That Huffle Drew had met late last year, Caleb Something, came in and Drew had time for little more than a head nodding in greeting before the class started. Seanna gave the proper answer, but Drew felt it was a little one sided. He could see how it might be used for a good cause actually.
"It's how I got Layla to sit next to me," he answered with a grin before continuing a little more seriously. "But what if you give it to someone who's messing with you?" he proposed. "What if the guy is a total jerk and you give it to him so that he'll start maybe being nicer to people? I mean, if you're a decent person and the guy thinks he's your best friend, wouldn't he start acting like a decent person too?"

Before Layla could retort against Drew again, the class started to fill up and a tall Hufflepuff had approached them and took a seat. Taken by surprise, Layla felt her face flush a bit. She wouldn't have been able to deny him the seat even if she wanted to. She felt foolsih only because she had been caught by surprise. After their little chugging contest, they had realized that not only were they schoolmates, but they were also in the same year. Layla knew she would run into him again.
Before she could react, the Professor had started the lesson and she focused her attention back up front, hoping no one had noticed her. Layla had seen the Potion on the board when she had walked in and her mind had instantly flew to the books she had read in her room back in London, waiting for her 17th birthday to come. What she found most interesting was that the main ingredients were from unicorns. And as the discussion continued, Layla recognized the problem with the Potion's potential. Even with the information in her head brewing, she found that she wasn't ready to speak up yet. So she merely took her quill and scribbled a few highlights in a slow, even hand.

The first response, and Desideria wasn't sure how she liked it. A Make-believing potion? What was that? A number of potions tricked another into believing falsities, so what did the Hufflepuff mean? Thankfully, she continued with her explanation. And she was right, once the potion was given, it made the drinker believe the giver was the person's best friend. But she didn't agree with the girl's assessment that a normal person would find no use for such a potion. This was one that was known to keep men alive, women happy, and enemies under another's thumb. It sounded right useful to the right people and on the right markets.
An amused smile was turned on Andrew as he made light of the situation. True, if someone was feeling quite lonely, they might use the potion to get another to indeed, sit with them.
"Not necessarily, Mr. Thornton," Desideria answered the boy's inquiry. "This isn't a potion to change another's personality. It only changes the perspective they have to the giver of the drink. And of course, like all potions, it is only a temporary solution to a problem."
No potion was permanent, though the stains could be at times. "'Owever, five points to 'Ufflepuff and five points to Ravenclaw."
Flicking her wand at the board, it now read:
Prepare: 1.7oz Unicorn Hair 2.2oz Unicorn Hoof Shavings 3oz Essence of Belladonna 6oz Crocodile Blood 1 Sliver of Dragon's Heart 1oz Crushed Ginger 18 Crushed Nettles 7 Whole Abyssinian Shrivelfig Leaves
Mix together Unicorn Hair, Ginger, Nettles, and Crocodile Blood. Bring to a boil the Abyssinian Shrivelfig and stir nineteen times. Slowly add Unicorn Hoof Shavings and stir constantly while doing so. Allow to boil for 6 minutes. Add the Mixture and let boil 9.5 minutes. Add the Dragon Heart and remove from heat. Stir twenty-two times for 11 minutes. Add Essence of Belladonna and let stand 8 minutes before capping it and bringing it to my desk
"All ingredients you will need may be found on the back counter, please be careful with the amount you use; it's becoming 'ard to find some of these ingredients for a good price lately." An array of dragon hearts and unicorn hoof shavings littered the counter, waiting for the hands of students to carry them away.
(5 Points to Hufflepuff. 5 Points to Ravenclaw)

"No, not to change a person's personality," Drew said as he got up to get his supplies, thinking the professor misunderstood what he had meant. He knew very few potions could do that. "More like maybe giving them the opportunity to learn better habits or something. Like you could give it to them and then they wouldn't mess with you so much. Then again, they'd probably be even more pis... mad when they came off it and realized what you had done." Either way, Drew didn't agree with Seanna that it was an awful potion. Like any magic, it was only bad with the wrong intentions behind it.
But he'd gladly take the points he had earned. So maybe Tapia wasn't all that biased after all. He gathered the things he and Layla would need and brought them back to their table with a wide smile. "You ready for this?" he asked the Ravengirl.

