great Hall and searched the Slytherin table for an open seat. After a second or so of looking he spotted a small figure off by herself and recognized it to be Delilah. Her head was down and the seventeen year old figured she might need some cheering up on this particular morning. " Delightful Delilah, my partner in crime, Head Girl that you areeeee... " He projected his voice in a sing-song manner once he was close enough to her, as he didn't really want to draw attention to her if she didn't want it.
He sat down next to the girl and turned his head to look at her, a small frown appearing on his lips. " Hey... what's up? "

Somewhere in the back of her mind Delilah thought she was hearing another voice other than her own. It sounded familiar but right now her head was pounding with her own thoughts, and also from an oncomming head ache. She let out a loud sigh, still unaware that someone very dear to her was approaching now. Delilah kept her head down and face hidden, she didn't even know what she was thinking now, all she knew was that she needed to go do something before she did something she wasn't proud of in public. She really wanted to yell, and quite frankly, that would have to be done outside if she planned on not drawing attention to herself. Her pajamas were probably already doing the trick.
The first step to anything like this was denial, and that's where Delilah was, not to mention the fact that she was very pissed off at her mother for being so incredibly blunt. This letter only reminded Delilah of how much she despised that woman, and how much more she'd miss her dad. Her dad...
Fixed on getting out of the castle, even if she was in pj's, she sat up straight, and was determined to keep a straight face as she looked around the great hall, looking for the nearest escape. Her eyes met a familiar pair of other eyes and she blinked a couple times, clasping her hands together and gripping them tightly, a nervous habit she had picked up from her mother. It took a while before Connor's words registered in Delilah's muddled brain. She wasn't really expecting him, it seemed that whenever she was in need of a friend they were no where to be found, or when they were, Delilah decided to keep her emotions bottled inside. Delilah continued to stare at her partner in crime, searching for something to say because she wasn't sure whether to tell him the truth, or just lie and say she was ok.
Even if she was a Slytherin, she was never a good liar, and under the circumstances, she couldn't hide what was going on either. She hadn't even told any of her friends that her dad had had a heart attack and had been in a coma. How was she supposed to tell them that he was suddenly dead now. Tears formed in the small girl's eyes until finally a couple had managed to escape. She wiped at them hatefully and looked to Connor with pain filled eyes, she just couldn't take it any more, she needed to let someone in. "Could we go outside?" She said finally, hoping that maybe Connor could read minds and would realize that once they were out there, she was screaming as loud, long, and as hard as she could. Then maybe she'd feel like talking.

Connor's lips tugged down gently into a frown, realizing that while he had assumed Delilah was in a poor mood he hadn't expected tears... He never knew what to do when girls cried. His instincts drug him in two directions, one saying he should bolt, and the other saying he should stick arond and comfort them.
In this case when he saw tears brimming and eventually falling from the green eyes of Delilah the latter instinct took hold and he immediately wanted to give her a hug. " Hey, it's all right. " He wasn't sure what to do, he never really was sure in these kinds of situations, but he felt bad. Whatever it was that was bringing his good friend to tears he wanted to put a stop to it, and if it was more guy drama that was bringing her down then he would have to do something about it... Connor was protective of his friends in general, and he preferred to take on the big brother mode whenever he saw them hurt.
" Yeah, outside sounds good, let's go. " He stood up, grabbing a couple pieces of toast as well as two bottles of water for the two of them to share if she felt like eating. He placed a free hand on D's shoulder, lightly squeezing it in what he hoped would be portrayed as a reassuring manner. " I like your outfit, by the way, " he mentioned, trying to lighten the mood for a couple seconds.

Delilah closed her eyes and breathed out a long sigh. She knew Connor wasn't sure what to do, it was written in his eyes, but she appreciated him trying, at least he was doing that. But the words he spoke weren't true to her, things weren't going to be ok, at least not any time soon. Delilah didn't even know if she should be talking to Connor, she didn't know a thing about his home life, and she'd hate to talk to someone who didn't even have a dad in their lives. At least she had one for some of her life. But then Connor said he could talk with her, for a moment she was expecting him to bolt, but apparently he did care. Delilah was more than happy to go outside. She hadn't gotten up yet, because she was gathering up the lovely letter her mother had sent to her, when Connor had placed a gentle hand on her shoulder, and this eased Delilah for a second. The small girl in pajamas got up slowly and sighed, looking down at herself after Connor had mentioned her outfit... Or rather, lack of one. A small grin had placed itself on her face, and she looked up at Connor with thankful eyes, "It's charming isn't it?" She asked, knowing that at this point, he was one of the few people that could make her smile, and she was suddenly very thankful for the friends she had. Delilah looked down at the letter in her hands, and her smile faded, tears forming in her eyes once more. She hated being so emotional, but she couldn't help it. She'd rather be emotional, that have a heart of ice. She loved that man, and now he was out of her life... Forever.

