A low, deep rumble broke the eerie silence within the walls of the Great Hall. The noise was so out of place -or perhaps it fit just right- in the air that it only added to the ominous feeling of foreboding coming in waves from the deserted room. Not even the band seemed to be present, so where was the guitar strumming originating from? The instruments set upon the raised platform dead center in the room lay untouched and moved not an inch.
White smoke swept over the floor in waves, curling and hissing as it turned in upon itself as if it were trying to find an escape from the confines of the room. Wisps sought the open door but abruptly changed direction. Close to complete darkness, the only source of light that illuminated the dancing area were candle-filled pumpkins floating high in the air, scattered few and far between. Not even the enchanted ceiling showed the clear skies of stars and the full moon, only the illusion of hundreds of glowing bat eyes.
Rickety tables that seemed about to collapse and chairs decorated with faces horribly distorted and disfigured were left to the shadows with one candle floating above each. At the front of the Hall atop the staff table lay mountains of food. Skulls with sinew and viscera still oozing from pockets served as bowls. Cups with gnarled, three-dimensional designs like cursed tree branches curling and snaking around them lined bowls of punch a deep, garnet color and pumpkin juice. Human fingers with pointed nails embedded themselves in cheese cubes next to crackers. All sorts of horrid delights awaited digestion, filling every inch of the table, including fat cupcakes, black in color, topped with chocolate frosting so dark it might as well have disappeared in with the rest of the environment. Utensils in the shape of skeletal arms and legs arranged in neat piles surrounded plates with skulls grinning up from them.
A creaking wooden sign hung just in front of the entrance, a white speck at the end of a dark hall, urging the students to step into the shadowy Ball. Enter if ye dare, it read in blood still oozing freshly in droplets to the floor.

Solis was standing outside of the door, nodding at random students. She was on watch for provocative clothing. On her watch, there would be no skimpy costumes! Solis was "creatively" dressed up in black and orange robes. The only thing unusual about her was that she was wearing long, black leather boots. Her gloved arms were crossed and she leaned on the door way, eyeing each student carefully.
She was probably not even allowed to do this, but she felt the need to make sure that the school rules were upheld. Ellie looked at the sigh with distaste, feeling slightly creeped out. She never liked blood much...

Ivy walked in the Great Hall, in full costume. She had spent several painful hours perfecting her costume. Her usual long dark hair had been cropped short, and dyed a light, light silver. Her violet-coloured contacts were traded in for stunning green ones. In contrary to her word, she was not dressed up as a French Maid or a Playboy Model, but rather Kadaj from Advent Children. Sure, Kadaj was a male, but Ivy looked stunningly androgenous. She was intimidatingly beautiful and handsome at the same time. Donned in full black leather, Ivy looked extremely different from her usual state. In fact, it would be surprising if people had actually recognized her.
She held out her arms and admired her costume. She had taken so long to make it, and it turned out perfectly. "I think I might just keep my hair and eyes this color for a while," she said, as she looked at herself while she passed a mirror. Ivy had to admit that she did like this look.
"Hello Professor," she greeted as she passed Professor Solis. "You look lovely!"
Ivy seemed to be the only one there at the moment. She crossed her arms, hoping that the Ball would pick up soon. She hadn't spent 6+ hours fixing her hair, makeup, and making that costume for nothing!
(look at the links of the sig for her costume ^^)

Charon entered the hall quietly, not trying to draw attention to himself. His costume would do that for him tonight. He was dressed all in scarlet, with a huge hat and feathers. The hat itself was black, with a red hat-band and scarlet feathers thrust into the band. On his back was a red-velvet cloak that trailed on the floor like a king's train. Embroidered in gold on the cape were the words "Don't touch me! I am Red Death stalking abroad!" As fine and beautiful as this was, though, the piece de resistance was his face. On his face he wore the most terrible and wonderfully made death's head mask, but that was nothing compared to his real face. Charon had searched long and hard for a spell that would alter his face exactly as he wanted it, and that would wear off before the next morning. And when he'd found and applied it, it was magnificently horrible. His face itself was a death's head, with the four black holes of eyes, nose and mouth, and not a ray of light from the sockets. He'd even enchanted his eyes so that they blazed only in the dark. His hands too had been enchanted. Were anyone to look, they would swear his hands were those of a living skeleton. All in all, Charon had managed to bring forth a character from the pages of Gaston Leroux' Phantom of the Opera. Tonight, Charon was Red Death.
As he entered the hall, he looked around. It seemed the staff had put as much work into decorating as he had into his costume. Perhaps more. The hall was gruesomely awesome. Halloween was one of his favorite holidays, and the decorations were proof why.

