Cole saw Delilah slowing to a stop. He continued to slow down by her side. As they came to a stop however Cole tripped and fell flat on his face.Great...just great now I look like a moron Cole thought. He rolled over and looked up to realize that Delilah was looking at the stars. He got up quietly and hear her say in a beautiful voice "So, you wanna lead the way? I seem to be going no where." Cole's heart skipped a beat when he realized that she was looking to him as a leader. Even if it was planned out like that he was still shocked that somebody so amazing would allow him to lead them. It seemed the better Cole got to know Delilah the more there was left undiscovered; this just made Cole want to stick around and keep uncovering new things about this young lady. Cole felt so close to her even though he had really only begun to uncover all of the wonderful things about her. He had been looking in her eyes when she had spoken and as she was speaking he saw a twinkle in here eye and a smile on her face. He had never seen her this happy appearing before and he couldn't think anything aside from She is so beautiful...
Cole's face was a complete smile while he thought about the question she had asked him. He calmly replied "Well Delilah...I could lead the way...are you sure your ready to see it though? I just want you to know I go there to think and contemplate things...just know it is a haven for me, but it is a haven where you are always welcome to be." Cole's face turned into a playful smile and he quickly grabbed Delilah's hand and gave it a little tug as if to say follow me. "Here we go!" Cole said enthusiastically. He began to walk hoping that Delilah would come with him and follow.

The fact that Cole had a spill, didn't bother Delilah, and she knew from personal experience that it would be a courtesy to him, not to mention it. Delilah of course pretended not to notice him fall, and continue to look at the sky. She was still wondering though, if he was going to lead or not.
Delilah grinned at his playful banter and didn't say a word, she thought her next few actions would say it all. She trusted him, and always wanted to be where he was, and as he grabbed onto her hand, she gave it a squeeze and refused to let it go. Delilah let out a bright laugh as he lead the way, and she hoped he wasn't feeling awkward. She was quite excited, and very eager to see the special spot where Cole Bartlet spent his time.

Cole's heart began to race when Delilah held fast onto his hand. He figured that she would hold onto it until they got to his place or maybe until he brought her home again. The thought alone made Cole all the more happy and light feeling. "So do you have a place where you go to think?" Cole asked Delilah gently. He gave her hand a light squeeze as they walked through the moonlit streets. Cole knew exactly where they were and realized that they would have to turn down a side street very soon.
Cole saw the side street and turned down it holding Delilah's hand tight. He gave it a little squeeze and said "Just keep following me...it may seem like we are lost but I know exactly where we are." I can honestly say that there is nobody else I would ever want to share this with or even the details of my life with like this.... Cole thought. He stopped walking for a second and brushed the hair out of his face with his free hand. He turned to Delilah with a smile and asked her playfully "Do you trust me?" How Cole hoped her answer would be yes. I feel something so amazing for her and I can't even begin to describe it... Cole thought. He squeezed Delilah's hand tight and held that grip until she answered him.

Her hand was in his... Delilah just couldn't shake that unshakable feeling of warmth that was enveloping her. She was in pure bliss, somewhere she hadn't been in such a long time. Cole brought out a certain happiness in her that Delilah felt only he ever could. "So do you have a place where you go to think?" Delilah shook her head, "No, nothing really special..." She started, "I just dwell on my thoughts in any quiet spot really..." She finished. She had a lot of privacy, living in a mansion and all, there were always empty rooms about. However, it wasn't as though her parents were rowdy people, so it wasn't difficult for her to feel at peace where ever she was.
Delilah beamed when Cole squeezed her hand. He was being so delicate, and not acting like a creep, so she decided to keep her hand there for now, and see where things went. She didn't mind having her hand in his, and he sure didn't seem to mind. Delilah smiled up at him, "I trust you..." She said, letting her words linger. She did trust him, with everything she had. No, she didn't know him terribly well, but she could tell that he was building himself a place in her heart... and only trust could be had.
The small girl almost walked into Cole when he stopped suddenly to fix his hair...? Delilah wondered why he stopped to do this. She chuckled when he asked her if she trusted him or not. Perhaps he didn't hear her... "I do trust you Cole Bartlet." She said. And although his words were playful, hers, were not. They were sincere, and she hoped that Cole wouldn't be too thick not to see that.

