Lainee waited and when she saw everyone was ready she pointed at the board where words appeared. Lainee was sensitive to people's feelings and she came upon a little oriental girl who was looking a little pale. "Are you alright?"
5 Shruken Mushrooms Nettles Root Vial of cat's blood The juices of a stingray Fluxweed Frog Croak
First Part Grab your Nettles root and cut them. As soon as you have them properly diced toss them into your cauldron. NO your water should not be boiling yet. You are going to cut the Mushrooms into 5 thin stips giving you 25 thins stips. Toss in 15 strips and now set your cauldron's fire. There is vial of cat's blood and juice of the stingray. Mix those two together while your potion bubbles.
Lainee jumped when she heard a student question what she had on the board. Lainee glanced at it to make sure she didn't make a mistake. Nope. "No, sir, that is correct what's on the board. I do agree it's rather... unappealing. Especially when you have to drink it to get the potion to age you correctly. I do hope that this having the blood of cat does entice you students to stay away from this particular potion." Lainee glanced around hoping her message was read loud and clear.

Alright,t hat was that, he was done. There was no way rationally he was going near anyone, nor anything's blood and putting into a cauldron. Even if it was from a muggle blood bank it simplywasn't happening. Not in this year, or if lucky his life time. Blood, his hands, even if in some sort of container, no way.
"I'm through..." He claimed in a low mutter as he folded his hands before him and looked at them, not a sound to be heard form him.

"Nettles. I'm allergic," Arianna replied quietly, absently scratching her forearm. She smiled weakly at the professor. Arianna definately didn't want to fail the class, but if she had to end up in the Hospital Wing to do it, she wasn't sure it was worth it. Of course, one class out of the year wasn't so bad. They didn't use nettles very often.

Deryn had just been writing down the ingredients when she came to the vial of cats blood. "Oh that's disgusting!" Deryn burst out before she could think about it. She dropped her quill and pushed her chair back, as if something was about to bite her. She realized what a commotion she was making. Then she heard the professor speaking. Something about having to drink the potion with the cat's blood in it. "Professor J, you can't be serious! We don't have to drink it, do we?!" she had practically hollered at the professor. She glanced at Corey who also seemed a bit disturbed by the particular ingredient.

Lainee nodded her head contemplating Arianna's words when Corey's words drifted over to her. Lainee didn't even turn her head as she spoke to him. "Than you fail." Lainee focused back on Arianna. "Find a partner and if you contribute equally I'll give you both one grade. I don't want you getting sick."
Lainee stood up, but another student was yelling at her and Lainee was going to have to curb that real quick. "Young lady if you have a question you are to ask me politely or not at all. I will not be yelled at. Do you understand that?" Lainee was 2 seconds away from taking the girls' house points away.

"Sorry Professor Jamboreema," Deryn said, trying to sound sincere although she didn't really care. She figured it was best to use the professor's whole name instead of just calling her Prof. J or something. "My question was, are we going to drink this particular potion?" she asked politely. She didn't want points taken away, so Deryn tried to be nice.

Lainee smiled at the older girl trying to take the bite out of her words. Though Lainee was sure the girl would have preferred to just walk out. "If you want to age you will." Lainee sighed and explained. "No, I will not force you to, but if you want to earn your house 20 points as extra credit if you taste it and it works I'll award your house the points. 10 for tasting it and 10 for it actually working."

"What about those who can't drink it?" Arianna asked, already preparing the ingredients she knew wouldn't make her burst out in hives or boils. It wasn't quite fair, was it? to give extra credit that only she could not gain without possibly killing herself. Arianna needed all the extra points she could get and would fight for this one if she had to.

The mention of House points made the potion seem not so gross. Deryn went back to cutting up the Nettles root and doing all the other instructions. Cutting the Nettles more vigorously then she had meant too, the knife in Deryn's hand slipped and sliced the top of her finger. She dropped the knife and stifled a scream by sticking her bleeding finger in her mouth. The blood started to trickle down her hand and she tried to mop it up with her sleeve. She was fighting a losing battle. "Pofessor Jamboweema," she said with her bleeding finger still in her mouth," I tink we got a lwittle powblem 'ere."