Well whatever the issue was, Connor planned on doing his best to make it better. Wasn't that what best friends were for? He assumed so. It had been a while since he had been called on to do a best friend like thing, but he thought that this would fall under that category.
' It's charming isn't it? ' He nodded his approval and agreed with a soft laugh, adding in, " Very much so. Makes me a little jealous that I decided to dress up, " He motioned down to his own apparel of nicely pressed clothing. " When I could have easily just stayed in my pajamas. What was I thinking... " He trailed off, glad to have put the smile on her face if only for a couple seconds. " Hey, c'mon, " he spoke softly as he noticed more tears appearing in the eyes of the girl. " Let's get some air. " He let his hand fall from her shoulder and tug gently on her arm to get her going. Staying inside would probably only make it worse.

Delilah really hadn't been looking at what Connor was wearing, but once he mentioned that he had dressed up, she decided to take a closer look. "Oh, but you look very... dashing like this." She said grinning, she had only hesitated because she wasn't sure what the appropriate word would be to say he looked nice, and not make him uncomfortable and still mean what she said.
The small girl was more than happy to follow Connor's lead as he tugged on her green sleeve. She placed one foot in front of the other and walked slowly, trying to focus on her every step, her every breath, anything she could to keep the thought of her dad's recent death out of her mind. Delilah looked up though, knowing that now was not the time to be clumsy, and she noticed that, well, others were noticing her and Connor. It was then she smiled broadly. She could only imagine what others were wondering what the Head Boy and Girl were up to today, one dressed for bed the other dressed for a date.
"Arn't we a site for sore eyes?" She said, turning her head to look at her partner in crime for a moment before she continued walking. Delilah was trying to make the mood a little lighter, at least for the time being. The snakess had long ago wiped the tears threatening to fall once more, and was now focused on making it to the Courtyard, and dodging any Professors. She didn't want to get more than one thing taken away today.

Okay, he could handle the emotional person next to him. He could handle anything... maybe. No, no, he could. He would have to.
Connor smiled at the sincerity of her words and nodding his gratitude, only saying, " Thanks D. " He looked back at her, walking along side her as she took the first few shaky steps. He wasn't paying much attention to the people around them now, he was focused on just getting himself and Delilah through the next few minutes or so, then he would be able to see what would happen. ' Aren't we a sight for sore eyes? ' A soft chuckle escaped him and he smiled down at his friend, once again finding her choice of outfit humorous. But next to him she looked more out of place, and he too looked out of place. Like he had missed the memo for a pajama party.
" Yes. Quite the pair we make. They must think all the snakes are off their rockers... " Connor continued his stride just as Delilah did, munching on a piece of toast that he had grabbed. " Want 'ome? " he spoke with his mouth full of bread, motioning a piece of toast at Delilah if she wanted it.