Cole's face broke into a rather large grin when Delilh told him so sincerely that she trusted him. He knew she couldn't be lying when she spoke to him in the tone she had. There wasn't a single bit of a lie in what she said and Cole knew it. He turned to Delilah with a smile still plastered on his face and said "Thanks for being honest, I know your telling me the truth and I don't need to look into your eyes to know that...nobody has ever been that real and sincere and down to earth with me when I ask something like that so what I want to tell you is thank you and I trust you too." Cole tilted his head to look Delilah straight in the eyes and found himself becoming lost in them a lot faster than he had anticipated. Those eyes are so beautiful...I could stare at them for hours and it would never be enough... Cole thought.
Cole had a really hard time taking his eyes off of Delilah's but he finally managed to tear himself away from them so that he could show her a little bit more of who he was. Cole cleared his throat and said "It's a little bit farther but we are almost there... are you ready to see?" He brushed the hair out of his face with his free hand and smiled at Delilah. Cole began to walk again and took her to the back of a older building with a steel ladder on the back. "It's up the ladder." Cole said with a smile. I don't want to let go of her hand... Cole thought. Cole just stood there hoping that Delilah would like the view.
Something about this whole night just seemed unreal. Cole had never had a single moment in his life where he had been this happy aside from this night. Delilah seemed to make him feel filled in a way that nobody else ever had. He continued to look at her and dwell on the feeling of her hand in his. Cole wasn't sure if there was much that could possibly top this night. He would just have to live his life and see what else it brought. Hopefully many more moments like this with Delilah.

What did he mean he didn't have to look into her eyes? Did he know... did he know that people could read her like a book if they could read her eyes? Man, he was getting to know her well... perhaps a little too well. "Well you're quite welcome, it's easy to trust someone like you." She said, still holding a smile, and hoping that her no-lie eyes wouldn't yield to what she had been previously thinking.
Delilah nodded, "I'm more than ready to see this place of yours Cole." She said, watching him subconsciously brush the hair out of his face yet again. She thought it was cute, and continued to listen to him and grip his hand gently. They soon came across an older looking building, and she hoped that this ladder would support them. "So ladies first or what?" Delilah asked him, grinning, knowing that the view would be amazing from where they would soon be standing... it reminded her of flying. Oh how she missed flying...
Delilah wondered if he'd ever flown before... She decided she'd have to introduce him to the Thestral and give him a ride, something she would never share with anyone else.

Cole was grinning like a idiot by now. Thats all he could think of the whole time Delilah spoke.I'm such a flipping idiot...I can't believe she is still around me... Cole thought. As he digested Delilah's words he couldn't help but feel a little more puffed up than he usually did. This girl managed to make him think the most he possibly could of himself. Cole couldn't help but feel happy knowing whose hand he was holding. He gave it a gentle squeeze just to remind her that he was there. "I'm glad you find it easy to trust me...nobody really has before this...and yeah...your the only one I have ever let this far into my life." Cole said softly. He looked deeply into Delilah's eyes, and he knew if she was looking back she would see exactly how he felt. Thinking about that didn't scare him at all and he knew that she would understand.
As the came up to the building Cole had made his real home they stopped by the ladder. "Welcome to my home...your the only guest I have ever had...and yeah...well, I never really intended on sharing this place with everyone...but you put me at ease and I honestly feel you deserve to be here." Cole said to Delilah. He heard her ask "So ladies first or what?" Cole replied simply "But of course...what kind of gentleman doesn't allow a princess to go first?"
Cole could already imagine the scene on the rooftop. He couldn't help but look forward to take in the moonlight and the stars with the beautiful girl at his side. He could imagine just sitting beside her; his feet dangling off of the side of the roof and just talking about life and all the things he had gone through. He could imagine looking her in the eyes and listening to everything on her mind. Nothing that Cole could possibly face in this life seemed like it mattered at all when he was with this girl. All he could think about were the moments that he could share with her that he knew he couldn't with anybody else.

