Sitting cross-legged on a desk, Raynor reviewed the note that Roxanne had left her once more, a small frown on her lips. At long last, her six weeks of leave were over. Thank Merlin. However, she did not like this note. The sixth years had been able to go over the basics of the unforgivables. But nothing really more in depth than their names and what each of the three does. That made todays lesson all the more difficult, but still feasible.
Unlike most lessons when the Professor was present, the desks were actually in the room. They formed a circle --- or rather a very lumpy square -- around the rectangular room, leaving a large space in the middle of the room. Such a formation was never a good sign. Not enough room for a completely practical lesson, but enough to suggest that a few demonstrations would be occurring.
Clicking her tongue, the Deputy slipped the note into a pocket. She would make this work. Now, all that was needed was her darling sixth years.

And so one would appear, but 'darling' was hardly the word to describe him today. Oh he wasn't about to go all cocky and smart-alec. Oh no, he had more sense than that but he was fuming still about the auror that seemed to have his wand up his arse patroling the fourth floor. Honestly, 'Where do you think you're going' when class had just ended. What kind of bloody question was that, where did he THINK he was going!? It was all preposterous and stupid, but yet still not surprising, they were after all still the Ministry.
Corey entered the room at a slightly brisker pace than he'd intended, almost clipping the door jam with his bag. Oh yes it was to be a long day, as he took in the scene before him he decided to instead of taking a seat, take a plot of wall as per usual, at least, until someone else besides their still ever-recovering Professor arrived. Oh yes she was teaching, but that didn't mean life still didn't hurt. Plus, he just didn't trust the setup.
Normal desk layouts meant learning. This meant, well, he didn't know what this setup was for. And quite frankly he didn't wish to find out.

Gabe Walked into the classroom looking around seeing Raynor on her desk, he nodded to her in silent greeting as he took a seat nearest the door. his gut was telling him NOT to be here that something was gonna go wrong but he came just the same. he finally spoke in his lower than normal voice almost like a growl " Mourning Professor." nothing special about how he said it, he just said it.
(If you need someone for a demonstration just call on Gabe)

Krissy wandered into the classroom. She was looknig foreward to this lesson. No more Roxeanne. The last lessons with Roxeanne had not turned out good. Krissy couldn't recall one in which she and the woman had gotten along. So she was quite very happy so have Raynor back. Krissy grinned as she walked in seeing professor Raynor and confirming her happyness. "Glad to see you back miss" she said in a happy voice to the professor.
Her eyes fell upon the setup in the room of the desks and all and she wondered what the lesson would be about Raynor had a way of making things seem interesting to Krissy so she enjoys most of Raynors lessons. Krissy spotted Corey leaning against the wall and Gabe sitting in a seat near the door. She said said a hello to Gabe as she made her way to Corey. He didn't look like he was in the best of moods. "Hullo" she said to Crey with a smile not taking a seat but insetad standing near him looking at him.

Moving quietly into the room, Arianna found a seat closest to the door and sat down. She looked quite like she had dressed in the dark. Heck, it might've been better if she HAD dressed in the dark. Her hair was pulled up into a messy bun that might not have been brushed out, one sock was clearly shorter than the other, and her shirt was half tucked into her skirt. To top it off, Arianna face was paler than usual and covered in small cuts she hadn't yet bothered to take care of.
Letting out a small sigh, Arianna turned so that she could set her feet upon the chair next to her. It wasn't very comfortable, so she pulled her feet back down, turned, and lay her head on the desk and stared at a scuff on the floor in the middle of the crowd of desks.

Mike entered the classroom with a grin on his face, finally they had Raynor back....Professor Ashford's departure was untimely....but she hadn't made the best fill in for Raynor.
"Good to see you back, Professor"
He said as he walked past her and looked at the desks, all arranged in a circle...well something that tried its best to resemble one. He looked around and saw the usual suspects Krissy, Corey and Ari, whom looked like she had gotten dressed in the dark. Suprisingly Mike didn't find the need to comment on that as he took a seat near Corey.

(I'm not sitting Mike. I'm over against the wall.)
And so, one by one more trickled in and filled seats but Corey still refused to move. And while yes, Professor Raynor was present, that didn't mean that something couldn't, or wouldn't happen. All it meant was the obvious, that Raynor was there and they were doing something.
His mood hadn't changed much with the other's arrivals, but Krissy's actual offer of greeting made the slightest of improvements. At least he'd been noticed (if it meant anything), his eyes lifted from the ground at the one word aknowledgement and looked around a moment before finding the girl near him.
"Hey." Corey countered simply, shurgging his shoulders once slightly. He doubted even this class could change his mood much. But he could hope, who knew, maybe he'd get lucky?

Ah, but this lesson probably would change Corey's mood efficiently. He would transfer from grumpy to horrified. The entire class would actually. She gave a small smile in greeting to those who welcomed her back and a murmured thank you. As the last bell rang though the school, signaling a start of the lesson, the door closed with a click.
"I believe our former Professor who kindly fillled in for me, Professor Ashford, said that you had all managed to cover the basics on the Unforgivable Curse. That they are: the Imperius Curse, the Cruciatus Curse, and the Killing Curse. One to control, one to cause pain, and one to kill. I usually preform these curses for you to see just what their effects can do, however, I fear time will not permit it. Therefore, you will have a homework assignment, an essay on the basics of the three curses, going in depth on what each ones does."
It was very brief, she did usually spend an entire lesson to drill the point she was about to make into the students heads, but time was of the essence if they were going to do what she wanted them to.
"Therefore, I only have one question for you before we begin todays material. Why are the Unforgivable Curses so unforgivable? We said that the Dark Arts is an intent, not actual magic, so how are these three curses such then?"
(( Class has started. You all know the drill. Post you're late and you're late. ))

"Oh, they only give you a life sentence to Azkaban," Arianna answered slowly and in a bored tone. She seemed to be paying more attention to the desk in front of her than to the class, but was obviously listening more than she intended, even with her fingers tracing the wood patter before her. "Something about wanting to cause harm to another being...."