" Yes. Quite the pair we make. They must think all the snakes are off their rockers... "Deliah laughed softly and looked like herself for a moment, "Oh, but they'd be right in thinking so." Delilah smile and shook her head no when Connor asked if she wanted some toast, "That's alright you enjoy." She said, thinking that Connor was quite the goofball. The Head Girl continued to walk along, wondering exactly how sad she should be right now. Was it alright that she was smiling because of a friend? Or was she smiling just because she was happy to actually have a friend in such a dire time? She wasn't sure, but she couldn't help but feel happy either way. She supposed it was alright to feel happy about one thing, and angry slash sad slash depressed about her father's... passing...
It still really hadn't hit her, she could still see him clearly in her memory. She hadn't even been home when he had the heart attack, and she never got the chance to see him while he was in the hospital because of the coma he was in. They had spoken over that muggle contraption though, for the brief period that he had overcome his coma. The telephone, that was the thing, and he sounded just as normal as he always did. That was the last conversation Delilah had with him, he told her to not worry and to stay at school and do her very best, that he was proud of her and loved her, and she couldn't help but feel upset that she couldn't have seen him over the Christmas break. Now it was too late. Too late to ride brooms one last time with him, too late to play card games one more time, and he'd never get the chance to see her graduate, or ever married... some day...
Now Delilah wasn't happy about anything. Her dad was her best friend, someone who knew her inside and out and was always there for her. Delilah tried to push back the fond memories of him, but they were there, staring at her, haunting her. D and Connor were well out of the castle by now, Delilah suddenly had stopped talking while she thought of all these things.
Her fists were clenched into small balls at her side, and she walked fast as though on a mission. Perhaps a mission to forget her now recent past. Tears were streaming down her face but she didn't care who could see. Her eyes were ablaze with hatred, at what she wasn't sure. Life maybe. At the moment, she really just wanted to pummel something, or someone. It wasn't fair, she shouldn't have to spend her last year miserable because of her dad's passing. Not as though it was his fault, she knew he didn't ask for it, yet there was a part of her that was mad at him too. Delilah had forgotten Connor was even there, she was just a mix of emotions, and apparently filled with energy, so she kept on walking.

The Head Boy laughed, agreeing that if it came to what they were wearing then they would seem odd compared to one another. But it generally wasn't odd to see the two snakes around hanging out in the same group of people. They were friends and were in the same peer group generally, so them walking side by side in the Great Hall wasn't odd or out of place. Connor let a small silence fall between them, thinking that D wanted her space now, so he took to just taking in the outside grounds of the castle as they trekked down the stairs.
As they walked on the grass he continued to munch on his toast, his other hand in his pocket. Every once in a while he glanced over at Delilah, unsure if he should say anything. She wasn't talking, so he assumed it would be good of him to keep his trap shut for a while.
Connor's hazel eyes were trained on a passing group of students, lifting a hand in a casual wave. He finished his toast and brushed his hand off on his pants, dusting the crumbs away. As he turned back to look at Delilah he saw just an empty space. " D? " He cocked his head to the side, looking around for her. Connor noticed a figure speed walking in the direction away from him and instantly realized it was his friend. He increased his step size and caught up with her in a few strides.
" Hey, hey, you're leaving me in the dust here. " He joked with an uneasy smile. He wasn't even sure what was wrong, but there were tears cascading down Delilah's face and he wanted to know what was up.

Delilah's vision was a bit of a blur, she could only see the general shape of things she was walking at, so she could manage, but she really should have been wiping the tears away. Suddenly someone was talking to her, and she turned to look at them. It was Connor. Right, Connor was walking with her... or at least he was trying to. Delilah sniffed and brought a pajama sleeve up to her nose to wipe at it, "I'm sorry Connor..." She said, her face not really showing any emotion, she was trying to keep it inside.
The small girl looked around her surroundings, realizing that they were in a pretty busy area, with a lot of people staring. Delilah turned back around and kept walking, wanting to get to a more secluded spot before she bared her soul to a friend. She didn't want the whole school knowing her business. As her vision blurred again from another onslaught of tears, she began bumping into people, as she was unable to see clearly.
At last she arrived at what she thought would be a place she could just breathe, and maybe gather her thoughts, before Connor decided she was a complete lunatic. The small brunette had managed to find a place more or less like a rock garden, and she decided to sit atop a rather large rock. It was a bit of a climb, but she was more or less up for it, and she seemed to manage to get to the top with ease for someone so small, so she figured Connor would be able to do the same.
Delilah's legs finally buckled underneath her once she stood atop the rock, a bit out of breath. She sat in her oh-so familiar cross legged position and just closed her eyes, trying to hush out everything around her except the sound of the breeze, the cool breeze that was flowing through her hair. She was in her element, this bird was meant to fly, the outdoors was where she belonged, preferably on a broom. Delilah breathed in deeply and opened her eyes, wondering what happened to Connor.