Arianna stepped into the Great Hall and glanced nervously around. She didn't see anyone resembling what Krissy had told her to look for so she moved to the wall just right of the door and stood there, watching as she adjusted her costume. If anyone wanted to know where Arianna had gotten the inspiration for her costume, she would honestly have to say she didn't know. She had taken a full black body suit and slashed it across the belly, shortened one of the legs, and cut off one arm leaving just enough for a glove upon her left hand. Upon her shoulders and left leg she wore old pieces of armour, shrunk to fit. On her hands, small contraptions resembling Wolverine's claws. Ah, but someone would wonder what the heck she was supposed to be. To deter questions (well, most, anyway) she did a little Transfiguration and made her ears larger, furrier, and sitting higher upon her head than normal. As Krissy might call her: Psycho Kitty.

Anna entered the great hall in her to find not to many people she was familiar with. Unless they were unrecognizeable in their costumes. Though she felt sure that they would show up soon. It took Anna quite a while to get her costume on. She was dressed in a very torn up blouse with a frightening looking skeleton costum under it. The skeleton part of it was bewitched to look a bit realistic once she put it on.
Of course, if she was going to be a skeleton pirate she had to get all the proper accesories to do so. Anna had a sword tucked into the left side of her sash, a fake pistol, a bandana around her head and some fake blood dripping down the side of her mouth. When she looked at herself in the common room, she had to admit that she looked rather guresome. As she contined to walk around in her big pirate boots, she decided just to stand by the door and wait for Tristan to arrive. She couldn't wait to see his costume.

Ray had no idea about Halloween until the day after she had arrived at Hogwarts. After gathering what she could she could not think of anything that was scary she could dress up as, either the other students would have no idea or she had no idea how to dress up as it, in most cases both. She had almost went as a snake or a bat, but she would have never been able to wear it. The day before the dance she decided on what she could go as, a ghost. Originally she was going to drape a sheet over her and cut a hole for eyes and another for her mouth. But today, with a little help from the Room of Requirement (Which she was calling the Costume Room) and a kind older student, she had made a slightly better costume. All of her visible skin had been turned to white as snow, her irises had been changed to the same white as her eyes, and all her clothes were the same white as her skin, she had even changed the cloth wound around her hand from her normal gray one to a white one. She was wearing a one-piece suit that was shot sleeved and ended just past her knees, it clung to her skin tightly so it was hard to tell where it began and her skin left off. Even her hair had been temporarily died to white and lips changed to white.
As Ray stood in front of her dorm room mirror she reflected that the only thing she really liked was her eyes, her pupils were the only color on her and sat like swirling pools of blackness amongst all the white and with her irises also turned white she thought it gave her a slightly creepy look.
She laughed, her tongue was a very light pale pink as was all the inside of her mouth, besides her teeth which were of course unnaturally white. She hurried out of the dorm and down to the Great Hall. All the mist made her almost invisible. She grinned and walked over to where she could see the dark outlines of people.

Talia didn't spend that much time on her costume, but it looked the way she wanted it to when she was done. She was dressed in simple white bell bottom pants, and a backless, white shirt. She wore white flip flops on her feet, and had enchanted a halo to float above her head, her hair in a high pony tail. She was going more for comfort and simplicity than anything else.
To contrast, and to complete the whole point of her costume, she wore heavy black eyeliner and mascara around her eyes, which highlighted her light brown eyes. She loved it, along with the black nail polish on her fingers and toes. On her right arm, were black bangles, and on her left, white ones. She thought she looked decent enough. And although anyone would recognize her, she didn't mind, and thought her yin-yang idea was awesome. Herself being 'good' with a tad of 'evil'. She also hoped Ash and her would compliment each other, since they were supposed to be opposites.
Talia proceeded to walk to the Ball, and got to the doors, and noticed the sign. She grinned and thought it was brilliant. She looked to the Skeleton Pirate waiting outside the doors and walked up to her, noticing it was Anna after quite some time. "Hey!" She said, not wanting to say her name outloud just incase no one else would recognize her. "Nice costume." She said, standing next to the girl now. "Who you waiting for?" She said, deciding she might aswell wait with someone she new, and hoped her date would get here soon.