Lainee opened her mouth to speak when Deryn sliced herself. Lainee marched up to her and plucked her finger from her mouth. It was a tiny cut, but she should get it cleaned. "From what I understand you're the only one who would die from the ingredients and unfortunately I need you to take Deryn to the hospice wing to get her finger cleaned out. Off you both go."

Post by Krissy Fleming on May 3, 2006 23:09:08 GMT -5
Krissy had begun cutting up the bettles, partnered with Arianna, she knew that was what she had to do. Though she thought the professor's last words were pretty cruel. Ari shouldn'y have to shapperone others to the hospital wing just because she can't drink the potion, it was silly. Why couldn't the girl go on her own? Or why didn't the professor choose someone else, like Corey who didn't seem to wanna go near the potion, though Krissy wasn't too sure why.
Krissy was concern, though, about the ingredients of the potion. Cats blood. That was just not right. "Might I inquire...." Krissy said loudly trying to word her sentence right, as she had already seen the professor go nuts at one of the other students for asking her a question "Just how the cats blood was obtained?" There was no way Krissy would go anywhere near it if a cat was killed to give it. Sure if it was taken like a muggle blood donation she would use it, because then the cat would still be alive, but any cruelty to animals she just would not stand for and would chuck up a very major fuss.

Lainee glanced at Krissy and walked very close to the girl. She bent over and spoke so that only Krissy could hear her. "Not real cat's blood. I could never truly harm an animal for a potion. This is a substitue and it won't work as well as real cat's blood, but it would suffice for teaching purposes. That is also why I didn't put it was a substitute on the board. The real potion calls for cat's blood and that's what you all will learn. So don't worry." Lainee stood tall and snapped for the final part of the potion to appear on the board.
5 Shruken Mushrooms Nettles Root Vial of cat's blood The juices of a stingray Fluxweed Frog Croak
Next Part When your potion is bubbling toss in the juices you have just mixed together. Your potion should turn magenta. As this only makes the potion violent toss in the remaining 10 strips of mushrooms. This should settle your potion immediately. Take that ball of fluxweed and toss it into your potion 10 minutes after yout potion settles. Stir continously for the next 5 minutes. After that throw in the part label frog croak and keep stirring for another 5 minures. When done gether your potion in a clean vial, label it, place it on my desk, and start to clean out your cauldron.

Deryn was glad to leave. Picking up bag, and putting her bleeding finger back in her mouth, she practically ran out of the classroom, not even bothering to wait for the other girl. She exited the classroom, and stood outside, waiting for the other girl. She could have smacked someone right then, but she left the room before it happened. Deryn looked around and took a deep breath. She was beginning to calm down, but she was still mad.
It was going to be a long trek to the Hospital Wing, or else Deryn would make it a long trek. She had no intention of getting back to Potions quickly. Evidently, Deryn was not going to get an Outstanding on her Potions O.W.L. Oh well. She didn't really need it to be an Auror did she? No, probably not.

"Here," Arianna arrived beside Deryn in a matter of moments, pulling a handful of tissues from her bag. They were clean, so the Gryffy didn't have to worry, Arianna just liked to keep a few in her bag during the cooler months when one seemed to catch the sniffles more often than not.
"I think she's insane," the girl commented, glancing back to the classroom as she held the tissues out for Deryn. She still felt it unfair that she had to leave just because of her allergy, but wasn't about to fight it today. Arianna might talk to Raynor about this, though. There was no reason for her to fail the class when she had been willing to work despite what might happen.

[Who said you failed the class Ari?]
Lainee watched the two girls leave her class. She shook her head. She could tell the allergic one didn't like being sent off, but it was only because Lainee didn't have a response to her question. That's why Lainee chose her to escort the girl to the hospice wing. Lainee kept walking between the desks waiting for the rest of the class to finish up.