Layla found that her opinion was in the murky limbo between that of her what her classmates had expressed. Before she could think of it in words, the Professor had already revealed the instructions to them. Layla stared blankly at the board, scanning the ingredients and procedure. For a split second she panicked when Drew walked away and left her alone. When he returned she wasn't sure if she should feel better or if she should panic more as they were about to start.
She couldn't understand how he could be smiling, but she nodded slightly. "Yea, I guess" she responded, barely above a whisper. She slowly reached forward and her hand hovered over a few ingredients, unsure of which to pick up first. She glanced at Drew, as if expecting approval, and finally selected the Nettles.

It wasn't until Drew's glasses were on his face that he realized Layla hadn't seen him with them. It wasn't a big deal, but he still gave her an embarassed sort of grin before turning to the board and making sure it matched what was in the book. Every once in a while the directions differed, and while Drew often stuck with what the book said, he had found that Tapia's way was usually the better potion.
"So, you want to start boiling the Shrivelfig Leaves while I mix that first bunch of stuff?" he asked. If she wanted to do it the other way around, that was also fine with him. Drew just didn't want her to think he didn't trust her with the harder part.

Lucas hadn't really been in the mood to be too social since school had started again. It had been a long summer and Lucas spent most of it back in his old library or working with his mom. Over the summer as well, Lucas had met up with his cousin whom he hadn't seen in years. Lucas hadn't forgot about her, he just hadn't seen her since they were kids and he really wasn't sure how to act around her. She was the only person he'd ever really talked to about Keith and it had been as bad as he had expected. And now that that was on his mind, Lucas preferred to just be left alone. He'd taken a seat in the back and hadn't spoken to anyone when he entered the class. Now that there were more people there and the lesson had begun, the Ravenclaw sat up a little more and made it look like he was paying attention and take notes, while he was doodled freely in his notebook.

Layla had been so tied up in listening and reading to the point where she felt there was something different with her fellow Ravenclaw, but was not sure why. When he had grinned at her, she had merely taken is as an encouraging gesture. She grinned back not really feeling better, but hoping for the best. Thinking over Drew's suggestion, she decided it was probably better. She handed over the small container of nettles to Drew and this time reached for the Shrivelfig leaves. It was just stirring, right? She knew how to count to 19.
Inspecting each leaf closely, she found that her partner had picked out nice, whole leaves. Glancing at the board and the Professor once more before continuing, Layla took out her wand and lit the fire underneath their cauldron. While she waited for the water to boil, she carefully lined up their 7 leaves on the bench, nudging them slightly here or there, trying to get them perfectly aligned before they were boiled.

Drew started in with the mixing of the unicorn hair, crushed ginger, crushed nettles, and the crocodile blood, making sure to get it to an even consistancy. He glanced only briefly at Layla as she set the fire and started with the leaves. He was sure she knew what she was doing, but at the same time, she was responsible for half his grade on this potion and he couldn't help but double check.
Drew contemplated asking Lucas to join them, but still didn't like the guy much and figured he could find another group to work with.