As Cole explained to Delilah that no one had ever been able to trust him before, because he never let anyone in that far into his life, she couldn't help but feel special, as she often did around this boy. A huge smile was growing across her face as she stared up into Cole's eyes, and he was intently looking at her too, as though allowing her a peek into his mind, and to her, it was quite clear what he was thinking. Had Cole been looking deep enough as well, he would know that returned his feelings, she was just shy about the whole idea of feeling about him as though he were her... well, boyfriend. Once her mind put two and two together, about how his thoughts matched hers, she blushed madly, and finally, unwillingly, let go of the warm hands grasping her unnaturally cold hands.
Delilah looked up at the ladder they were just under and grinned, "Gracias Sir." She said, doing a courtesy, bowing her head, only to lift it back up in the same position she was in, so her line of view portrayed Cole even taller than normal. She stood up straight now, and looked up at the ladder. "I'm glad I put you at ease." She said, looking at him with a smile, then back to the ladder. She sighed, and crossed her arms suddenly, apparently frustrated, "Would you be willing to uh..." Delilah started, pointing up at the ladder that was out of her reach, "You know? Pull down the ladder for this... heh, princess." She said, allowing a small smirk spread across her lips. Did he really see her as a princess? Sometimes she wondered if Cole Bartlet was too good to be true. How could someone with such a hard exterior be this sweet? She couldn't even begin to judge anyone with a mask though, because she had one too, and she understood why you need one sometimes. But with Cole, no mask seemed strong enough from preventing entrance into Miss Delilah Morine's heart.
Delilah wondered if Cole could guess that she loved stars, she always had. Perhaps he would learn in a short bit. Delilah was excited to take everything in with Cole, and also she was excited to get to know him even better... She couldn't wait.

Cole reluctantly let go of Delilah's hand as she withdrew it. He knew he had been keeping it warm because it had felt horrible cool in his large palm. There was nothing keeping him from grabbing her hand again, but he had far to much respect for this young woman to do that. He knew it for a fact and he really hoped that she did to. All that Cole could think about was possibly writing a song about this beautiful night. He wasn't about to start making lyrics now, but he definetly intended to do so later when the mood really hit him. There was nothing he had ever found more inspirational than Delilah. As strange and foreign that concept seemed to him it also made perfect sense in its own special way. She's already made herself a place in my heart...and she keeps on building it bigger... Cole thought. There was no way that anybody else had ever entered this fast or this forcefully into his heart. She seemed to just go in and make his heart grow as her place in it grew.
As Delilah curtsied Cole couldn't help but think about how cute she was. When she lifted her head to see him he couldn't help but turn a light red. She just looked so adorable in the light. She looks so adorable...not just now, but always... Cole thought. How he loved to talk to her. As she replied that she was glad that she put him at ease Cole caught a tone in her voice that seemed truly genuine to him. He could tell that Delilah truly and fully cared about him, and it was something that took his breath away. He watched her point at the ladder and ask for his help. Cole replied with a warm smile and said "I would be glad too m'lady." Cole was so glad that tonight he had his chance to treat her as he thought she deserved to be.
Cole reached up and grabbed the ladder. He pulled but it was stuck. He gave it a quick jerk but it didn't move. He furrowed his eyebrows and stared at it for a couple of seconds. Finally Cole reached up and down on it with all of his strength. The ladder gave way and came down. He quickly stopped it before it slammed onto the ground by reversing his pull. The ladder came to a stop just as quickly as it had been moving. Cole slowly lowered it down the rest of the way to the ground and lightly placed it there. He looked over to Delilah and with a chuckle said "Looks like it was stuck a little....you can go on up now if that's what you would like to do, I know I'm looking forward to showing you my place." Cole tossed his hair out of his face by throwing his head back for a second and then continued to look at Delilah. She practically glows in this light...not a unreal glow, but a beautiful soft angelic glow... Cole thought. Once again his thoughts came out of his mouth without him knowing. Something he really needed to learn was to keep his thoughts in his head.
How Cole hoped that Delilah was going to appreciate his little place in the world where nobody else ever went. The only reason Cole ever found out about this place was because when he was a kid he was hanging out with some of the older kids and they were throwing rocks at windows of abandoned buildings. Cole left the group and went exploring, and that's when he found this building; being younger he was naturally more adventurous than most adults and he found the ladder. He climbed it and sat on the rooftop for the rest of the day just watching the world pass him by. That was the first time he had really looked at the stars. He fell in love with the sky that night, and that love never once disappeared from his heart.

