Derrick stood at the edge of the forbidden forest. Not nervous about what lay in side but hesitant because he just wasn't to sure whether he was ready for it spell wise or not. Either way should he really go in alone? It was risky he knew but what was the worse that could happen? He wouldn't mind if he lost a leg or something of that nature but he'd miss his hands and arms dearly should they be torn off. How would he play guitar or finish learning the songs he wished to know on piano; it would be quite impossible. Sighing he wiped these thoughts from his mind as he stood in front of the forest. He was ready otherwise he wouldn't have left Niwa at home, he wouldn't have actually taken care of picking out a shirt that he didn't particular care about to wear, and he wouldn't be standing here right now about to enter the Forbidden Forest. Maybe this was what being nervous was like but Derrick wouldn't know seeing as any time he had felt like this before in his life he hadn't called it being nervous. Inhaling deeply Derrick stared into the depths of the forest debating on what exactly his next steps should be and whether or not he should enter the Forbidden Forest. As Derrick thought about the Forest though a thought came to mind that he voiced despite knowing the answer. "What makes it so forbidden?" He knew what made it forbidden of course. The supposed monsters and beasties that littered the forest's floor and tree tops. Derrick said supposed because he had never in fact talked to anyone who had been in the forest and of course he had never been in it himself. Researching the forest and being in it were two totally different things as he full well knew. He had done his research though on what was supposed to be in the forest's depths and what exactly each creature was. This though he knew was probably not enough as Derrick highly doubted anyone had ever done a full comprehensive canvas of the forest. How could they have done this if it was as dangerous as everyone said it was? Sighing he shifted his weight placing a hand in his pocket and pulling his wand out which he began twirling casually. If he had a partner that would make this so much easier but he highly doubted anyone would be willing to go into the forest with him. Derrick knew he had to also consider the possibility of any precautions that may have been taken by the staff to keep students out. Would there be an age line or possibly someone keeping watch? After all if students weren't supposed to enter the forbidden forest because of how forbidden it was shouldn't there be someone on guard or something? Pausing Derrick realized he was trying to rationalize the whole ordeal which really wasn't necessary. "I just need to go for it and stop trying to stop myself from going in. I'll make it I'm strong." He was strong wasn't he? Making it through your parent's death, an orphanage, dealing with classes, and being able to actually perform a Patronus didn't all those things make him strong. Now he had friends to and for whatever reason they just made him feel stronger. He wished one of them was here now maybe Josh or Maddyson but he had no idea what either of them were up to at the moment. They weren't here now and now was all that mattered for Derrick. Maybe this was also a new found weakness for him. Had he begun to relie to heavily on the friends that he had made. Did he need them now to be himself or would the just help him move forward? They couldn't become a crutch for them could he? Derrick shook his thoughts and knew he would figure things like that out later. They were probably all still asleep it was after all early morning who else could be awake right now. Derrick hadn't sighted anyone in The Great Hall or on the way down here for that matter. Inhaling he stopped twirling his wand and gripped it tightly. He would go in now and conquer whatever got in his path should he have to. This of course was if anything really needed to be handled in that manner. Derrick liked animals and magical creatures in general so hopefully he wouldn't have to harm them. Sighing Derrick decided to enter but then heard someone behind him. Maybe it wasn't as early as he thought but the sun had been awake like him for more then an hour so who knew maybe someone else was up. Turning he spoke in his usual soft words but this time with a sense of urgency or possibly it was nervousness that laced his words. After all depending on who it was they could prohibit me Derrick from entering the forest. "Whose there?" Derrick waited nervously for a reply clutching his wand hoping that whoever it was wouldn't delay him from entering the forest and if they did that it would only be for a few hours. Open to whoever