He didn't know why she should be sorry to him. If anything he should be sorry to her... he was probably bugging her right now when she wanted some alone time to sit... and cry. The tears were what was getting him, he could deal with the occasional emotional girl if only they didn't cry. Any time he was a female cry he wanted to disappear into the background, which of course only led to guilt and a new onslaught of liquid emotion from the girl's eyes.
" Er, don't be sorry. If you want I can leave you alone for a while... " He paused then retraced his steps a bit just in case he had accidentally stuck his foot into his mouth a bit too much with that statement. " I mean I'll stick around. If you want me to. "
It didn't much matter to him either or, well that's not true, it did matter. He wanted to help and was seriously thinking of finding Cole and or Jason to kick some arse for his best friend. Jason might have been bigger than Connor, but he had a temper when he wanted to. Distracted by his thoughts he had lagged behind Delilah and sprinted over to catch up with her just as she sat atop a large rock. He stood staring up at her as he spoke. " Is this about Jason? Or Cole? 'Cause D, I swear if they've hurt you I'll beat them to a pulp. Honest. " He figured this might console her a bit, maybe make her laugh.

Delilah was glad Connor was still there, because she could hear him talking about Cole and Jason, yet where was Connor? She could swear she also heard him say something about leaving too.
Delilah stood up again and walked over to peer over the large bolder at Connor with a bit of worry in her eyes, "Please don't go, I'd really love it if you stuck around for a while longer... but if you have something else to do, I understand." She said. Although she could use a best friend right now, she also realized that the world didn't revolve around her, and she'd be more than willing to let her friend be if this was too much weight on their shoulders.
Delilah couldn't help but laugh when Connor told her that he'd beat up her crushes if she wanted him too, and some how, she just couldn't picture Connor taking on Jason, or Cole, despite the fact that he was younger. Besides, hadn't they been getting along great? Delilah assumed it was a big brother instinct kicking in on Connor's behalf, and honestly, she didn't mind. "Trust me, they're the furthest things on my mind." She said, standing there, her hands on her hips, trying to be her usual self. For the time being she was just happily distracted by her friend, but she also knew she'd be upset all over again once she started telling him what was going on, if he stuck around...
Her super-girl stance didn't really suit her at the moment though, hands on hips in green pajamas wasn't really a look anyone could pull off.

She didn't seem to take his comment too seriously, but he was pretty sure he could kick some arse on Delilah's behalf if it was necessary. He didn't condone violence under normal circumstances, but he had never seen so many emotions on his friend's face at one time, hurt, anger, frustration, anguish. It wasn't something Connor liked or hoped to see again, and he wanted to fix it. He couldn't do that, however, without knowing what was up.
" No, yeah I'll stick around. I just thought you might like... nevermind, it's fine, I'll stay. " He hadn't really wanted to leave in the first place but figured it polite to at least offer some space if she was looking for it. He offered a small smile up to his friend.
' Trust me, they're the furthest things on my mind. '
Connor continued to look up to Delilah who was now standing atop the rock with her hands on her hips, looking as if she was posing for something. Or standing against something, it wasn't definitive. " Then's what's on ya mind, D? Are you alright? "

Delilah's eyebrow on the right side of her pale face popped up, "What's nevermind?" She asked, curious now. She stared down at her friend for a few more moments before deciding to pace a top the rock for a moment or two. The small girl was starting to wonder if Connor would ever make his way onto the rock, but he was still down there the next time she peeked over the boulder.
She supposed it was time to come clean about what was on her mind. Delilah wasn't one to get over things easily, and because this was something way bigger than she'd ever had to go through, she was taking it very hard, even if she appeared to just be a little out of it. Delilah knelt down, peering at Connor for a second, before hopping off the rock, and actually managing to land on her feet with grace, a first for the small, clumsy, Slytherin.
As she stood up straighter, she crossed her arms in front of herself, sighing deeply before looking at her friend. "Something... pretty terrible happened today..." She said, her eyes looking over Connor's shoulder at nothing in particular, she was just afraid of freaking him out even more than she already had, and she knew that if she looked him in the eyes, she'd start crying again. But she didn't exactly have any close girl friends to open up to, and not like there was anything wrong with Connor, she just didn't want to make him feel uncomfortable.
She sighed again, and looked up now, tapping her foot now, struggling to find the right words, "My uh... my dad, he passed away from a heart attack this morning..." She said, trying to be blunt, but finding it hard to believe the words coming out of her mouth. Weren't they in the wizarding world? Didn't they have something for ailments such as these? She blinked a few times, forcing the tears away for now, guessing that wizard or not, her dad was still human, and susceptible to all human traits, even the more gruesome ones.
