Natalie Bane made her way into the common room, straightening out the front of her dress a little as she came through the moving wall. The others were evidently spending their evening out on the lawns, by the lake, or perhaps even working on earning extra credit. Either way she was the first in here and she was alone.
She made her way over to the leather couch that sat directly in the middle, not knowing or caring if anyone had claimed it or not.. Well, if they had they would have to come in there and persuade her to move. Natalie Bane was the sort of girl that usually claimed what she wanted and let other things fall to the side for the others.. Still furniture was not important and nothing Hogwarts had could compare to what she had at home in the Bane Manor.
She relaxed now, enjoying this time alone.. or at least the lack of racket. Her dark eyes settled on the fire and she let one of her hands drift up to twirl a blonde lock absentmindedly around her finger. Her dress matched her features, fair - a light creme color that was almost sheer with bell sleeves and falling gracefully about her ankles. Her eyes drifted to the 'door' now, if you would call it that, wanting company - sort of. She liked to be around some people - even if the feeling wasn't mutual. Well, either way was fine by her as long as she was comfortable.

And then someone arrived. Dean walked into the Slytherin Common Room laiden wtih several books from his latest classes. He had one muggle studies book and another Herbology one, both of which he set down on the table next to a chari located close to the fireplace. Even though the weather had not turned cold yet Dean still was getting used to the temperature of the Slytherin dwellings.
Dean turned around abruptly as he felt he was being watched and saw Natalie. She looked, if anything, a bit paperish, he noticed. " Hey. I'm Dean Quinn. " He went on, introducing himself as he sat down in the chair opposite of Natalie. He remembered back to the first day after the feast... What an event that turned out to be. " You're Natalie, right? " He asked her.

Natalie watched him as he entered the common room. This had been the boy she first thought nothing of because he was quiet.. However Daniel's childish actions made her rethink his lack of action and conversation.. After all he could be rather intelligent for all she knew..
She gave a faint smile as he noticed her and she let her hand fall to her lap, letting go of her curl. Dean Quinn. She made a mental note to memorize that. Most faces were a blur and the names to match them no better.
He sat down and inquired her on her name. He had heard that much.. However she had hardly spoken to him that night at all. She had stated her name and year openly, otherwise she would stand and offer him her hand.. Ah.. she would probably get the casual handshake and that wasn't really what Natalie was used to.
She gave him a nod of her head, "Natalie Bane." Her eyes drifted to his books, one a muggle studies book.. was she seeing that correctly? Her dark eyes shot up to him, "You have a fascination for muggles do you?" She was right to the point.. No beating around the bush but you had to admire her on that.

" Ah, yes. I remember. " Dean said when she confirmed her name. He was, of course, refering to the little gathering in the Common Room the other night. The days seemed to go by quickly here... He had alot on his mind recently and needed an outlet. Usually it was protesting something or other but at Hogwarts there seemed nothing that he could... Or that he had found yet. He simply hoped this time he would not be kicked out of school for it.
Dean felt her eyes dig into him and he looked up and met her gaze. " Yes. I'm half blood. " He told her. Dean never took offence when people insulted half bloods or muggles. It was just he was. Wasn't exactly his fault but concerning the acutal thoughts towards muggles and the like... To each his own. Dean held Natalie's gaze, waiting to see her reaction to this.

Half blood.. That wasn't the part that bothered Natalie. She didn't care if you were pure, half.. mud.. well that was a little disappointing but you were still a witch/wizard. Pure bloods of course held more respect among them all but she didn't hate halfies for being just that.. However the girl hated muggles.
She inhaled deeply, arching her left eyebrow and sitting up more in her seat. "And just how do you feel, Dean Quinn, knowing that muggles are the reason we do not have freedom? I mean is it not a pity that we have to tip toe around in life to keep from offending them because they are too stupid to understand that we are superior, that we are apt in something they can't even start to grasp?" Natalie's dark eyes were slipping into something not commonly seen, she lost that innocent demeanor.. Yes, she could be cold but not many got to see this side of her.
She stood, her hand slipping to take her wand from her garter on her right leg. She gave a flick of her wrist and the muggle studies book floated up in the air, flipping open. One more swift movement and the pages were hastily being ripped one by one out and soaring right into the fireplace. "Dean I suggest that you don't waste your time studying something that refuses to believe we exist. They want to kill us because they are intimidated by us.. Surely you see that your potential is being thrown away like sand cast in the wind."