Luke really had no reason for being near the forest. In London, morning walks had kept him in a good mood, watching th sun creep over the tops of the soot-laden roofs, slowly illuminating the park around him while birds chirruped in the trees. He supposed he was trying to relive one of those habitual morning walks this morning. Hogwarts and London had very radically different geographics so spotting the forest, a sense of adventurousness crept over him. Five years in this place and not once had he bothered to walk in the Forbidden Forest! He'd managed elephant stampedes in Grahamstown, RSA... stared down a giraffe in the blazing barren Namibian desert and after all that, a "forbidden forest" had alluded him? Not this morning. Not no way, not no how. But then he'd spotted a boy twirling his wand in his hand, standing at the edge of the forest, and things had gotten very real. Elephant stampedes were deadly, but at least you died on impact; fighting a giraffe wasn't exactly deadly, and they were so clumsy and awkward, it was easy to get by them. But in there lurked, possibly, something far worse.
"Whose there?" The boy spoke softly. He seemed young, but not without confidence... or maybe it was guts he had? Luke reached into his pyjama pocket to feel for his wand. Luckily it was there, but forgetfulness was a terrible trait Luke possessed.
"Sorry, mate. Didn't mean to startle you... but are you really considering going in there alone?" Luke ventured, not daring to move any closer in case this boy was possessed by some demon, and that was what had brought him to the forest in the morning. He observed the grip the boy had on his wand and began thinking the defense spells he'd been taught... just in case, you know, anything should go awry.

The hold on his wand loosened and Derrick relaxed for a brief moment. The person who had decided to join him on this early morning was in fact a fellow student or so it seemed from his voice. Granted he would have to turn around to determine fully who in fact it was but by the tone and nervousness it possessed he highly doubted it was a full grown adult or even a seventh year. It wasn't a question of ability so much but by the way he had phrased it. An adult would have forbid him from entering the Forbidden Forest and so would a seventh year, depending on who it was, or so he assumed. Turning though his expression softened and he began to twirl his wand again. It wasn't anyone threatening as he had thought or at least that was not how Derrick viewed Luke Torrington. Derrick had learned very recently though that one should not always judge the people that life dealt him without getting to know them fully. After all he had thought Brenton was decent enough from his experience with the boy in class but found out on a one on one basis Derrick hated Brenton's guts.
"It's fine usually when people approach me I don't have my back turned or I hear them. Just got a little self consumed there typical Derrick Breckenridge behavior I guess. That was the plan though yes really didn't ask anyone to join me on the way out but if you'd care to feel free to follow."
It was officially official Derrick had made up his mind. He would enter the forest and explore it's complex and mysterious depths. What more could one ask for before breakfast then some good old fashion adventure? At least now he might have a companion but that was of course if Luke was up to the task of traveling with him. If not that was fine he would venture alone and should he need some form of company he could always summon Kira and then hopefully his patronus would stay with him for as long as he wished her to. The white tiger had become quite a friend over the past week and of course Derrick had named the tiger. It was the kind of bond that he shared with Niwa but his cat wasn't a magical spell that would ward off dementors and possibly slightly scare other creatures. Bringing his thoughts back to the moment though he was a tad bit despaired at how neglectful he had been of his animal and when he returned to his room he would make sure to spend some time with his feline friend. Turning his attention to Luke though he smiled sheepishly.
"So are you in or are you going to attempt to talk me out of it?"
It was the truth most people judged Derrick heavily by his age. He wasn't one to show his skill in wand work and other such areas in front of others so most thought he was just quiet because he had nothing intelligent to say. They took him for his skill at guitar and that was it. No one knew that he dabbled in piano slightly or that his next musical target would be that of learning the violin. This was of course by his step parents urging as they said he would most likely enjoy it and his step mother could teach him. Derrick of course had no qualms with this as he enjoyed music so learning something new wasn't going to bother him in the least. Scratching the back of his head he waited for Luke to tell him what exactly his view was on the third year entering the forest. Either way he would go Derrick just wanted to know if he was in or out.

Luke wondered if, as the boy smiled, there was something behind that smile. Probably not, though, knowing the younger students; where they lacked in sophisticated magical intelligence, they certainly made up for in courage. As a first year, Luke had... considered venturing into the forest, but never had he gotten this far. Memories of his second through fourth years were pretty much awash. Only the end of last year had been worth a memory. He could see the boy patiently waiting for a reply.
Well, Lukas, ye may not have his guts, but ye do have some skill with defense. Sometimes brains didn't offer the best or most comforting advice, and this was such a time. But it seemed that the ultimatum before him was 'now or never'. "Well, I suppose I could try to talk you out of it... but I doubt it'd do any good," he joked, making up his mind. "I'm slightly better with me wand than with me words." He brandished his wand, sort of as though it were a rapier. Luke made note of the sudden darkness of the forest and tried to swallow back cowardice.
"I'm in."

