"Forgiveness granted," she answered with the a short nod. Her smile was still plastered across her face as she took another forkful from her plate, having forgotten to eat while she was having such a grand time with the man. But, he caught her a little off-guard with his short stop and then "cover-up".
De--deeds, deer, deserts, de--what? The silence was... interesting. What was it he was going to suggest? Elizabeth sat for a moment, wondering when he switched the topic to... wands?
Not the smoothest substitution, but she was now curious.
"Wands?" she asked the man with a confused smile. It was unclear what he was going to say. "You are a wand expert, correct?" she asked, trying to help smooth everything out a bit. "What do you think makes the best core?"

What an interesting position Nick put himself in. In an attempt to avoid looking like a fool, he instead opted to... look like a fool. He much preferred the light-hearted joking the man and woman were just participating in a moment earlier, but he had brought up wands, and so now they were discussing wands...
"Wand cores?" Nick said, nodding. "I've really been liking hippogriff hair, lately. Of course, it varies depending on the person and how they use their wand the most."
"But," the man continued, smiling slightly once again, "what encouraged you to go into the field of magical creatures, thus ensuring our introduction and subsequent dinner? If it was a person, I must send them a card -- I'm quite thankful."
[sorry, this post is awful... but I wanted to get it up sometime before I turned 80... and at the rate is was taking me...]

(( and at the rate it was taking me... you're 78 now? ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) If that's the case, I must be much, much older ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) )) Absolutely understandable. Elizabeth knew a little about wands, she had not ever studied them, but she knew certain types of wood, cores, lengths, they all worked for different wizards at different times. And with the charming smile the man was offering, she could help but stop all thinking process just for that moment. What is best to do when you cannot think? Start eating. Nodding her head as though she understood completely, she continued taking little bite after bite for the moment. Hippogriff hair? Interesting quality. She would have though a talon more than a bit of hair, but she also supposed it was safer going for a tuft of hair or a feather than it was to get a talon clipping. However, as she went to take another bite, the conversation was turned on herself and how she became involved. Not a horrible subject matter at all. "While I was attending school, I took Care of Magical Creatures as an elective," she started after finishing the more recent of bits she had taken. "My Professor for the particular class said I was rather gifted with the subject, and she enjoyed how much care I put into taking care of whichever creature she had available for us during lessons. And after that she and I became rather close, with me spending much of my free time with her and the creatures she accumulated." Taking another morsel, she thought for a moment about what happened next, it was really that moment that made her go into her employment. "Then my last year rolled around and I still had no idea what I wanted to do, and she basically forced me to take a job at the German Ministry." A short laugh was ushered, but it was a gentle one. "My mother was quite grateful, and I took the job my professor laid out for me. It is not quite what I would like to do, I would rather study the creatures, but it is a start. Sometimes I get to meet interesting creatures, much like that Runespoor, or you." With a smirk she stared at the man after her tease. Of course he was not a creature, but he was interesting all the same.

Tilting his head to the left, Nick smirked playfully. The Ministry woman had just implied that he was a creature; perhaps even similar to a Runespoor? Playfully shaking his head slightly, the wand maker spoke. "Me, a creature? Hmpf. I don't know if I like being classified as a creature."
"Besides," the man continued, grinning, "are you saying I'm as interesting as Runespoor? That is quite an accomplishment, considering that the animal in my store had three heads. I don't honestly know that I'm exactly worthy of that."

"Well, I would say all people are creatures of some sort," she answered with a playful smile. Each person was as different as each creature she had ever known, encountered, or read of. There were so many that it made life difficult in memorizing, but with people you did not have to memorize them as one grouping because each was so different from another. It was quite fun to sit somewhere and just people-watch, though Elizabeth was not sure she would admit to that any time soon. It was her specialty, watching people.
"I have no name for you, you are quite charming, and yet a little bit mysterious, so ja, you are as interesting as the creature I caught in your shop." No, this man did not have bright orange as a skin color, he did not hold three heads, and he most certainly did not seem to be poisonous. The Ministry woman was quite pleased about that last.

The width of his grin increasing with each compliment, Nick nodded as if he understood while the Ministry woman finished her sentence. He briefly considered using transfiguration to give himself three heads, but quickly decided that the creepiness would outweigh the humor. "I see," the wand maker said, smiling again. "Still, I consider myself very fortunate to have only one head."
Shifting his arm on the table, he heard his wrist crack and looked down in surprise. Looking back up, he stared straight into his companion's eyes and smiled again. "Well," he said, "I find you just as interesting, as well."

One head, one mind. It was much simpler to be as such, though for one to learn and observe another, it made things much more complicated. One could not easily see which was thinker, planner, dreamer, etc. With only one things were complicated for another, and yet still quite simple for the owner.
Finally clearing her plate, she smiled gently at the man as he complimented her. Interesting was good, it meant more chance for conversing again, as well as it meant that they'd be likely to have a few good things to say to keep the other interested on their next endeavor.
"As interesting as a three-headed snake in your wand shop?" she asked with a tease. "I must say I feel very honored."

"One might say that you're far more interesting than the orange-skinned, three-headed snake I found in my shop." Nick paused, tilting his head to the right. "However, I don't know that I really have the right to belittle the creature. After all, that snake is the reason I am experiencing the pleasure of having dinner with such a wonderful woman as yourself."
The man smiled, looking at the Ministry woman sitting across the table. It was not a smile of laughter or amusement. Rather, it was a smile of genuine enjoyment and curiosity - the type of smile a person smiles when they realize they would rather be nowhere else but where they were.
Breaking eye contact with the woman, Nick looked down at their empty plates. "Perhaps we should order dessert?"