The small, shivering girl, could tell just how reluctant Cole was to let go of her hand. She didn't blame him though, she wished she could keep holding it, but she thought anything past what they had already done, would be awkward for two people calling each other friends... for now anyways. Delilah grinned as Cole played along with his mideivel role, and waited patiently for him to pull down the ladder.
It would seem that she wasn't the only one that had bad luck. As Cole tried to take the ladder down, it gave him a hard time. Delilah covered her mouth, trying hard not to laugh. She was just about to give him a had, how she didn't know, but she wanted to help. But as she approached him, the ladder suddenly came plumeting down, and Delilah threw her arms up in protection. Delilah breathed hard and peeked out from her arms, hoping Cole was ok, and he was, and he was also triumphant in getting the ladder down.
She let out a sigh of relief and smiled after he announced that he was proud to be showing her his secret spot. As Delilah approached the ladder, she spotted him doing his little hair flip again, and she couldn't help but smile. She stood on the first step, and turned to look at him, now she was almost his height. Her next move, she couldn't help... She reached out a hand, pointer finger stretched out, and lightly bopped his nose in a cute gesture sort of way. She smiled, "I'm glad you brought me here." She said, after a couple seconds of just staring at him. Finally, she turned back around, and ascended the stairs.
She did so carefully. While she was most graceful on a broom, this was no broom, and the thing was rickety as it was. She didn't trust it, or herself. She could only hope that she wouldn't be falling tonight, or making a fool of herself, and she also hoped that she didn't look too insecure. Suddenly, she heard Cole say something below. "...beautiful soft angelic glow." She furrowed her brows, looking around wondering what the hell he was talking about. "What did you say?" She asked, looking back down where Cole was still standing. The ladder swayed in the moonlight, not anything too drastic, but that's how the ladders usually were on old buildings. Maybe she hadn't heard him right, what with the wind and all.

Cole thought he heard Delilah stifling a laugh behind him while he ripped down the ladder but he wasn't sure. He didn't particularly blame Delilah for laughing if she was, he probably looked pretty ridiculous right now. Just glad I didn't fall on my butt.... Cole thought. He turned and saw Delilah peeking at him from behind her arms and his face instantly turned a light shade of red. Cole could tell she actually cared about him, and that made him feel absolutly amazing about himself. "I'm okay!" He said in a joyous tone. Cole couldn't have felt much better at this point in time if he really thought about it. Being with Delilah just pumped him up, and there really was no better way to explain it. Seeing her made him excited, showing her things made him want to run and jump and be himself as best he could. Cole was crazy about her and he had no idea.
Cole watched intently as Delilah began to climb the ladder. She made her way up in such a way that could only be described as graceful. Cole could imagine her as a dancer, with a delicate sense of balance. He wondered where she learned to do everything with such grace. Before Cole knew what was happening Delilah had turned to face him on the ladder. He didn't know what to say because the very next second he saw her lift her arm and felt her finger lightly tap his nose. Nobody in all of my life has ever been this cute...wow...I just wish I could say it... Cole thought. He loved how her touch felt, and how it seemed like a innocent girl gently flirting with him. Cole turned extremely red after she withdrew her hand but he didn't mind. He thought she was the cutest thing on two legs. When he heard her reply "I'm glad you brought me here." He felt so very happy. "I'm glad you accepted my invitation." Cole replied slowly and carefully so as not to mess up his words. He looked into her eyes as she stared at him and suddenly she turned and began back up the ladder.
Cole heard Delilah ask him "What did you say?" That's when he realized that he had been thinking out loud again. He replied up to Delilah "I just started thinking out loud accidentally, so yeah my thoughts came out loud...it was a accident." Cole was doing his best to explain himself but he kept digging himself in further and further. By the time he finished his sentence his face was a deep shade of red, and it definitly was noticable. Cole saw the ladder swaying after he replied to Delilah. He quickly grabbed it and held it in place to make sure that she wouldn't fall. I can't believe I did it again...is it always going to be like that? Cole thought. He called up to Delilah "How are you doing up there?"