Derrick watched the boy consider it. If he said yes was it only to make sure that he didn't get hurt? On the other hand could it be though that possibly the boy wanted to explore the forest just as much as Derrick did? Either way it didn't matter to Derrick as long as their intentions were the same he was fine with it. Still he twirled his wand in his hand and made a mental note to attempt to stop the growing habit. It was odd and as it was he was already odd enough no more encouragement was needed in that area. Shifting wand hands he began to do so with his left hand with a little less skill. The boy was considering the offer still and as he did so Derrick had a feeling he was attempting to read Derrick's face and body language. That was pointless. He had to give the boy credit as he seemed to be actually one of the few people around here who attempted such a thing but even so Derrick wasn't readable. Only in times of very raw emotion was this possible and this wasn't one of those times. The day with Josh and the after effect in the rain that had very much been one of those times. At this though he was calm and this made Derrick's moods unreadable. Luke had come to a decision though and with that Derrick was ready to set off.
"Brilliant lets get a move on then."
Derrick realized he should have probably asked the boy whether or not he wanted to change into some normal clothes and out of his pjs but he didn't care. Luke had after all agreed to come along with and hadn't mentioned small details such as changing ones clothes for something a bit more adventure friendly. Shrugging it off Derrick knew that he wouldn't mind traveling through the forest in such garments seeing as they were light and if caught on something would just rip easily and not cause him to have to unhook himself. This of course came in handy when one was attempting to run from someone or something. Turning his attention back to Luke he motioned towards the forest pushing aside some shrubbery and looking back at him with a glint of excitement in his eye. He was finally going to enter this so called forbidden forest.
"Luke isn't it? I'll lead you follow mate."
It was odd his sense of adventure but this was nature oh so beautiful nature. This was the kind of thing that made him want to wake up in the morning. Rather he'd much rather sleep in the forest but he knew that wasn't going to happen. People had to do searches of this place didn't they? He was bound to get caught and was more likely safe sleeping on the front lawn or in the courtyard then in the forest. He would do that some time but for now he would have to deal with the forest. Holding the shrubbery's branches back for Luke to enter he made it into a small clearing placing a hand on his hip and scratching the back of his head with his wand.
"Now this isn't too bad is it?"
What was there to be scared of in here. Derrick had yet to find something but for some odd reason he wanted to. What would such an adventure be without a little dramatics due to a beastie leaping out at him. As long as he kept his hands that was all Derrick really cared about. Vain he knew but he just enjoyed music far too much. Standing examining his surroundings he waited for Luke's take on the situation.

Following the younger, Luke entered into the forest.
In all honesty, Luke was not sure what he'd expected the forest to look like inside. Older kids had spread rumours about the terrible things that could lurk here, and of course, there were the school legends - of centaurs and gigantic spiders... even dragons! and giants! - but most of what the others had said seemed to vanish when they actually got into the forest. There were no three-headed minotaurs (as one kid had mentioned), no pixies the size of your arm flying about (and he should've suspected that girl was lying... for if she'd told the truth, it would've been for the first time). Like most other forests, it was full of trees. Tall trees. Lots of roots and a sense of perpetual smoke or fog lingering in the air.
"Lovely, eh?" Luke said, observing the foliage above. "Wouldn't choose to build my vacation home here, but not half as bad as they've said." He tried joking about it, since he was completely relieved they'd been standing in the forbidden forest for close to five minutes without some creature (flying monkeys, lions, tigers or bears) coming at them. "And here I was thinking I'd have to use some Defense spells..." he said laughingly. Hopefully all stayed well.

((mind if i join?)) Maya restless, her mind twisting and turning in the way it always did when she thought of home. She missed her dry, hot desert, and she missed her father, and she missed her horses. It was too wet in this country. How was anyone supposed to live in all this wet? She had thought she would be used to it after five years. Yes she loved her aunt and uncle, and yes she loved Hogwarts and being a witch but she did not love the whether. True, there were hot days but they were mostly humid hot day, nothing compared to Mexico.
Maya was perched in a large, gnarled oak tree with so many knots in the trunk it was like rock climbing to get half way up. Maya always loved a good view but she was deathly afraid of heights, so half way up was the most she could force on herself. Maya thought of it as therapy, forcing heights on herself. She talked herself into climbing trees, and going to the towers in the castle, but however often she did stunts she hardly ever looked down. One of the reasons Maya enjoyed the forest so much was because of it's silence and solitude. It reminded her ever so slightly of home.
Her eyes were closed as she balanced on her wide branch and her back resting against the massive trunk. Her almond shaped mahogany eyes snapped open as she heard soft voices and movement below her, but she didn't look down. Maya cocked her head slightly and a furrow appeared on her brow as she strained to year what the voices were saying. With a start, Maya realized she recognized the voices as two boys from her own house. Maya took a deep steadying breath before gripping the slender branch above her with a small white knuckled hand before looking downward. For a moment her vision swam and Maya tried to swallow but her mouth was suddenly paper dry. A few deep calming breaths later and Maya's panic was subdued and she could see the two boys below.
Maya let out a soft chuckle when she caught sight of Luke in his pj's, and heard his last halfhearted remark. "I wouldn't put your wand away yet Torrington," she called down and her white teeth flashed against her dark complexion in a joking smile, "You never know what might be lucking up a nearby tree." Her Spanish accent was all too noticeable as she called Luke's name, rolling his double 'r's as smoothly as butter, but at the moment Maya didn't care. A soft breeze washed over Maya, soothing her and her short auburn hair shifted around her catlike smiling face.

