Deryn's heart skipped a beat when she felt William's hand touch hers. A tingle started in her fingertips and work it's way all through her body. She bit her lip, and looked away, trying not to squeal, which was not something she did all the time, but the current situation was definitely squeal-worthy.
Her face turning the all too familiar pink, Deryn glanced sideways at William and smiled. He was still looking away, so she figured it was her chance to steal a glance at him. A wide grin spread across Deryn's face. She pulled her hand out from under his and put hers on top, stroking it.

William's head snapped back when Deryn moved her hand. At first, he thought it was because she was uncomfortable, and he was about to back off, when she put her on top of his. He looked up and met her eyes, smiling his goofy smile. There was nothing that needed to be said at that moment. It was all said with just a look. There was indeed some sort of chemistry brewing between them, and it wouldn't take a Potions Master to sense the cauldron starting to boil.

At first, Deryn wanted to pull her eyes away as he turned back, until she actually met with his. She returned the look to William, and smiled, still touching his hand. But then she stopped to think. What am I doing? she thought, and more importantly, what's Sonja gonna say about all this? For some strange reason, Deryn suddenly cared a lot about what her wretched soon to be step-sister had to say. Deryn pulled her hand away and stood up, brushing herself off.

A wave of panic crashed over William. What had he done? "Are you ok, Deryn?" he asked, standing up too. He put his hand on her shoulder and tried to turn her around. "Did I do something wrong?" he asking sincerely. Great job McKellar. You never know when to stop, do you? he scolded himself.

"No no no, it's not you," Deryn reassured him, smiling, "It's me...I really do have a lot of work to uh...do. I'll umm....I'll see you around, ok?" she said, turning to leave. She closed her eyes and let out a sigh. She couldn't believe what she was walking away from, but she really couldn't deal with a relationship like that. Not right now. She touched his hand on her shoulder and smiled again. "I'll see you later," she chuckled, winking. Starting off down the hall, Deryn bit her lip again, stifling another squeal. What had gotten into her?

William watched as the beautiful Deryn walked away. He raised his hand and waved like an idiot when she turned around and spoke again. William couldn't help but smile, and he shoved his hands deeper into his pockets, feeling the pick which made him smile more. He scratched the back of his head and sighed. Leaning against the wall again he slid back down before he fell over. Not a bad beginning to life at Hogwarts, William thought, sighing. Not a bad beginning at all.

Charon rounded the corner at the other end of the hall from where the girl was heading. He saw the boy sitting on the floor, with a large smile on his face. Noticing the color of both people's robes he grinned and walked up to the boy.
"Looks like I'm not the only Ravenboy to get lucky with a Gryffindor, eh?" he asked jokingly. He squatted down next to the boy and waited for some sort of response. Of course, he wasn't sure he'd like an unknown person walking up to him and asking about his current love life. At least, not without having some idea of their name first. So he decided to give his. "M'name's Charon, by the way," he said.

William looked up and chuckled when he saw another Ravenclaw boy coming around the corner. "Yeah, I guess so," he said, looking at the boy. He introduced himself as Charon. He seemed nice enough and William was glad that it had been a boy his age that had found him. "I'm William, but just call me Will," William replied to Charon, sticking out his hand for a shake.

Charon stared at the hand for a second. He regarded hand-shaking as an admission of trust on his part. Mostly because if he was shaking a person's hand, he didn't have his free to defend himself if need be. Of course, it wasn't likely that someone at this school would attack him on sight, at least not before they knew him better. So he took the offered hand and said, "Nice to meet you, Will."
He sat down next to Will and asked, "So who was she, then?" He didn't know many students in the school, so knowing the girl's name wouldn't help him much.

"Miss Deryn Morgan," he replied, the grin not leaving his lips. William was still looking down the hall in the direction Deryn had gone, although she was long gone by now. He sighed, day dreaming about her. Snapping back to reality, she looked at Charon and asked a question. "Do you know her?" he asked.

Neither the name nor the back of the robes he'd seen rang a bell for Charon. "No, sorry," he answered. "I can't say that I've had the pleasure of making her acquaintance. Of course, I tend not to try to meet new people. It just randomly happens," he said.
Watching Will reminded Charon of how he felt whenever he was around Rael. She let him feel as though he had no cares at all, and that nothing else going on really mattered. Until someting horribly painful brought him back to reality, that was. But luckily, that had only happened a few times so far.

"Pity," he said, "All the more for me I guess." He chuckled at his own little lame joke. Deryn, Deryn, Deryn. That was all William could think about. He had no idea how he had fallen so fast for her. He was pretty sure she felt the same. Maybe it had scared her, and that was why she left. Either way, William was still think about her.
Remembering what Charon had said before, about how it looked like he wasn't the only one who got lucky with a Gryffindor, William changed back to that subject. "So who's the lucky Gryff who's won over your heart, mate?" he asked, looking at Charon.

Charon smiled. "A lovely lady named Rael. A lady who brings nothing but joy, laughter, and the occasional bruise," he said. The bruise thing was really more his fault than Rael's; he just seemed to be a bit more clumsy in her presence.
"Though I think I may be the one who got the better end of that deal, eh?" he said, laughing. He said it as a joke, but he was serious. It wasn't every girl that made him feel the way she did, and it definitely wasn't every girl that wanted to be with him like she did.

William laughed at Charon's reply. "Seems like we're on the same page about these Gryffindor girls," he said, winking. The fifth floor now seemed entirely deserted except for the two Ravenclaw boys, sitting in the corridor, talking about Gryffindor girls. Noticing this, William looked around and frowned. "it's a wee bit quiet 'round here, isn't it?" he said, not really asking, but more making a statement. Things were indeed boring now that Deryn had left, but it was nice for William to be with another Ravenclaw boy now.

Charon listened to the silence before answering. "Oh, aye, it is. But that doesn't mean much besides the fact that no one feels like hanging around this floor," he said. An evil grin covered his face. "Though there are ways to fix that problem, most of which are banned by a certain list," he added. Too bad he didn't own any such items, much less have them on him. But he did know what he did own that could make a bit of noise.
Concentrating hard, he tried to remember a spell he'd heard not too long ago. It came to mind after a few moments, and he muttered, "Accio drumsticks." If it worked, things would cease to be so quiet fairly quickly.
