"Broke a few laws?" Hiro repeated, perhaps Kellen's case wasn't as close to his as he had thought. His father had hardly wrote a letter to him while he lived in Japan. "I'd be curious enough just for that."

"Yeah, she must have," Kellen mused. "It was a closed adoption, nobody was supposed to get any details about it, right? Maybe she bribed someone. Who knows." He scratched the back of his neck lightly, a sure sign that he was thinking. "I should talk to her," he said quietly.

"Well it's hard to do that when you're not in person." Hiro pointed out. "Most communications are strict with recent events, and even more so cause she's a muggle...you think."

"But summer's not too far off," he said, almost hopefully. "If I go home, not to London with my brother, right? I can meet her face to face. I kind of...wonder what she's like, you know? You can't get that out of a letter, not really."

"You could probably do both, see your brother for a while." Hiro knew there had been some kind of tension over Kellen's brother during the year. "Then you could go see your family...I mean...um...see your...family." Hiro really didn't know what else to call them.

"My brother is my family," Kellen said pointedly. "And my sister and my parents are my family. This woman just shares blood, that's all." He was definite in this point. He wasn't about to call some woman who'd given him up at birth 'family'.