Seanna sat back and listened while Drew gave his perspective on the potion, but the Huffle girl couldn't really see how the same potion would benefit anyone in the end. Like the Professor had said, the effect would wear off after the giver has given all the potion to the drinker, and if they remembered what had happened, well, like Drew said, the drinker was going to be one very mad drinker after the fact.
Unless... there was someway around that the giver didn't have to be recognized by the drinker. If it changed the drinker's perspective of the drinker, why not give the drinker a false name and say it wasn't you in the end? That point there was making Seanna think while she went up to the back counter and got her Potions ingredients, carefully counting out only the amounts she needed for the potion so she wouldn't over do it any.
Walking back to her cauldron, Seanna plopped her ingredients down beside it, while she added water to her cauldron and lit it underneath, so the cauldron could begin boiling and be ready for the ingredients she was supposed to be putting in there. "Professor... " Seanna began, not sure how to word it properly so she wouldn't get misunderstood, "After the drinker has had the potion, would they remember who gave it to them?" Seanna asked, watching her cauldron boil, but not touching any of her ingredients just yet.
"It's just, since the potion can change one's perspective of someone else, would it be possible while the drinker was underneath the effects, to give them somebody's else's name so they wouldn't remember you?" Fair enough, the drinker would probably recognize the face of the drinker, but Seanna was thinking that was even a big if too. Since the potion was to change someone's perspective, she was thinking that maybe you could give them a false name, plus say you had a different face, too.
After all, the drinker was thinking that you were there best friend... they'd believe anything the giver was telling them right? Well, while underneath the effects of the potion, that was. It just gave her another reason not to like the potion so much.

"True, you may be able to rub off on another, but if they're under the false belief that you're their best friend, an illusion of sorts, what's to say all the time they spend with you as their best mate isn't an illusion as well?" If one rubbed off on another, who was to say it would stick after the potion wore off? It was all a mind game and in the end, it was an illusion that could get a person hit square in the jaw. Of course, while the woman had never personally found use for such a potion, she knew that if the idea was implemented in certain ways they did stick with the drinker of the potion. It really depended on the strength of the potion and how things were implemented.
Busying herself around with jotting down a few notes so she remembered who got House points, how many, and a few things about each students potion making. It was a log she'd kept the previous year and would be incinerated as soon as the term was over, but she thought it would be helpful to herself so she knew who was improving, who wasn't, and who needed just a little extra push.
"Yes dear?" she called back when she heard Miss. Marcellus' voice. "Not if you're sneaky enough," she winked in answer. "If you're sitting down in a pub 'aving a few drinks and someone slips up next to you and pours some liquid in your cup, you best not be continuing your drinking any. But, you'd likely remember the face of someone you sit down and converse with, unless their face is hidden somehow."
Listening to the rest of the young woman's question, Desideria shook her head slightly. "Even with a false name, they're going to remember who you are. Most cases, from what I gather, the giver of the potion is someone the drinker already knows one way or another, so names needn't be exchanged. 'Owever, if you were to slip the potion at random the drinker would still recognize your face. In a sense, while under the intoxication of the potion, the drinker becomes obsessed over the giver, therefore the giver's face is instilled in memory."

While she waited for the water to boil, Layla had tried to take down a few points that were being discussed that she hadn't thought of or read on. She started out with a very tidy and even handwriting until she realized how long it took her to write like that. She finally gave into a less even and more scribbly-sort and vowed to herself to redo them later.
Just when the cauldron reached a roaring boil, Layla dropped each of the 7 leaves in one by one. She then looked at Drew, then back to the cauldron. Yes. She was fine. "Almost done?"

"Yeah, I'm done," Drew answered, having taken the easy part of the process. His mixture was finished and put aside until it was needed, but first they hade a couple more steps. He glanced over at the board where the directions were written before turning back to Layla. "Did you stir it?" he asked. In the mean time, he would get the unicorn hoof shavings ready for the next step.

Layla saw Drew glance and the instructions and did so as well. "Oh..." she said, freezing in her stance. She quickly recovered and reached for the ladle. "I'm starting now, sorry." She looked away and into the cauldron where the leaves tumbled with the boiling water, trying not to look too embarrassed. She was glad Drew was there, she knew he wouldn't let her make a major mistake, and that thought itself calmed her down just slightly.
She dipped the ladle in and started counting in her mind while she stirred in a slow and steady motion. One... two... three
