Leaning her head up against his chest, the blonde locks swayed back and forth for a moment, wanting him to stop, but at the same time, somewhat believing him this time. The way he said it, and he wasn't outright apologizing, it just made her feel better. But there wasn't anything to take back, nothing could be taken back, once done or said, you had to move on.
And if he meant take back the snow, she didn't want him to.
"No," she answered, shaking her head once more. "She probably forgot since I'm not home." Shrinking in closer to Drew, Felicity tried not to cry, not to shake a little with the sobs, she didn't want to do any of that. "They're probably just to busy getting things ready for the cemetery."
She was used to it, had been since they'd learned of the passing. Every year, they made a trip on Felicity's birthday to the cemetery, where David and Ruth were buried.

It was the snow he wanted to take back most of all right then and there. It was that room, his stupid plan, that had started it all.
But he wasn't really thinking about his botched present anymore, more concerned about what she was saying. How could a mother forget a child's birthday, even if she wasn't at home? His mom never forgot his birthday and he was much farther away. It was like a mom rule or something, implanted deep into their DNA. Or maybe it was just that hard to forget the pain of childbirth, that they felt the need to remind you who brought you into the world.
They're probably just to busy getting things ready for the cemetery.
"Cemetery?" he echoed, before the realization hit him. "You're brother? David... and Ruth. They died on... today's the day?" Drew knew Felicity loved her whole family, but he also got the feeling that David had been special. To lose him on her birthday? No wonder she was having a bad day.

Shaking her head in response, she brought a hand up to wipe at the tears. No, they hadn't died today, but today was the day, the first day since it happened, she hadn't gone with them. Today wasn't the date of their death, but today was the day engraved in their minds, because today was the day they had to accept the fact of what had happened.
"No," she told him, trying to force the tears away. "No, they didn--didn't go today, they left yester--yesterday night. We fou--found out today."
It was the phone call in the early morning hours that had dampened the spirits of everyone years before, it was the reason her parents didn't celebrate her birthday like they used to before. "But mum and dad, they wanted to make it seem like we had them one more day." Taking a shaky, deep breath, Felicity buried her face into his sweater again. "Since we didn't know until the morning after, they deci--decided to let us have them one more full day."

That was probably the suckiest thing Drew had ever heard of and suddenly, he was angry. Not just angry. Pissed off. Why would anyone think that turning a living child's birthday into a death memorial for another child was even close to being a good idea? It was selfish. That's what it was, selfish. In Drew's mind, they had forced Felicity to give up her day just so they could have "one more day" with a child that was gone. Well, they'd never get that one day no matter what they did and turning a birthday into a deathday was just one major suckfest.
Drew kept his thoughts to himelf, pretty sure voicing them wouldn't help matters any. Maybe he'd talk to her about it when he wasn't so angry with her family, but now definitely wasn't the time.
"I'm sorry that happened," Drew said softly as he leaned into her and stroked her hair, kissing the top of her head. That was all he really could say. He couldn't fix it and didn't know what else to do.

Really, Felicity was kind of used to it by now, her birthday being pushed aside a bit. It didn't bother her too much, with practiced years of not letting it bother her, there wasn't much to complain about there, but the rest of the day on top of that made it worse, or at least made it seem worse. Well, that and the fact this was the first time she wouldn't be able to go with them.
Shrugging, Felicity didn't move otherwise. Just her shoulders moving up, and back down again.
It wasn't Drew's fault.
"You get used to it," she answered. "I don't really think that bothers me as much as this does though," she continued, pulling at the skirt of the dress. It was annoying, uncomfortable, and why did girls think dresses made them all pretty? What was wrong with a nice sweater and a pair of pants? And shoes that you didn't fall in or break your neck in? What about shoes you could run in? Trainers were excellent and right comfortable, why not wear those?

Drew had a number of questions about the dress, but wasn't sure if he should ask them. His questions tended to focus on things that really weren't important and he just ended making things worse. He figured the best course of action was to wait and see before asking anything about her outfit. If he needed to, he could ask her later and in the meanwhile, maybe he'd get some answers anyway.
The good news, if there was any good news to be had at that moment, was she was still the same girl he thought she was. She didn't care much for the dress and it probably wasn't more important to her than the snow. So why had she worn it in the first place?
"I really do think you look fantastic in it," he said honestly. "I was just really... excited about the snow and it kind of surprised me to see you wearing it is all."

Even though she tugged, the dress wouldn't go down below her knees. The length didn't bother her too much, she'd worn shorter shorts, but it was one thing, it wasn't split into two different articles. And, if she pulled too much to cover her knees, she was afraid of the material not covering enough on top. Really, the sash/belt thing had to have been there to help keep the dress covering all areas. Who would want to wear such a thing though?
Rubbing her cheek against his chest, she didn't really know what to reply with, or how to reply. It just didn't make sense.
"If you thought that and were excited, why did you make fun of me though?" Maybe there was something she didn't understand. But, he hadn't gone speechless, he hadn't stumbled over his words, he'd just laughed and told her the dress was funny looking.