((sorry to break etiquette, Derrick)) Luke jumped, stunned into a child-like mindset... until he looked up and saw the red-haired girl perched in the tree. He'd never have noticed her if she'd not spoken up... that was the extent of his obliviousness to his surroundings. At least in South Africa, one could see all around them. In the township he'd lived in, it was different; anyone could be lurking behind the tin houses the Afrikaners had erected, half-heartedly, for the native people. But one also gained a sense of awareness in that environment (which had felt more and more like a tin cage) learning to catch the movement of a person as its soundwaves bounced from one corrogated tin wall to the next. And out in the desert too, vast and, occasionally, green, one caught the thunder of a stampede many kilometres away, even before the dust drifted into the air. But here, in the woods or in the highlands, it seemed everything was hidden, subtle. Luke heaved a sigh, and as he did he forgot the girl's name. He'd seen her around. Oh she was a fellow 'Puff, so he assumed she was playing with his nerves (an easy thing to do, he'd begun to realise). And her Cheshire cat grin (reminiscent of former Prime Minister Blair's devious "I'm in the process of screwing you lovely British folks over" smile) further assured him that his momentary recreation of a timid child being scared by an older child was all this young woman needed. And he caught her Spanish accent, racking his brain for a name. Marta? No... that was Swedish. Maria? Maybe... possibly too Spanish or too predictable. Mimi? Merlin's beard, no! That was, what? Italian? Mara? Maybe. "Well, I must admit, I was rather expecting a flying monkey rather than a girl." Luke exclaimed, trying a fake laugh to cover-up the fact that she'd just completely freaked him out. "I know your face, but for the life of me, I can't remember your name." He joked. ((I speak for myself, of course, but perhaps its true for Derrick too; Maya, it's a pleasure to have you! ))

Maya allowed herself a small smile of satisfaction when she noticed how she had rattled Luke, but at the same time she felt slightly guilty. She herself was horribly jumpy, to the extent that if a shadow of a bird passed over her head she would flinch. Maya could see him struggling with her name like most others did. Maya was quiet, only showing her true exuberant plums of personality when around those few companions who brought them out of her.
A peal of bell like laughter escaped her after he called up to her. Before answering, Maya swung off of her branch and on to the one below so that she was facing the trunk and wouldn't have to look down too much while descending. It only took her a matter of moments to reach the forest floor, and turned to smile up at the two boys. Maya had to look up because both boys were considerably taller than her five foot and two inches. "Well sorry to disappoint, but I don't think I resemble much of a flying monkey,"she joked, her cinnamon eyes dancing in a playful way. "My name is Maya," she said then looked at each boy in turn. She knew both by sight even if they didn't talk much. Luke was even in the same year as herself if she wasn't mistaken. "Well I remember you Luke even if you don't remember me," she joked in a taunted way before turning to the other boy and giving him a friendly smile, "and you're Derrick." It was a statement not a question. "Third year, perhaps?"