Pat trod the path from the Huffle common room to the Great Hall with a slight smirk on his face. His looks tonight, although different from normal, didn't make him unrecognizable. One could tell from a single glance it was him, but that didn't detract from his costume at all. Tonight, Pat bore sleek white cat ears, positioned high on his head, in place of his real ears. His eyes, normally deep brown, were a vivid piercing green, with slitted pupils. He also had a tail, of the same style as his ears, a milky white, swishing behind him as he walked. He wore a tie, not all-together out off place with his white shirt and pitch-black slacks. The finishing touch of the illusion was the bell choker around his neck, tingling slightly with every step. His reason for donning this costume had not been his own bidding; it had been Krissy's. Oh yes, it was the redheaded sixth year's idea to have him dress up as he was now, as a cat (or "kitty" as she has said). He didn't know why exactly she'd told him to do so, but he did, and was now entering the Great Hall, past the blood-written sign. Pat knew he was to meet Krissy here in the Hall; he had no idea what her own costume would be. He was a tad nervous; Pat had very rarely been on what would qualify as a "date" with Krissy before. As far as he could recall, the only instance before now was that picnic she'd given him on his birthday a few weeks back. It was kind of a coincidence then that today, Halloween, was Krissy's birthday. Pat smiled to himself; he'd managed to get what he thought a decent gift, which was now sitting in his pocket. Standing near the doors to the Hall, Pat waited, wondering where Krissy was, and when she would arrive. (( Link to Pat's Halloween pic. Also conveniently located in my sig. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) ))

(look at the links of the sig for her costume ^^) Mike had followed Ivy into the Great Hall, unknown to her of course, and in actual fact it didn't really look like Mike was walking, thanks to the robes he now wore, they were black as the night apart from the small red clouds around it in different places. His now long black hair covered his face lightly, but the most penetrating aspect of his costume were the contacts that he now wore, they were not only red, but the main pupil now had 3 others around it each with small tails, add to the fact that they rotated around the main pupil and it was a rather good talking point. One arm was properly in the sleeve but his other hung out the front of the robes, just like the character, Itachi, whom Mike was portraying always had, but in the anime/manga that Itachi was from, it was when he moved that arm, that his enemies knew it was too late. But in Mike's case he just had it like that cause he could. He slowly crept up on Ivy, a smirk on his face as he did so. The moment he was behind her, he tapped her on the back and whispered in her ear, "Trying to get away huh?"

Krissy had been getting ready for over an hour now. Which was really a first for Krissy as she usually didn't prepair for anything and was usually late, but she had started early determined to not be late tonight. She wanted to be on time for Pat. She knew what he was going as but she hadn't told him what she was going as. But she had chooen hers to match his. The reason for her taking so long was it took quite a while to get her ears just how she liked them.
Krissy looked nothing like herself tonight, her normally bright red hair had been dyed to a sleek silver colour, which sparkeled in the night, a color that quite easily matched Pats. It had also been cut short, so it no longer reached down past her shoulders but instead sat just above them.
Poking out from amounst her hair were two big round mouse ears. But that wasn't the unusual part. One of the ears had a chunk missing out of it. What looked like a chunk that someone, or something had bitten off. It seemed, she had had a bite taken out of her ear. It had taken Krissy a very long time to transfigure the ears to be absolutely perfectly how she wanted them, but she had finally got them.
To go with her ears she wore a low cut black shirt. but accross the front of it were 3 large slits, making it look like scratch marks and around the marks was a red substance that resembeled blood. The shirt had no sleeves and the parts in which her arms came out looked like they had been ripped and so were raggety. Krissy had also put on a small black mini skirt which had pleats at the front and back. Poking out from the back of the skirt was a long thin pink mouse tail, there to match nicely with her ears. Under the skirt, stretching all the way up her legs were a pair of grey stockings, but once again delierate cuts had been put in them giving them a slightly ruffeled look.
A pair of black leather boots stretched up her legs reaching to just below her knees and she wore a pair of grey gloves, missing the fingers that stretched hald way up her arm, coming to an end just before her elbows, the end of the gloves looking ragged, to match the rest of her costume. As a final touch a few large obvious scratches and cuts had been placed up her arms, a few of which appeared to be bleeding. Her costume had taken a while to think of but, she liked it. She had choose to go as a mouse, but the idea of being half eaten, had come from Ari. Krissy thought the idea was perfect.
Krissy had made the walk up to the great hall from the Hufflepuff common room alone, she knew Pat had already left. She looked around at the outside of the hall and not seeing Pat entered through the door of the great hall, her eyes taking in the magnificent site of the great hall. It didn't matter how many halloween balls she went to the decorations always seemed to get better. Her eyes finished their scanning and fell upon the one thing she had been searching for. Pat. Who wasn't very far from the door's of the hall.
Krissy brushed a stray piece of her silver hair away from her eyes and took the few steps she needed to to reach him. A sweet smile plastered accross her face. He looked, awesome. His costume had turned out perfectely, Krissy thought it looked very cool. "Heya kitty" she said to him playfully, her currently brown eyes shining.