Vanessa sat in the desk that was closet to the back of the room in the lumpy square, not really paying attention. The Dark Arts weren't exactly her favourite thing, and The Unforgivables weren't on her list of things to master. The last class had been bad enough just talking about them, but now there might be a demonstration? Good Merlin. Nessa knew she'd have to leave if it came to that.
Resting her head down, Vanessa tried to stay involved in the class and listen to what was going on. It was rather hard, as her heart just wasn't in it and her mind was wandering. Still, she scribbled down notes and tried to think. That attempt was quickly given up, and Nessa started to doodle.

Krissy could tell Corey wasn't in much of a mood but at least he had said hello back. Krissy flashed him a smile and made for the seat nearest to the wall where he was standing when Raynor began to speak. A grin flickered accross Krissy's face momentarily upon realising Ashford had failed at teaching them. Krissy never had liked her that much. But that was beside the point now. She listened intently to what professor Raynor was saying. The question seemed simple, but Krissy knew there was to be some trick. Raynor seemed to like getting them to think about things.
She heard Ari's answer and grinned slightly. Her friend seemed like there was a million places in the world she would rather be. But that was usually the case with Krissy. "Well it seems obvious..." Krissy said speaking up for once. "I mean of course it would be very unforegiveable to kill someone, its the same reason muggles lock people up for life if ya kill someone. Taking the life of another human ain't really cool is it now" Krissy said looking to professor Raynor.
"And the same would go for hurtin' em lots, I mean causing someone tons of pain ain't cool either, nor is taking control of them, its like..." Krissy searched for the phrase she wanted. "An invasion of one's uhhh" Yeah her train of thought was lost. Krissy stopped, she couldn't remember exactly what she had been going to say and hoped someone else would be able to put it into better words than she had.

Corey, having received neither reprimand nor commendation for standing against the wall had in turn made no move to leave his spot. He was fairly certain Raynor could tell he was at least half-way paying attention. After all, the addrenaline of anger only lasted so long before it crashed away into nothing.
"Its like anything else. The more severe the decision you make, the higher the consequence. Like Krissy said, you kill someone in the muggle world, or wizarding world for that matter, you wither get killed yeself, or locked away in some ruddy place like Azkaban for the duration. They're unforgiveable not only because of what they do, but the consequences and debris left in their wake." Corey offered, the thought of the aforementioned homework making him continueously inwardly groan.
Homework, was the devil. Or, as close to one as he could find nameable in the school.

Good Merlin, class had started. Deryn had nearly fallen asleep in the back of the room waiting for more people to come. She really had no idea what this class was going to be about, but she was excited anyways. Defense Against the Dark Arts had always been a favourite class of Deryn's, but that was all about to change at the mention of what they would be doing.
The Unforgivable Curses? No way. Deryn wouldn't be able to handle that. Not after what just happened. She had already seen the after effects of two of them, she really had no desire to see them in action. But she couldn't just get up and leave. No, she'd have to tell Raynor somehow. Deryn cursed under her breath and shifted in her seat. This was going to be a long class.

(( Sorry folks. Thanks for waiting ))
A rueful glance was sent in Arianna's direction, however, as one normally would have expected of Raynor, she did not speak out against the cheek. Could not truly, the girl was closer than the rest of them, and the actual topic of today would be a rather rude awakening for the girl.
She listened to Corey and Krissy's answers as well, each stated in their own way, each receiving a few bobs of her head in agreeance. "You both make completely valid points. Ten points to each Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. Yes, it is indeed a crime to kill some one, or try to control them, or cause them pain. But, if I recall, a stunner aimed at the chest can kill. A memory charm can control, you can make someone forget something and make them believe what you want them to. A number of hexes and curses can cause pain in grotesque manners. But none of them are Unforgivable. None of them are, in themselves, the Dark Arts. Just so, when you intend them for harm."
A long paused follow that, letting all of that sink into sixteen year old minds. On occasion Tamis lost the first or second years when she attacked a question from this angle, but the upperclassmen could usually grasp it enough to take it for what it was. Usually. Still best to give them a few minutes to breath.
"Miss Shriver is actually the closest to the right answer, so ten points to Ravenclaw as well. With the Unforgivable Curses, there is an actual intent to harm another living creature. I could have each and every one of you send the Killing Curse at me right not and not even suffer a scratch because of that one point. To commit an Unforgivable, a person has to give up everything they are into the action they are doing. To want to control that person with every fiber of their being, to relinquish in causing them pain; to enjoy killing them. To want it more than anything else. That is why they are called the Unforgivable Curses, they are truly just that. And by that intent, the Dark Arts."
Another long moment, but this time for the effect of her words. "Questions?"

Gail had spoken during the last class, but they didn't seem to be listening much then. Everyone was definitely paying attention this time, and Gail was loathe to draw it upon her. None of the students who answered Raynor's question were exactly right, but she figured Ari was close enough to avoid speaking. Apparently, Raynor agreed, awarding the fellow Ravenclaw points for her distracted answer.
Then the professor asked if there were any questions. Gail pursed her lips, knowing that the question to come could be misinterpreted. But she had to know if there was any hope.
"So, is that it? They're completely 'Unforgiveable'? You cast one, and there's no going back?"