(Not at all even though you paid no attention to Derrick until the second post hmph haha)
Derrick stood admiring the foliage, the old trees, and bushes that had all grown shooting upwards towards the sky some still growing and others that seemed to have give up in their attempt and turned into gnarled old things. Still Derrick found both types of trees and the others that covered the forest charming none the less. Brushing hair from his face with his spare hand and laughed quietly at Luke's remark. The boy was wrong on that count though and that was why Derrick had laughed. Derrick would love to have a summer home in this place. He'd kill for it actually. It was so nice and peaceful, granted it probably wasn't always this way, but enough so that Derrick wouldn't mind having a small cottage right here. Waking up in the morning in this gorgeous clearing would be delightful just as looking out the window at the aging trees would be also. Smiling to himself he turned to Luke still twirling his wand and shrugged going along with his fellow Hufflepuff's jest.
"Oh I don't know put a fountain out front along with a walkway and I may just invest in the property myself. No need to worry I'm in front I can handle myself. Rather have you not blast my head off by accident to I've grown to like the thing as unattractive as some may find it."
Scratching the back head of his head with his spare hand he smiled aimlessly and shrugged again. He didn’t know why but the forest but him at ease, this of course was the case with most forms of nature so why should he be surprised? Derrick began twirling his wand again in his right hand and staring aimlessly around the forest still taking in all it had to offer in the morning sunlight. He heard it then but it was too late as the girl spoke. Derrick ignored the banter between Luke and the new arrival and took this time to curse at himself for letting this nearly happen twice in one day. He had caught it before hand when Luke had approached but with this girl he had missed her presence. Was he losing his edge or was he just that taken a back by the forest’s beauty? He usually was so much more aware though and the thought that he hadn’t caught her presence was perturbing him. Derrick watched now closely as she came down from the tree and approached them. She seemed to realize he was there all of a sudden and as he took in what she had to say Derrick simply continued to twirl his wand in his right hand. Derrick Breckenridge did not appreciate being snuck up on and quirking a brow he put the finger on what Luke could not before but she beat him to the chase with her name.
"Yes that's my name Miss. Castillo."
Derrick ran a hand through his hair. He was an observer what did people expect of him and just because he hadn’t been vocal over the past two years didn’t mean he noticed things. People had a tendency to talk the loudest around people who they thought weren’t paying attention or that they didn’t realize were there. Unfortunately for him, Derrick was that person. He knew everyones name in his house simply from sitting in the common room for a few days. How though did he not know Maddyson’s name after all she was beautiful how could he have not noticed her before the train. It felt appropriate though that she was the one girl who brought him out of his shell. The girl whose name he hadn’t known from his house. Shaking his head he brought his thoughts back to the moment. Turning he faced Luke still twirling his wand still in his hand and thinking how much he really needed to stop doing so.
“I’d prefer to get a move on I didn’t really pack a lunch or anything.”
Turning to Maya he scratched the back of his head as he thought on whether to invite her along or not. It didn’t matter one more person wouldn’t hurt.
“You can come to if you care to. I just really would like to explore a bit more hopefully see something.”

"Sure, sure. Lets keep going then." Luke said, also feeling eager to move on. With Maya around it felt like Luke was the only person who had no experience with this adventurous thing. It was probably true... at least comparatively. Derrick looked like the sort of boy who had no problem moving through more dangerous situations in his life. He seemed likely to be a risk taker. Given Maya's entrance, she had no issue with heights (something Luke couldn't say about himself) and she seemed to be at ease in these sorts of places as well. Luke felt in good company, more than just in the adventurous way.
Despite being a little sarcastic, Derrick was made up of good stuff, Luke considered. He must be a true Hufflepuff, unafraid of toil, certainly loyal to some aspects of his life (as in music). At the same time, Luke couldn't help but wonder where the puck stopped with Derrick. His comment about losing his "unattractive" head seemed to wink on some confidence issues, but how could one be afflicted with confidence issues, yet not mind venturing into the Forbidden Forest? Well, he was younger... maybe the young were getting more gutsy, more brazen. As for Maya, Luke wasn't sure about her. She had age as an advantage, wisdom certainly came from living through a lot, and given her accent, she had to have been through some trials. Moving from one place one knows well enough to a place one doesn't know as well is an adventure that Luke could identify with. Perhaps moving from wherever she'd moved, Maya had been able to gain that wisdom?
"You're a fifth year, Maya?" Luke spoke as he tried to avoid falling on the large roots sticking up out of the forest floor. To do this, he had to look down, so though he'd have preferred to face the girl, his momentary fear of face-planting get him from doing so. "Sorry to not have remembered you. I spend a lot of time in the library by myself, since you and Derrick are about the only people I can call friends here. I don't really know many people in the house even. Don't spend much time there." His excuses sounded cheap, even if they were true.