More interesting? More interesting than that of a Runespoor? That was quite an achievement in Elizabeth's mind. For the creature had been of utmost significance, something that was rare and also managed to escape a caged life...or worse. The creature had managed to escape, find its way to another shop, which in turn had brought a call from the man. Intelligence on his part needed to be order considering he did not try taking care of it himself. Most would have before giving the Ministry a notice of any thing.
Smiling in return, Elizabeth nodded in agreement that dessert sounded rather good. Buying a few more moments with this man was important currently.
"And Mr. Shop Owner," she started, trying to think of something to speak of, something that had not yet been discussed. "You seem to be a rather pleasant man, good company so far, I am hoping, too, you are not a masked murder?"
A gentle tease and a slight smile to accompany.

Grinning, the shop owner shrugged his shoulders and faked a sigh. "Actually," he began. "I hoped that I would be able to avoid bringing this up, but I am actually a masked murderer." He nodded his head vigorously while laughing quietly. Softly, he added, only for clarification, "just kidding."
At that moment, and thankfully not a second earlier, the waitress reappeared at their table to clear their plates. Nick watched in silence, and as she turned to leave their table, the man stopped her. "Excuse me," he said, as nicely as possible, "the Ministry woman and I would like to order dessert."
Smiling gently at his dinner date, it still amused Nick that they called each other by their faux-names, even in front of others who were not in on the humor. It wouldn't surprise the wand maker if the waitress thought he treated women bad or something to that affect. Making eye contact with the Ministry woman, Nick spoke: "Ladies first."

"Oh no!" Elizabeth played along with the act. Of course, had the man been a true masked murder, he would have done well to not let himself be seen with her in public. Laughing along with the man, she could not help but enjoy how he played along with little jokes. Actually, his laugh was awfully nice as well.
As the waitress sauntered to their particular table to begin clearing up, Elizabeth was a bit astounded that she did not ask whether they would be set for the evening before turning away. And a large grin crept over her lips when he continued to call her Ministry Woman, it was highly amusing, even though the woman gave a questioning look to herself about what the man had called her.
"Always a gentleman, Shop Owner?" she asked in return tease to the man. Turning her bright blue eyes to the waitress, she requested the available desserts, which were an array of pies, cakes, pudding, and treacle tart.
Requesting an order of the last on her list, Elizabeth smiled over at the man across from her and wondered how he'd top off his dinner that evening.

Nick had absolutely no idea what he desired for desert as their waitress impatiently listed them off. Truthfully, he wouldn't mind a large bowl of vanilla ice cream. Ice cream, however, seemed inappropriate. For whatever reason, the wand maker felt he should at least know the woman's name, first. It was just one of those unwritten social etiquette rules, it seemed.
"I think I'll take the same thing as the Ministry woman," Nick said, smiling politely at the waitress. The waitress didn't return the favor before turning from and leaving their table.
The shop owner returned his eye contact to the woman sitting across the table. Nick began to genuinely smile, not at all like the polite smile he gave the waitress just a moment earlier. Inwardly, he wondered how soon he would learn her name and how soon she would learn his. Outwardly, he began to speak: "So far, this has been quite an enjoyable evening, Ministry woman."

Laughing lightly, Elizabeth looked back to the waitress with an amused look, enjoying the very look she was receiving for her dining companion's choice of "pet name". Truly, it was highly amusing, had any other called her of the such she would have likely not have taken it, but this man had every right to in he opinion. After all, they did not know one another, they had only met once, and that was on business, what else was he supposed to do? Refer to her as "her" or "that person"? No, she much enjoyed this.
"I must agree," Elizabeth answered, truly wondering what the man's name was. Richard? He did not look like a Richard, Geoffry? Did not look like one of those either. Oliver? No. Timothy? Not a chance. Samuel? Possibly. "I cannot be truthful to say that I have had a more enjoyable night than tonight since I have moved here to the U.K. Most of the time I am too busy with working and playing catch up on paperwork in order to actually go out."

Nick smiled, wondering inwardly as to what the woman would normally do if someone she didn't know began calling her 'Ministry woman.' To the wand maker, she seemed like an independent person who didn't put up with anything. If someone marched into her office at the Ministry of Magic and called her the Ministry woman, how would she react?
"I concur," Nick said, nodding in response to his companion's statement. "This has been, by far, the most fun -- and interesting -- night I've had in a very long time."
Watching her serve their dessert, the shop owner forced another polite smile to the waitress as she glanced at him. Truthfully, he was rather tired of her silent judgments she was so obviously making. Couldn't the woman see that they were having fun?

Indeed, the night had been a hit. And she had been nervous before? There was no reason to have been, the man was kind, interesting, and quite a bit of fun. Not to mention he was intelligent, charming, humorous, and he was rather good looking to top it off. To make the biggest surprise of all, the man was single. Perhaps, much like herself, he worked often and could not afford to go out as much as most other men who did not reach half of his qualities could. However, she had met him in his shop, was it not possible he met many woman such ways? Though, she was the one who more or less initiated the whole thing.
Receiving her dessert, Elizabeth flashed the waitress a friendly smile, not caring for her doings that night, but feeling appreciative anyway.
"Well shop owner, do you have any hobbies?"
