Gail thought for a minute. Drew’s idea about the cats had some merit. Ari herself had a cat, and it could have easily batted the paint set into a corner. What was that cat’s name? Janice? Junior?
In any case, it was possible. However, Gail was pretty sure the cat hadn’t done this before. A more likely option was that someone found it, thought it was lost, and put it somewhere it didn’t belong. An honest mistake, but a mistake nonetheless.
That brought up the question of who could have done it. Although she had left for the holidays, many people had stayed for the Yule Ball. She tried to think who had, but her list ended up comprising most of Ravenclaw House, far too vague to be of any use. Another option was someone who had returned that morning. That narrowed the list considerably.
“Maybe someone found it by accident and thought it was something else,” she said. “They could have put it where they thought it belonged, instead of where it actually goes. It might just be a mistake.” She paused. “Did you also check on top of the wardrobes? I think lost stuff likes to congregate up there a bit."
It was a good theory, but Gail knew she was missing something here. She just couldn’t think of what it was.

"It's too big for a cat to move..." Arianna murmured. Perhaps 'paint set' was the wrong word. She had gathered together so many different paints and brushes that the old box couldn't even hold a third of her things. Her paints now lay in hidden in something resembling a large tackle box. And why in the world would anyone think that under her bed was the wrong place for it? Heck, why was anyone looking under her bed? And as for the wardrobes....
"I'm too short to check the tops of the wardrobes," Arianna pointed out. Now a frown crossed her face, causing her brows to crease. "And why would it be up there anyway?"

"So one of the girls took it," Drew answered, shrugging as if this were not a big deal. "Who can we blame it on?" He gave teh girls a wide grin, slightly pleased he wouldn't... couldn't be blamed for this one.

"'Legra?" Arianna asked, snorting. She knew Allegra wouldn't ever take someone's things without asking. But since Arianna didn't know many of the other girls, besides Lily, she couldn't think of anyone else to blame. Where ever her paint set was, the whole thought that someone might've taken it didn't sit well with her. It meant someone in their midst couldn't be trusted.