Maya raised an eyebrow at Derrick, a small smile playing across her lips. She was intreiged that he actually knew her last name when so few even recalled her first. When the younger Hufflepuff invited her along Maya threw a quick glance over her shoulder in the direction of the school grounds. when Maya wandered alone into the forest she was always careful to keep the castle grounds in sight. However, the adventerous side of her personality won out and nodded to the two boys, "I'm in."
Maya skipped eaisly across the the large jutting roots, keeping her balance by keeping at least one hand on a nearby tree trunk. Maya could be graceful when she tried, but her klutziness always seemed to rear its ugly head at the worst moments possible. "Yep, same as you," she said flashing Luke a quick smile before she went back to concentrating on where she put her feet. Maya shrugged, "No big deal. I'm sorta low key myself. The only reason I know your names is because I try to keep tabs on other Hufflepuffs. If they had a barn out here that's where I'd spend all my time."

They gave the Derrick the okay and that was all he needed to go. Silently he lead on without a word. They were talking among themselves and excluding him but it really didn't bother him in the least. They most likely had more in common and Derrick was on a mission. Maya and Luke were just along for the ride and hopefully they would enjoy it. Walking he ran his hands against trees feeling the roots beneath his feet. It was nothing that he wasn't used to as this was how he had spent his past few summers walking through woods and forests exploring the wonders of nature. Silently he saw the tree he had been looking for. It had been visible from the edge of the forest and now he had found it.
"I'll be right back I'm going to go get a better look around."
Stopping where he stood Derrick examined the tree silently and then nodded to himself. In one quick movement Derrick took a running leap catching his foot off one of the smaller lower branches. Kicking off it he caught on to one of the more sturdy branches just above it and lifted himself up. With precision and ease Derrick climbed the tree moving from branch to branch till he reached the highest and safest branch to stand on. Sitting on it for a brief moment he looked out into the distance swinging his feet back and forth enjoying the scenery. This is why he had woken up this morning was to see this forest from the air. The treetops spread as far as he could see he relished in the moment. Sighing he gathered his point of directions and descended the tree. He didn't want to leave Maya and Luke alone too long.
Jumping from the the last branch he landed in a crouch and stood up. Pointing towards there intended direction he lead on again. Derrick had nothing to say for he knew that as corny as it even sounded in his mind what he had just seen had left him breathless. He would be returning to that tree again no matter what.

He was not sure how Maya managed to navigate her way so easily with all the roots taunting their feet, begging to trip them. Maybe Luke was a klutz? Maybe being careful was only another way of making sure that when one fell (which seemed inevitable) it was a graceful fall. Regardless, it was quite a trick moving about freely in the forest. As they came to a clearing (or so it seemed to be a clearing - it was certainly less gloomy than the rest of the forest) Luke spotted a couple of trees grouped together. The suffocated slant of light that hit that cluster looked incredibly picturesque, and while this was a perfect moment to be wary of creatures one could not see easily (due to light), Luke found himself more captivated by the natural beauty of this play on light.
"You see that group of trees over there?" He whispered, not really to anyone in particular. Maya was closest to him, so she might respond, but she also seemed a bit preoccupied with her "fancy footwork" around the roots. Derrick must not have heard him for he announced his departure to go look around and did just that soon thereafter. So it would have to be a moment, among many, which Luke shared some beauty with no one else. Sounded kind of lonesome, but then again - at least in this sort of world - solidarity seemed an ever increasing problem as well as solution. He'd tell Chris about it later, maybe even tempt the more adventurous second year to see it again. Luke found he'd rooted himself to the spot, looking at the shadows the slant of light cast on other trees. You wouldn't find this in Hyde Park, for sure.

Maya frowned at Derrick's back and shuddered as he swung himself gracefully into the tree. Oh she could force herself to climb trees on occasion, but in such a fancy manner. "Be careful!" she called after him as he dissappeared. Maya wasn't sure she liked the idea of Derrick wandering off alone because he might run into something not quite as pleasent as herself in the treetops this time. And on the off chance that there were any slumbering creatures hiding nearby, Maya's shout had probably just woken them up. "The little daredevil," she muttered darkly under her breath before looking up to see what Luke was talking about.
"Oh!" she gasped awed by the magnificent sight. "It's beautiful," she whispered, and her golden face lit up with a smile of excitment. She skipped ahead of the motionless Luke to get a better look, forgetting for a moment that she had just scolded Derrick for doing the same thing. However, Maya wasn't quite as comfortible alone in the forest as Derrick was, so when she noticed that Luke wasn't following she retraced her steps, grabbed him by the hand and towed him along behind her.
