"I... I think they're close enough," Drew answered, not bothering to hide his nervousness at the suggestion. He didn't have a problem with keeping Ari company, but pushing the beds together came very close to a level of appropriateness that he didn't want to cross.

"They're like...eight feet apart, though," Arianna complained, only slightly exaggerating. She had thought it might present a problem. "I was only talking a couple of feet. Not touching, of course. At least a body's width apart."

By Drew's estimation, the beds weren't even half that distance apart. "I think they're fine," he frowned back, not moving from the bed he sat on. If she was going to push it, he'd be forced to leave. Keeping Alhana's trust was more important to him than keeping Arianna company for the night.

Arianna frowned, but said nothing more. Instead, she plopped down on a bed and pulled her blanket up over her shoulders. She didn't understand Drew sometimes. They weren't sharing a bed, that much was obvious. But why would she have to speak over that wide gap between the beds to talk with him?

"Good night..." Drew said, just a touch of sarcasm in his voice. He knew she was mad, but honestly didn't see the point of moving the beds any closer. It wasn't like they were on opposite ends of the room.

"Right," Arianna mumbled. She didn't care that the nurse might still be in the room overhearing the whole thing. "Are you going to ask for the curtains, too?"

"No..." Drew answered softly, biting his lip and thinking things through very carefully. He had done this as a favor to Ari and hadn't thought it would cause such a problem. He slowly gathered his things together and stood up. "I think I'll just go back to the boy's dorm. Maybe this wasn't such a great idea after all."

Now it was Arianna's turn to bite her lip. She didn't want him to go. What if she needed him? But if he really wanted to...
"Okay," she sniffed and lay back on the bed, pulling the blanket over her head. "Goodnight."

"Good night, Mrs. Johnson," Drew told the nurse sullenly. He wasn't quite sure how the night had turned from joking about dragon slippers and bedtime stories to this, but he didn't want to stay anymore.
"Good night Ari. I'll see you in the morning, okay? I hope you feel better," he said softly as he made his way to the door.

"Good night Drew," Selena said quietly. It hurt her a bit to see friends fighting. Friends were supposed to take care of each other no matter what. Or at least that was how she saw things. "Good night Ari," she told her quietly, though she didn't think Ari would be having a very good night.

Arianna sniffed back. No. She wouldn't have a good night. It was bad enough that she had spent the whole day worrying about whatever would happen (would she turn into a lizard and never be able to turn back?) and now she had the spend the night alone.
"I'm scared," she muttered quietly to the nurse, not sure if Drew could hear her or not, but hoping he could at least sense that she hadn't meant to upset him.

"You want me to stay with you for a bit dear?" Selena asked her quietly. She was transported to a hot summer's night, remembering her younger sister. "'Lena, I'm scared." "Shh, it'll be alright 'Brina. It was a nightmare, that's all. Go back to sleep." Sabrina turned over and closed her eyes. Selena sang quietly to her. She shook her head and then looked over at Ari.

"No," Arianna replied, her voice choked. It was silly, being afraid as she was. After going through these changes several times in the past week you would think she'd be used to it. But she wasn't. And not knowing how long it would go on or if they could even fix it was more than the girl could handle, but she didn't want someone she hardly knew to stand guard and was hurt that Drew had left her so easily. As though it didn't matter.

"Alright then dear," Selena said. "I'll be in my room if you need anything. Don't hesitate to come get me, because I'll be glad to help. Sleep well," She went over to her room, opened the door and stepped inside, turning on the light before she closed the door.

Once the lights were out, Arianna felt even worse. She didn't know how long she had laid there worrying about everything, but it eventually got to be too much for her. She wasn't going to call for the nurse, though. Instead, she pulled out her little pendant and held it tight in her hand.
Drew? She thought, hoping Drew wasn't already asleep. I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to make you leave. You don't have to come back down, but would you mind talking to me for a little while?