Dean leaned forward in his chair, staring at Natalie as she tried to explain her reasoning for hating muggles. " It's not exactly like they have freedom either. They're kept from the truth. That's not freedom. " He pointed out to her, although she just kept on. When she sounded like she was finished and stood, Dean stood as well. He wasn't exactly afraid of what she was going to do, more like curious of how she would react next. Dean watched his book as it was being torn to pieces, page by page. " What the hell are you doing? " He asked her, now seeing the remains of the book being burned... It wasn't like he couldn't fix it. In fact it would be easy. A few simple spells but it was more the fact that she actually had the nerve to do it. Dean looked at her with some sort of respect.
" They don't want anything to do with us because they fear us. They don't know. " He said, although by this time he was through thinking he could change her point of view. That whole faze lasted about half a second.

Natalie was mildly surprised as he stood up also but she liked that.. After all Slytherin didn't need a bunch of spineless fools running around. Still his question amused her, "Well Dean, I was hoping to give you a shift in the right direction. Many muggles don't know about us but the truth is because they want to kill us when they do. I mean look at the Salem Witch Trials- they went about foolishly killing their own just because they thought they could cast magic. Never mind the fact that those that could could easily cast the freezing charm on the fire when they tried to burn them at the stake."
She stepped close to him and lowered her wand, clearly not meaning harm to his person... yet. She kept her chin angled up, looking at him, "You being a half blood does not bother me, though many may want to eradicate you for this... so called 'disease'. You know that being a wizard is something this house takes pride in and we want to be able to live life comfortably, doing what we wish when we choose. Of course I am not talking about killing and chaos. I merely don't think that we should be swept under the rug as if we were something to be ashamed of."
A smirk settled on her lips, "Don't let the Ministry fool you by making you think muggles are the victims. Of course no one has it made in this world but they are not forced to deny what they are when they are around others..." Her dark eyes were fixed on his and she questioned his reasoning, "Why do you think it's relevant to learn about their life style unless you too believe that it should be forced on us?" She shook her head a little, she wasn't saying for him to abandon his family but to support the group as a whole, that was atrocious. "The only time I wont be offended when I see someone with a muggle studies book is when they are extinct." Natalie stood her ground, wondering what the Slytherin male had in mind.. she didn't mean a direct insult to him, per say, but she took his interest in muggles as an insult to herself.. to her kind.. which included him.

Dean shook his head, it was like being in a book where all you read about what a conspiracy. That was how he felt about Natalie, she was intriguing as well as... what was the word? Perhaps a little dangerous.
Standing about 4 inches taller than Natalie Dean had to hand it to her. This was at the very least interesting. When she brought up the Salem Witch Trials Dean shook his head once again and went on, " That was a completely different time. Not all muggles are the same. It's like saying all Wizards hate muggles. It's true for some but not all. " He stated to her. Then Natalie went on about... something. He didn't exactly know who she was referring to when she said, ' I merely don't think that we should be swept under the rug as if we were something to be ashamed of. ' He thought she meant Wizards in general but... It was hard to tell with her. Dean simply chose to disregard her comment about the Ministry... He didn't want to get involved into that discussion. With her next question, though, it was Dean's turn to shake his head disbelievingly. " They're just different. " He said to her with a sort of half shrug. His eyes briefly met hers as she said her very last comment. Dean wondered what it would be like to be brought up in a family where they told you that you were superior.

Natalie saw the way he sort of dodged many of the issues, not answering her fully and sometimes not at all. Of course this was starting to get to Natalie just a bit.. She wanted to know that there was some speck of hope and understanding in him.. He was so defensive of the muggles.. what about his kind, wizards and such? She wanted to know what he thought about it all.. yet he held back.
She felt that little tick setting off in the back of her head, "You seem so confident that they have changed and are just willing to accept us with open arms. I don't care if we converge or not.. I just believe that we should use force to be able to do what we want.. what is natural, that is if force is needed." She let a smile play on her lips, she pulled her wand up and idly let the point rest on the tip of her index finger. "Now Dean, you can't be ignorant enough to believe that the muggles will just accept us.. How do you really feel about the situation and where are your facts to back it up? Every point I make to prove my views and why I am correct, well sweetheart you ignore them. You will have to settle on an answer one day and you might as well face it down with me."

And then there was that little part of Dean being thoroughly agitated by her. But he pushed that down as he listened to her. " Why should they accept us with open arms when there are still people like you? " Dean asked, his eyes staring down intently upon her. " They won't all just accept us, they're different. We're different. " He said it so simply a first year could have understood what he meant. When Natalie told him he might as well tell her what his views are.
Dean breathed in deeply before saying, " There's so much secrecy between the two worlds that we don't know enough about the other group to make a well-informed decision. They don't know any better than their small world they have... It's all they have. I think we leave them alone, they leave us alone. Nothing happens.... " His voice now trailed off into his own thoughts. He didn't exactly know what to think of Natalie. He found her straightforward ways appealing but he didn't exactly know...