What a step for young Abigail. What had come over her? Or rather, what courage had filled her that she could ask a boy to the dance? The situation had presented itself very nicely what with the matching costumes and everything, but she still couldn't believe she had asked Mark D'Angelo to the Halloween Ball. Just as friends of course, and just because of the corresponding costumes.
Abigail was biting her lower lip as she reached the Entrance Hall. Though proud of her costume choice and appearance, she was still oddly nervous about meeting Mark by the Great Hall doors. What would people say? What would she say to the boy? Would they be in awkward silence the entire night? Hopefully not. The second year decided to stand a couple meters away from the doors, a bit in the shadows so as not to draw attention to herself. The sign drew her attention, however, and she stared at it half in horror and half in awe. Enter if ye dare. Wow, nothing like a warning of foreboding to draw the crowds.
Alright, the costume. A long black sleeveless dress slit on the right side to her lower thigh with scattered white polka dots and ovals spotting it. A white fake fur draped across her shoulders and arms with black spots and ovals. Long white gloves with black spots which reached her elbows and a long fake black cigarette held between her fingers (and at the moment the girl found herself twirling it like her wand). Small black heels (which she had trouble walking in and would probably take off during the Ball). The mask of that evil woman: tightly drawn skin, thin lips with blood red lipstick, deep-socketed eyes with too much eye-liner and mascara, highly arched and thin black eyebrows, and a small pointy nose. It was a special mask, of course, though it did look a little odd (an old woman's face with the second year's small frame and short stature). As soon as Abby put it on it conformed to her face and became her own. And than, to top it all off, the wonderful hair courtesy of Benita Hendrix. The Hufflepuff had heard rumours of the girl's skill and had sought her out in high hopes. The Gryffindor gal had fixed Abigail's hair perfectly. Half white, half black, sticking up in all places (mainly upwards), and complimenting her costume like no other hairdo.
Yes ladies and gents, Abigail Bennett was Cruella de Vil. Now where was her stolen puppy?

Ivy's green eyes met Mike's red ones. She grinned at him and looked up and down. "Nice costume! Er... but uh, what are you?" she asked, not trying to be mean. She shifted her weight to one side, making her appear more feminine. She twirled around for him, a bit nervous on what he'd think. "Uh, what do you think? Do you like the costume?" Ivy had initially thought she would dress up as Brittany-- but who would want to dress up as that ugly chick anyway? (no offense Brittany, this is in the perspective of Ivy. lol)

Mike smiled back, and even more as she twirled around for him, she looked absolutely amazing, from head to toe, she truely had made an amazing costume.
"Itachi, from a muggle Anime, its really cool, based on Ninjas"
He said with a nodding approval to her costume, it seemed like she had spent hours just getting ready, to look as beautiful as she did now, Mike knew she had done a good job.
"You look amazing....."
He said before becoming truely lost for words as her hair whipped across her face and she had a truely mysterious look to her

Ivy immediately destroyed the "mysterious" complex by squealing in joy and jumping into Mike's arms. She was estatic that he liked her costume-- she hoped that he would. "Good! I worked on it extra hard for you. I thought you'd like it..." she grinned at him, still holding onto him tight.
"Mike, I missed you..." she said softly, closing her eyes and taking in his warmth. It felt like ages since they talked. This week had been rather difficult and long, and she was happy to see him again.