"I didn't mean to make fun of you," he told her again, really hating those words. Teasing, joking, playing around. That's what it had been, not making fun. Sure, it all meant the same thing, but making fun just sounded so mean and that wasn't what he was doing at all.
"I was... I just really wanted you to enjoy your present and I thought you'd be cold," he told her. "I guess part of me thought you were teasing me so I was teasing back." Why else would she show up in a dress when he had made it clear she needed to wear pants, especially since she had her jeans over her arms? "I'm sorry if you thought I was making fun of you. That's not what I was doing, really."

"I know you didn't," she sighed. It was just frustrating, and he'd upset her when he'd said what he did, especially when the girls had been talking, and they said he'd think she was beautiful and such things. No, she didn't think a dress would make her look nice, but after hearing it for a while, while the girls were dressing her, she kind of had her hopes up. And just because he didn't mean to, didn't mean it wasn't how it came out.
At first Felicity wasn't really sure what he was talking about. Enjoy her present and not be cold? He hadn't even given her anything, had he? She tried to think about it, and really didn't remember anything but the flowers. But how would the flowers make her cold? Unless he meant...of course that's what he meant!
"The snow was my present?" she asked, a little confused, but a small smile tugging at the corner of her lips at the same time. Sitting up a bit, she turned to look at him, waiting for his response. He'd given her snow for her birthday?

The thing was, Drew thought Felicity looked great in whatever she was wearing. He got a little speechless when she had more skin showing, or when she was showing off a few more curves than usual, but that was mostly his hormones getting the best of him. This had been a rare occurence, when his giddiness wasn't a result of her wardrobe but of an expected reaction. What she had been wearing really hadn't mattered other than she wasn't able to fully enjoy what he had prepared for her.
Drew nodded back, almost apologetically, when she asked about her present. He was still convinced he had made a mistake and should have gone with a traditional birthday dinner and a present that required wrapping. "I worked up an atmospheric charm," he told her with a heavy sigh. He didn't even have the heart to lie and tell her a real present was due on delivery by the end of the week.

While she was still a little confused, the smile on her face widened as she became excited again. He got her snow for her birthday? It was such an odd idea, but she loved it. Snow for her birthday, and it wasn't fake if it was a charm, and when she'd caught a few snowflakes on her hand, they'd been cold, so it really was real snow.
Leaning into him, Felicity pressed her lips against his, not wanting him to think she didn't appreciate it, and she did. It was probably the best present ever. The snow had melted from the grounds and yet, she had snow inside!
Pulling back after moment, she bumped her nose against his, feeling better about things, but hoping he was too.
"Thank you," she told him softly, brushing her lips against his. "I've never been given snow for my birthday." Biting her lip, she really hoped she hadn't upset him in any way. "Do you think, maybe...we could go back in? And maybe play in it?"

The kiss surprised him, so positive he was that he had made a huge mistake with his stupid snow plan. The most frustrating part, of course, was that he had worked so hard on it, only to have it be a complete waste of time.
Or had it?
For the first time, since she had thrown down his flowers and stormed out of the room, he felt slightly hopeful. He had been thinking that he'd just lock up the room and count up his losses, having no desire to be anywhere near the snow if she was that upset by the whole thing, but now he was thinking that maybe the night wasn't a total bust after all.
"Yeah... if... if you want to," he answered, thinking his plans still might be able to work.

If he was giving her something, she didn't want it to go to waste. And snow? The blonde wasn't about to let the snow go to waste at all. The stuff was amazingly beautiful, and he knew she absolutely loved it, there was no way she could allow it to just snow down from nowhere and not get in on it one way or another. Snow inside! And it was for her!
Smiling, she nuzzled his nose gently and kissed him once more.
"When did I ever say no to snow?" she asked. The only problem she could forsee was tracking into the snow with the shoes she had on. They weren't hers and she didn't think they should be transfigured or ruined by the snow, but she wasn't about to go back to the dormitory either.
Standing up, she figured they'd find a way, she could even just walk in it barefoot. Turning, she held her hand out to Drew, though she didn't know with the heels how much help she'd be.

"Are you... sure you're going to be... okay in that?" he asked tentatively, not wanting to mistakenly insult her again by suggesting she change, but at the same time worried about ruining an outfit that, honestly, probably wasn't meant for the snow.
She had her jeans and he had the little duffel of extra clothes still stashed in the closet, but he was wary about suggesting it again. It seemed that everytime he offered her an article of clothing, she got a skittish as a house elf.
"You look great," he added quickly, just in case she still thought he didn't like how she looked. "I just don't want you to be cold or anything."

Again he confirmed how he thought she looked, and she wasn't sure how to respond. He kept saying it, but it just...didn't have the same feeling it would've had he said it well before she had to point anything out to him.
"Probably not in this," she answered him, leaning down and grabbing hold of his hand. "But I've got my pants, and if they're too cold or wet or something, you said you had something I could wear, right?" she asked him hesitantly.
Felicity wasn't sure how well his clothes would fit on her, or she assumed they were his, but if they had strings, she could tighten them around her, right?
Tugging on his hand to get him to stand up with her, she smiled and danced just a little bit, making sure not to fall over in her heels. "The only thing I'd be worried about are the shoes, because if I get cold, I have you right?"
It'd always been a rather tentative subject to talk about. Whenever the cold was brought up, and his arms being around with it, it seemed things didn't go very well, but she thought, maybe, just this once they wouldn't argue about it. And if they didn't, then that'd be a good thing.
