Kellen fidgeted uncomfortably in his chair. He was really ready for the topic to be done with, but of course it wasn't yet, and wouldn't be for the rest of the year. He wanted to move on, so he raised his hand to answer the question. "The wars with...well, You Know Who."

"During the rises of Grindelwald and Voldemort," Allegra added, knowing who Kellen meant, but feeling the need to add the other dark wizard as well. Not having grown up in Britan, she was less squeemish about saying their names than some of her classmates might be, but still, she understood the terror they inflicted.

Urgh...
Ana knew she shouldn't have stayed up so late the night before reading that dern novel. Her entire being was groggy, and she had completely missed the topic of conversation at the beginning of the class. She was vaguely aware of her presence in the room, as well as that of the professor/deputy headmistress and other students, but if asked she couldn't tell a word they were saying. For the first few moments after she lifted her head from the desktop all she saw were blurry motions and very faint mumblings.
Not until something about dark wizards came up did she even realize which class she was in. She merely nodded at the two Ravens' comments about Voldemort and Grindelwald, hoping that the short motion would at least give the impression she was paying attention and knew what was going on.

"What about anytime in the past, ya know that one phrase, when muggles and wizards didn't get along. Wouldn't we just use it on them during that time?"
Reina looked at Kellen and Allegra for them to tell her the date or the name of the time she was talking.
"Come on ya know that one time."

Sora was already asleep as the professor told him to stay up and awake in her class. He let out a small snore as he mumbled incoherently, shifting slightly in his seat.
"...Silly rabbit..." Sora mumbled, still very much deep asleep as he let out another small snore, "...Trix are for kids..."

"Of course, but we're talking about a dramatic r..." Allegra started but was cut short by the snoring Slytherin in the back. She rolled her eyes and looked at Professor raynor, wondering what the woman would do about it. How Sora had ever managed to pass any of his OWLs when he slept through every class was a mystery to her.

The Professor flinched noticeably, cringing as if struck at the use of that unspeakable name. Having grown through the end of You-Know-Who's first rise to power and the aftermath, and fought on the side of the Ministry through the second, she had reason enough to fear its use. To hear students use it so carelessly... she shuttered.
Disregarding whatever nonsense Reina was sputtering, Raynor nodded. "Yes, ten points to Ravenclaw, the rises of Grindelwald and He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named are prefect examples of--"
She cut off, the snoring of Sora Blake overcoming to classroom. The Professor's expression was unreadable, but she calmly took out her wand, pointing it at the desk that the slytherin boy was fast asleep. She had warned him countless times.
A jet of orange sparks flew out of her wand, hitting the desk, which suddenly sprang to life, trying to buck its occupant. Not hard enough to fling him and thus hurt him. But enough to be quite a rude awakening.

"Holy crap!" Sora yelled out in surprise, being rudely woken up from his very peaceful dream by Professor Raynor. The desk bucking with life, moving with abandon. It wasn't violent enough to throw him off but it simply surprised him. Drawing his wand, he waved his wand and muttered a spell, the desk finally stopping.
"I'm up, I'm up!" he exclaimed, looking sheepishly at the professor. Jabbing his wand at the pillow and saying a few choice words, the pillow turned back into his book. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he seemed much more awake then he ever was in her class.

The grogginess was slowly leaving as Ana tried to keep up with the lesson. Something about He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, and then a very familiar noise seemed to echo through the room. Aside from the mention of Trix and rabbits, it sounded quite similar to what she had most likely just been doing, and she turned her head, eyes squinting, to glance at the snoring Slytherin. He was sound asleep on top of a... she rubbed her eyes gently. A pillow? Where in the heck did he get that thing? She frowned, wondering why she wasn't given a pillow. It certainly would have made her mini-nap more comfortable than the use of her potions manual.
Apparently Professor Raynor wasn't very pleased with the boy's antics, as she promptly brought his desk to life, bucking and kicking. By Merlin, if Anabella wasn't awake before the desk started moving, she most certainly was now. Sora's outburst caught her so off-guard that she nearly toppled out of her own desk, eyes now wide as she almost hopped onto the floor. She was certain her little 'jump' was visible, and she turned back around to face the professor, a guilty half-grin on her face. "Heh..."