Delilah couldn't help but crack up after Cole announced that he was ok, "Good! I wouldn't have to save you. I'm a princess afterall." She said with a coy grin, glad that she could joke around with him, and be who she truly was. She was starting to wonder if Cole really was this mean tough guy that he portrayed himself as. Whether he liked it or not, in Delilah's eyes, he was becoming something of a big, soft, fluffy teddy bear, something warm she could hold on to, someone that was always there, someone easy to be around, and something she was starting to really really like.
Too bad Cole couldn't read thoughts, because the very reason why Delilah even bothering harassing his nose, was because she thought he was the cutest thing ever. She really did love the reaction he gave her though, it made her see that he enjoyed her silliness, and she could only hope that at some point, once they were both comfortable, he'd be able to show her just as much goofiness. Or was it flirting?
Delilah grinned as he blushed madly, and couldn't help the smug smile that spread slowly across her face, "Oh come now, was that really so bad?" She asked, moving the finger from the left cheek on his face, to the right, feeling just how warm her was, or maybe she was just cold. She began to wonder how this night would end... but all she could think of for the time being, was that she didn't ever want it to. End, that is.
Delilah's brows held there furrow, as her curiosity grew. Surely he would tell her what he had said, accident or not. It would be rude to keep it from her... Wouldn't it? Delilah looked back down at her friend and grinned, "Oh come on! Pllleeeease?!?" She asked, in the most cutesy voice she could muster. She could easily see the blush on his face, she had pretty well perfect vision.
As Cole tried to steady the ladder, it only ended up jerking Delilah to one side, so that she fell onto her backside, but luckily, not to the bottom of the ladder, which was lucky. No one likes falling from mid-way up a ladder. "Could be better!" She said loudly to Cole, wondering why the ladder had jerked suddenly, and why she was stuck sitting awkwardly on this step now, her legs in pain.

Cole listened to every word Delilah said to him. He was so enthralled that he couldn't help but listen. This girl had his attention. After Delilah said "Good! I wouldn't have to save you. I'm a princess afterall." Cole started to blush softly. He felt really at peace with Delilah going along with what he had thought since the night they had met. "I would never expect a princess to come rescue me; especially not one as amazing as you." Cole said to her. I hope she doesn't mind me thinking or acting like this towards her... Cole thought. He rather enjoyed being with Delilah and could not take his mind off of her no matter how hard he tried.
Cole saw Delilah grin when he turned the shade of a tomato after she bumped her finger to his nose. But then what happened? He felt her finger trace from his left cheek to the right. He felt how smooth and soft her finger felt on his face. Her touch gave him chills. Cole shivered gently; not from the cold but from her finger being pulled across his face. He felt his face getting hotter and hotter. He knew by this time his face could not have turned much more red than it already was. I probably look like a idiot right now... Cole thought. Although he knew full well that Delilah wouldn't care if he was blushing or not he couldn't help but feel like a idiot for grinning and blushing as he was. He finally worked up the voice to answer her question. "It can't be bad at all...it is you afterall." Cole replied. There wasn't a thing Cole wanted to do more than to just grab Delilah and hug her tight in that moment but he knew he shouldn't take more than she was willing to give to him.
When Delilah called from on the ladder "Oh come on! Pllleeeease?!?" in her cute voice Cole couldn't say no to her. Cole answered her "I hope you don't get mad; I was just thinking and it came out...I said She practically glows in this light...not a unreal glow, but a beautiful soft angelic glow... I just sometimes find myself thinking about how beautiful you are...well not just sometimes...a lot...I should just stop talking cause yeah I'm probably only making things worse...." Cole trailed off. Idiot! Way to talk your way into a hole! He thought. It seemed like he would never be able to stop blushing when he was around Delilah.
Cole's smile left quickly and was replaced with a face of worry when he saw that his attempt to steady the ladder for Delilah had almost made her fall off. In regards to the question he asked, well Delilah had answered quite truthfully. She definetly could have been better. Cole couldn't help but feel like the world's biggest jerk when he saw what his clumsiness had almost done. "I'm so sorry...I was trying to steady the ladder for you I saw it moving and was trying to help...I'm sorry...I'm such a idiot...is there anything I can do to help you at all?" Cole shouted up to Delilah. Great...not only did I embarass myself forever with my stupid thinking out loud...but I also managed to almost kill my best friend... Cole thought. There was nothing he wanted more than to just have the evening start going the way it had been again.

