The Huffle gave a tenuous nod to, (if he did say so himself) a pulchrifudinus fellow Huffie. How Mark actually managed the next three words was beyond his steadily ggrowing erudition, "Never felt better." Mark chirped with simplicity, still looking at the petite girl. People in general (and some of the house elves) didn't normally talk to him as an equal, and this occurance was both rare, yet that sense of longing went through his being. He actually gave his small yet infectious grin at this.
Mark looked up at the teacher as she did the charm. Charms. His worst subject by far. No way would Mark with his lack of self-confidence and lack of ability with Charms would volunteer for such a charm.

Roxanne smiled at all of the first years who wanted to volunteer, and nodded to each. "Don't worry! I promise that everyone will get a chance to go."
Roxy was still smiling, she had been so happy when she saw that many wanted to volunteer. Most of the other kids she had taught before had been terrified of volunteering, and she was glad to see so much interest in the charms. Though simple, they were effective and had proven useful to her many times throughout her youth and even as an adult, though there were more advanced and complicated ones for her level.
"Mister Sindacco..." she smiled, nodding to the Slytherin who's hand she had seen up first.
"Now, I want you to come up here, stand right about where I am, pointing your wand at the lock. Sternly cast the 'Alohomora' charm, focusing on the lock...wanting it to unlock. Do you think you can do that?"
As Roxanne stepped aside, she awaited to see if the Slytherin could sucessfully cast the charm on a first try.
"Make sure to pronounce it correctly...Alohomora" she reminded, as she continued to watch.

Declan pulled his hand down quickly when the professor called on the Slytherin boy. He sat back and pouted. He wanted to be the first one to go, and hoped the Slytherin wouldn't be able to do the charm. Declan knew he could do it, having done it a few times before at home. Although those times at home had resulted in letters from the Ministry, Declan was at school now, and use magic without getting in trouble.
He sat back, waiting impatiently for the boy to try the charm. Declan got out his own wand and examined it. He put it down on the table, so he wouldn't make anything explode, but muttered Alohomora over and over in his head, making sure he could say it right.

Abigail returned the grin before turning back around to watch the professor and her performance of the charm. Charms being one of her best subjects and favorite classes, Abby paid close attention to the casting and pronunciation of the spell itself. She swished her wand back and forth a couple times while mouthing, "Alohomora". Setting her wand down on her lap, the Huffle returned her attention to Professor Ashford and the Slytherin who volunteered.

Jakob had seen the Gryffindor boy raise his hand with as much enthusiasm as Jakob had, if not more. Yet, to Jakob's relief, Professor Ashford had called upon Jakob. His hand lowered itself to his desk as he gently pressed against the desk to propel his upper half forward in one effortless movement. Jakob's left hand grasped his wand upon his desk and walked forward to his Charms Professor.
Jakob looked back at the Gryffindor boy and shot him a quick, triumphant grin before scanning the rest of the class. He watched Professor Ashford as she talked to him. When she asked him if he could do it, Jakob paused and then nodded his head in affirmative.
Jakob cleared his throat as he pointed his wand, held in his left hand, at the lock. He began to see a vague similarity between this class and Transfiguration. One always had to visualize what they wanted to do. Jakob began to visualize himself unlocking the lock. He wanted to prove himself worthy of praise and respect; especially to his father.
Alohomora. Alohomora, emphasize the 'mora', Jakob recited to himself. He cleared his throat once more before saying, "Alohomora," he said, visualizing the lock unlocking. Jakob felt the magic surging through his veins as, much to his surprise, he witnessed the lock unlocking before his very eyes. His look of surprise was wiped away swiftly as he maintained a mature composure and looked calmly, almost apathetically, to Professor Ashford.

As usual, Taryn was scrawling down rather scattered notes, only marking down important points and never using complete sentences. But when it came to trying to write down the spells that they were going to use, the Ravenclaw was at a complete loss. She scratched out several attempts that she was sure weren't right, because she wasn't going to look it up in the middle of class. Look up spell--ings! was the next thing she jotted down, quite pleased with her own sense of humor.
Despite her best intentions, she was hoping that the Slytherin boy wouldn't succeed in unlocking the door. He was the one who had killed the little centipede in Herbology, all because that one girl had been afraid of it. What a jerk. But he did, and Taryn was left repeating the incantation in her mind and trying to make sure that she would get it right, too. Charms was one of her better subjects, so she didn't want to look like an idiot and fail.

Samuel listened and watch the instructions. Wow, he never seen a better subject yet. Prof. Ashford wanted volunteers', but seeing others had raised his hand, he suddenly jotted his hand too, but the professor said everyone will go, so he put his hand down and waited. He thought he was really going to like this subject, but he already loves it.

A small smile appeared on Michea's face as she watched her Housemate successfully perform the charm to unlock the door. She'd caught his quickly covered look of surprise and felt a rush of amusement. She knew she'd probably react the same way, it was just a bit funny seeing the look on someone else. She was impressed at how quickly he recovered his composure though.
Michea made a note on her parchment on how to stress the syllables of the word, though it was a bit difficult considering the different accents. She double-checked in her book to be sure she'd noted them correctly and nodded slightly when she saw that she had. She repeated the incantation to herself, replaying the wand movements in her mind as she did so, in preparation for her own turn to try the spell.

Niyah wrote down a few notes hear and there, but she was quite impressed by how easily the boy had unlocked door. And one his first try too. "Wow," she mouthed. She would have never been able to do that. Or at least not on the first try. She saw the composed look on his face as well, and was even more impressed. She would have been surprised, excited, and ready to do it again.

Koren was glad the Jakob had opened the door. The fact that he opened it on the first try made her take even more pride in being a Slytherin. Personally, she knew the spell. Actually, she knew both of them. When her cooked looked the pantry she had to find some kind of a way in. Also she had to lock her house elves out her room from time to time.
It took her a whole month to get them both perfect. Now she could use them whenever she wanted. The cook still didn't have a clue. Koren smiled and turned her thoughts back to the lesson at hand.

Her notes were few and far between, as, was her attention span. Sure, she'd been mentally saying the spells all this time, butt he whole volunteer situation had gone right over her head. Which was probably for the better, as she'd have ended up making a fool of herself anyway.
She already wasn't the best at Charms, there was just too much pressure for her to actually do anything, so, quiet as a mouse she would be.