Daniel stuffed his knuckles to his mouth to stop the chuckle from emerging. It was yet again, too much. First Beni with Romeo and Juilet, now a desk chucking a fellow (asleep) Slytherin. This class was slowly advancing to become his favourite class, not with what they learned, but with what they did. Yet, Daniel couldn't help but think to himself, Then don't wake up so bloody early singing pirate songs...
Daniel rose an eyebrow at the girl, Ana if he remembered correctly, who had nearly fallen to the ground. Grow a spine... He thought to himself.

"Settle back down. Settle down," she told the class, which seemed caught somewhere between laughter at Sora's expense, shock, and the sudden encouragement for anyone with drooping eyelids to suddenly sit up straighter -- toppling Miss Blair completely out of her chair.
Storing her wand away, satisfied, the Professor gave a nod, though her lips did take on that all-too-familiar thinning.
"Seriously now. All of you are at the final peak of your time at Hogwarts. In another year all of you -- hopefully -- will be among the wizarding community, even more hopefully with a career. You are studying for your N.E.W.T.s, which most certainly will determine how far up the ladder of success you go! None of you can afford to be falling asleep, especially not in my class."
It was not precisely a speech, it was more or less a warning. What ever it was, the Professor had apparently addressed her point and was prepared to move on.
"Now, the rise of Grindelwald and the two rises You-Know-Who, ten points to Ravenclaw on behalf of Mr. McCrea and Miss Thornton. Does anyone have any inkling as to why either of these wizards names are well known throughout history?"
((EDIT: My aplogies. Wrote this post right as I was attempting to get out the door. To say the least, I rushed the ending. Her question has been edited. Apologies to those who have already replied. ))

Daniel just sunk lazily into his chair upon hearing more of Raynor's voice, for he wasn't the best at Defence Against the Dark Arts, and he had to say, that Beauxbatons wasn't as high-standard in this course, and even though doing well on his exam, they were probably learning what they did in forth year.
Daniel looked at the teacher before at the two Ravenclaws. Goody-goody-too-shoes. The whole lot of Ravenclaws. Daniel was in poor spirits, again.

"None of you can afford to be falling asleep, especially not in my class."
She lowered her eyes, thinking that the professor was likely hinting to her. The woman had no doubt seen Ana once she awoke, not to mention when she was asleep to begin with. Of course, with the Slytherin previously snoring in the back, the sixth year supposed the comment could have been directed at him as well.
She would have rolled her eyes at Professor Raynor's comment, had she not been one of the ones dozing previously in the lesson. At least now she had more of an idea of what they were talking about, even though she still wasn't completely sure as to the point of discussing Grindelwald and You-Know-Who.
"Does anyone have inkling as to either on of them?"
What about them? Ana wanted to blurt out, but decided that may have not been the best of ideas at the current moment. At least she wouldn't need to say "one of who?" She stared blankly down at her potions manual in front of her, not like it was doing a whole lot of good for her in Defense Against the Dark Arts.

Rael had been listening intently to the Professor. However, Defense Against the Dark Arts had never been one of her strong points. She suppressed a laugh at Sora's rude awakening, and Ana's jump. When Professor Raynor continued, she gave her full attention back to her. She knew about the rises of Grindelwald and You-Know-Who, and how they had both used the unforgivable curses, but what more did the Professor really want from the students?
She know the curses were used on wizards and muggles alike, and they were also used almost carelessly, but she wasn't sure if she just hadn't paid as close attention as she thought and had missed something pertinent to the discussion, or if she had just completely missed the point the professor was making.

Reina shrugged. She wasn't sure, but she liked class even though the beginning always started like a HoM instead of just action action action.
"Because Who know who, ya know that one cat, Voldermort and that other guy were both offing people. They were evil and quite brilliant at the same time."