People like you.. yeah.. that hit a sore spot with Natalie. She raised her wand up to gently trace the side of his face, "And just who are people like me? I take it you hate me because I don't like being repressed for what I am?" Natalie usually got closer to people when she was angry, her touch may be light.. unless pressed but she usually got more hands on in these situations. Now it seemed that Dean was just insulting her and she had not let things get that far with him.
"And yes, perhaps we should crate muggles up and ship them to one side of the world so that we may actually live the way we want and have out own areas to do magic freely in. We could confine them there with magic.. making sure they wouldn't disturb us again. Our schools, our social events.. they are all concealed and monitored, making sure there are no muggle witnesses. We can't use brooms openly and our sources of travel are sometimes.. bothersome because we don't want to disturb muggles. With the way you talk now I would assume that no one can have peace unless we confine them on a large island away from us or kill them all in all.. I am not one for genocide but if you had decided to represent them you wouldn't be speaking very good on their behalf right now."

Dean raised his chin several inches as Natalie traced his jawline with her wand ( a little gm there ). " People like you are the people that hate muggles. For no reason. Why is is that you hate them all, by the way? Family honor, had to be passed on from generation to generation. " He said this with a feint smirk forming on his face. Now he was taunting her, and he knew it. Probably not the most intelligent thing to do because she still had her wand in his face but Dean didn't really care too much.
" There's just some things you can't change... You're so intent on hearing my views, what about yours? Sure, we are superior but come on, there's got to be something more to it then that. " He went on, still waiting for a reaction from her.

*sorry, I don't see that as g.m. because it's not to use it.. it's just the touch that I am using the motion for. I guess that I could have put 'reached up to'.. Ah.. anyway as long as it doesn't lead to harm or control your charrie I don't usually p.ussyfoot around it. Like for instance I don't consider grabbing someone g.m. <.< However trust if anything comes to that I play fair*
"Hate muggles.." her voice repeated that softly as she let her wand fall to her side, held in her hand still. "Perhaps I hate the Ministry more for catering to them.. for setting up all sort of laws and restrictions for us." She tilted her head to the side, "Maybe I hate them because I have no faith that they will let us live the way we should.. that they will try to stand against us and kill us again. You say it's a different time but they are still the same ignorant creatures." She was bitter, highly bitter because she had been surpressed... all her life from every angle almost. Perhaps that was the answer he was looking for but to answer it so openly would give him several other questions to ask her and that would be opening up to someone..
She took a step back, her mind still swimming with this thought. She would have to clear her head but she didn't feel violent towards him.. He had done nothing at the moment to press her anger.. the family honor thing, well that just went over her head.. not to mention the question was more important anyway. Natalie Bane came from a long line of pure bloods so she didn't question her lineage. "Perhaps I don't hate them all... But why do you not take more pride in your abilities, your wizarding family?" Her eyes were trained on his, wondering just where his logic came in on this.

(( I meant me asuming Natalie was moving the wand along his jaw )) Dean nodded once as she let her hand fall to her side. He gazed at her as she talked, listening and trying to relate... Somehow. He was just raised differently, he thought. Half of his family was muggles, his father loved them. Dean didn't exactly share this love but he could never hate them. As Natalie went on about hating muggles or perhaps the ministry. As she finished bitterly Dean added in. " But we are ignorant as well... Everyone is to a certain degree. " As his eyes met hers and she asked him a question, Dean felt a little obligated to stand up for the muggle part of his heritage. " I do. I'm proud of both families. Wiziarding and muggle, family's family. " He added with a shrug of his shoulders. Now he had no idea why the pair were still standing, looking as if they were going to face off in a duel or something.

*Sorry.. Yeah, good enough. If it mattered that much I would specify*
Natalie Bane listened to him, yet at the moment she seemed.. passive enough. That was easily understood seeing as how Dean had not opposed her or approached her aggressively during this time. Whatever she said she believed to the fullest... She respected the fact that he didn't move against her but he did not stand down either. Therefore she didn't feel need to push an unnecessary violence on him.
She turned and made her way back to her..er.. the couch and sat down in the middle. She made a motion for him to sit with her. After all she might as well learn more about him other than his heritage. He didn't speak so quickly and offensively for muggles.. He was half muggle so it would be harder for him to accept the views she had. Hate.. now Natalie may not precisely hate muggles, she saw them more as cattle. However all these steps to ruin her 'life style' for their mental safety, that caused her to over react. She didn't want anything to do with them.. but that's how it goes, right?
"Perhaps if you have some time we could get to know one another better. After all I know you are a half blood but I don't know where you come from and what your parent's lifestyles are like." She was being polite, after all that was how she was taught to act. And things like that did matter alot because her family was so different than others. She took pride in her family but she was also ashamed that they didn't have any opinion about the way that muggles effected their life style. All in all Natalie's parents were completely neutral.
