The creatures for today's lesson were hardly the cutest things on the planet, but studying a worm had it's advantages. If nothing else, it told Becca whether or not the student's could handle and respect a more difficult creature. If they couldn't even manage to keep a flobberworm alive for an hour, there really was no point in them taking this class.
She had set up the class inside (no need to make it harder on the students by throwing them the late summer heat into the mix), desks set up facing the front and on top of each a small crate containing the day's subject.
Becca was seated at her desk, reading a book, but still (unusually) aware of the students filing in. Third years were like many of her creatures. You didn't want to turn your back on them.

Matty emurged into the classroom, and saw that today they were studying what seemed to be a type of worm. She didnt notice any other students in the room so Matty sat in the middle row and looked up at the Professor. SHe was reading a book so Matty decied it was best not to disturb her so she set down her things and peerd at the creature, "yuck" she mummbled to herself and pulled out her gloves hoping that they would get to use them indead of just touching the worms!

Jynx walked into the classroom noticing that there was only one other student there. A fellow Hufflepuff that he had not met yet which was suprising since they were in the same house and the same year. He took a seat next to the girl and unloaded his things from his bag. Looking around he noticed that there was somekind of worm that they were most likely going to look at today and also that the professor was already in the room reading a book. He didn't mind worms to much so he was not grossed out by their apparent assignment.

"Hi, Im Matty Wentworth, isnt it weird that we havent really met yet?" Matty said as the boy aproched her. She also unpacked her things and took out her wand. *SQUELCH* "yuck, these dont look that interesting do they?" she said in a digusted voice. Matty looked around that classroom but no-one had ebtered scince the fellow Hufflepuffs entrance. Matty picked up her quill and wrote on her parchment 'Care of Magical Creatures: Lesson 1' she then turned to the boy and smiled.

"I'm Jynx Caffee," Jynx said with a smile towards Matty, "Ya I thought we would have met by now. After all we are in the same house and year." He then watched as one of the worms crawled around. "I thought we would be learning about more interesting things then worms. But maybe this is just the start of the class and it will become more interesting with time. At least I hope it gets more interesting." Jynx said wondering if there was anything that could possibly be interesting about flobber worms.

{third years! *faints* and Matty, we don't do the ** thing in character}
"Miss Wentworth, you will not be needing your wand this lesson, nor your gloves, thank you," the professor announced, snapping her book closed and drawing the class to attention. It was true, that this was probably THE most boring lesson known to Magizoology kind, but it did have a purpose and Becca had already learned a few things about her students.
"Welcome to Magizoology. My name is Professor Davenport and today we will be discussing the flobberworm," she started. "Now I know you have your books with you. Would you please turn to the section on flobberworms."

{oh sorry!}
Matty put her gloves and wand away, that was a good sign that these flubber worms were not going to do much harm. She took out her book and turned to the page which had 'Flubberworms' written at the top of it. "Thank you Professor." she said and realized that she looked a bit sheepish. Matty got out a spear piece of parchment and slipped it under the book just in case they needed to take notes. She glanced up at the teacher and smiled to show that she was ready, but then turned back down to her book and read the title two times again.

Jynx took out his book and placed it onto his desk. Also taking out a quill and a piece of parchment so that he could take notes. He then lazily turned a few of the pages at a time making his way to the chapter about flobberworms. After a few minutes he found the section entitled flobberworms and looked up waiting for the next instructions. While he was waiting he decided that he would doodle on his piece of parchment that he had gotten out for notes, ready and waiting for any notes she might say.

Becca picked one of the slimey creatures up from the container on her desk, and held it out carefully for the class to see. She usually had a very nice patting policy when it came to her creatures, but she doubted that anyone would be volunteering to give the fat worms a cuddle.
But you never knew.
"The Flobberworm. Probably the most boring creature known to Wizardkind, known best for his ability to do nothing other than sit there and produce a rather nice goo that is used to thicken potions," she lectured, hoping the students were at least taking notes.
"As with all magical creatures, the Ministry of Magic has clasified the Flobberworm. Can anyone give me that clasification and what it means?"

Jynx watched as the professor picked up a flobberworm and was glad that she didn't make them touch it even though he would have. He copied down what she had said in his notes thinking that she was right on the money when she said that the flobberworms were probably the most boring creature. After copying down everything she had said Jynx raised his hand and replied,"Its classification is a one X. It means that the creature isn't that dangerous."

Matty turned to Jynx and smiled, she didnt know all that much about magical creatures, but wanted to find out more. Matty also copied down what the professor had said before looking down and scaning the page about flobboreworms. It made another squeching noise befor turning around and rolling back and forth. Matty looked down at her own page before glancing across and Jynx's seeing his doodle, then started her own.

"Good," Becca said with a small smile. "One X is the lowest classification given to creatures, the highest being Five-X. While your book states that this means they are highly dangerous, a more correct description would be that they require an extremely high degree of respect and training to handle them properly. And yes, many creatures at the Five-X level are impossible to handle and are Wizard killers."
"Our Flobberworm, though is about as harmless as they come. They live in damp ditches, grow to about ten inches in length and feed on vegetation. Questions?"

Jynx wrote down what the professor was saying. He thought that he might should write down her definition of Five-X levels because it differed with what he book was saying and he knew that usually the professor was always right. Well at least if it came up on a test they were always right. Then going back to his notes where he had labeled a heading on flobber worms he wrote down the added facts and looked up to see what the others were doing. Suddenly something popped into his head and he raised his hand asking, "Does the flobberworm have to be a certain length or year before it produces the goo that thickens potions?"

Matty had taken in all of what the Professor had said, before writing down her scale on the side of the page, that was goiing to be useful. As she looked up at the Professor, then over to Jynx as he asked a question. Sure these worms might me the lowest form of magical creatures...but wouldn't the surely be something freaky or abnormal about them? She waited as Jynx finished his question. Matty would wait untill the Professor had answered his question, before asking her own if she needed to.

"The flobberworm is capable of producing its flobber almost immediately, but are most productive once they reach the age of two months," she announced. "So then, before you leave, I'd like you to sketch the worm for your notes, labeling all important parts and including a short summary of its qualities."