Small Delilah looked at Cole and grinned, shaking her head, "And what makes me so amazing exactly?" She asked teasingly, not notcing the blush that had crept across Cole's face. Had she noticed, she wouldn't have continued her teasing, but that wasn't the case this time.
Delilah grinned at Cole's reaction, it was what she wanted and anticipated. "Yes, I'd watch out if I were you... It is me afterall." Delilah said in his response to his question of whether or not he minded at all. Delilah could see the want in his eyes, how badly he wanted to hug her, and his want, matched hers. But she knew she just wasn't ready for that yet, and so, she proceeded to the ladder.
Delilah shook her head at Cole, trying to be mad at what he said about her, but she was nothing but how he described her: glowing, angelic, beautiful, and happy. Really happy. The girl let out a small, happy laugh, and sighed, "Try not to get too romantic on me, ok?" She told him, crossing her arms in front of her chest. "And..." She added quickly, the blush returning to her own face, "thank you..." She said, her voice trailing off.
Back to her being on her behind on the ladder, she saw as Cole's concern was raised, due to her clumsiness. Delilah gripped her own hands tightly, waiting for the pain to subside. She strained to stood up, but did so anyways, ascending the rest of the ladder, not hearing what Cole had to say, only that he had said something because she had saw that his lips had been moving. Why she was staring at his lips, was beyond her.
Finally, she reach the top, and gasped. The whole city glowed with it's own light, and the stars above them were even brighter than when her feet were upon the ground. Now if only she had a broom and the muggles wouldn't find it odd if she flew over the city. Delilah sighed, and sat near the edge, hoping Cole would join her soon, and let her legs hang over the edge of the tall building. She wasn't really afraid of heights, just that if she fell, it would hurt just a little.

Cole couldn't help but be astouned at how easily Delilah just let his comments go. To him it felt like almost a warning and he knew exactly what she meant. "I don't try to be romantic or anything like that...you know sometimes my thoughts just get spoken out loud when I don't mean them too...by the way, I don't think I ever said your welcome so...your welcome...still don't mind being around me to much?" Cole replied. Half thinking she was getting tired of him and half thinking she wasn't Cole's stomach was really uneasy as his trail of thoughts ran wild. What it came down to was eventually him realizing he was just going to let it play out. As He watched her continue on her way up the ladder he felt real peace with it. Feeling the crisp night air rush in and out of his lungs kept him reminding him that he was very alive and happy for it in this moment.
As Delilah continued up the ladder after her slip caused by Cole he couldn't help but be impressed at her fighting spirit. Going to have to work pretty hard if I want to keep saving her. Cole thought remembering to keep his thoughts to himself this time. "You've got a lot of heart!" He shouted up to Delilah. He knew he was smiling and he wanted to be. He kept watching her fight through it, thats when he noticed that she was staring at her lips. Cole really couldn't help but wonder what she was thinking in those moments but the only noise going on at that point was the wind moving through the empty streets.
As he saw Delilah clear the top of the ladder and move up onto the building Cole began his ascent up the ladder. There was a certain thrill for him about going up to his place every time he did. No matter how many times he had been through the ritual he found it exciting and always managed to see the view differently from the previous times. As he grabbed onto the cold steel of the ladder he knew that this was going to be the best time in his place that he had ever had. He was about to go home. Not alonem but with his best friend. He felt his muscles moving and his heart pounding as he reached the top. Then he saw her. Sitting casually right on the edge with her legs hanging over the side of the building. Cole went and sat beside her.
"Beautiful isn't it?" Cole asked Delilah quietly. Slightly taken back by the beauty himself he wasn't even sure if Delilah would be able to respond to him. I'm just happy to be here with my best friend...its never been shared with anyone but she has proven herself worth it... Cole thought. "No matter how many times I come here I can never find the words to describe it, nor can I ever come here like its no big deal and take the beauty for granted...its always enough to take my breath away..." Cole trailed off leaving silence.
