The calendars? Now that was some wierd stuff. "Calendars, calendars, calenders..." Matthias murmured as he thought. "Well, there were the 2 calendars, right? The Haab and the Tzolk'in, I think. The Tzolk'in was the 260 day one..." He trailed off, trying to remember more. "They used that for their divination and stuff, I think..." Jeez, she did have to pick the hard stuff, didn't she? "Ok, and the solar calendar was Haab," he said, picking up where he'd left off. "And the 5 unlucky days were Wayeb. They were unlucky because the Mayans thought that's when the barriers between the normal world and the supernatural one broke down." He ran his fingers through his hair. "That explain things well enough for you?" he asked Kay. With any luck, it had.

"Yeah. I probably should have paid more attention in class, but I never seem to be able to take as good of notes in Runes as I can usually do in History of Magic. My mind just seems to start wandering about five minutes into the class, and then I end up having to teach myself from the books later on," Kay replied. History of Magic could be considered Kay's forte, if she even had a forte, but that is just because Kay found history to be so interesting, and thus she could memorize it quite easily.
"Thanks for helping me though Matthias, that was really everything that I was confused on, and the books were not really helping any," Kay said with a warm smile as she turned to look at the boy who helped her out.

Matthias matched her smile, though he was somewhat distracted by what else he had to study. "Yeah, no problem," he said absentmindedly. Where could he find books about History of Magic? They were over to the left, right? Wait...had Kay said something about good History notes? Maybe she could help him study! Heck, she might have a better idea what was going on than he did! He was about to ask for help when he realized something. He'd never seen her in class. Add to that the fact that she was a year behind him in Ancient Runes and it was likely she was a year behind him in History of Magic, too.
Deciding it was best to just take his leave now and go study on his own, Matthias stood. "Well, it was nice to meet you and all, and I'm glad to have been of help," he said as he took a step back.

"It was nice to meet you too, and if you ever need a favor, just ask. You really were a big help, Matthias," Kay said. She was somewhat sad to see Matthias leave, but she was sure he had his own studying to do, and probably did not want to be interrupted by silly questions asked by a girl a year younger than him. She smiled again at the boy before she turned back to her Ancient Runes notes, which Kay desperately needed to double check to make sure that her own conclusions about the runes were right compared to what the teacher had said. It would not be good if she failed at one of her electives, and it really was necessary for her to learn.

Matthias was a little surprised to find that he'd almost wanted Kay to have another question, but he shook it off. Mentally, of course. "It was my pleasure," he replied as he took another step back. "Perhaps we'll meet up again sometime," he added, though his tone made it sound less like an uncertainty and more like a suggestion. With that, he turned and began walking away, trying to remember where the History of Magic section was. Maybe it wasn't to the left...maybe he'd just have to come back another time. He probly wouldn't be able to study now, anyways. His concentration had been interrupted.

It wasn't until Matthias walked off in search of whatever it was that he was looking for that Kay regretted not asking some more questions. She really didn't need to ask them, but it would have been nice to just have sat and chatted with him for awhile. Sighing, Kay took off the hair band that was around her wrist, worked swiftly to pull all of her hair back into a pony-tail, secured it with the hair tie, and picked up her quill so she could start going over those blasted runes again. Pulling her notes closer, she started rewriting the runes and their corresponding English equivalents on a new sheet of parchment.
