"So where are you from?" Drew asked, taking another scoop of ice cream and licking it off of the fork he was using. Most firsties got freaked out by the older kids, but Abigail seemed to be handeling herself pretty well.

"A little town called Reading in England. West of London," Abby replied as she looked back at the Ravenclaw. "You?" His accent was odd; she had never heard it before. Nothing similar to England or even Great Britain, at least.

"Los Angeles," Drew answered simply. His home town was actually on the outskirts of the city, but no one had a clue where Malibu Hills was. It was a lot easier to claim LA and be over with it.

"In the U.S?!" Her voice gave away some incredulity as she slipped a forkful of ice cream into her mouth. She'd never met an American, though she had seen tourists from there.

"No, the Los Angeles they have in Scandinavia," Drew answered seriously. If he had been from Venice Beach, he might see the confusion (of course, he would have still said Los Angeles to avoid that very thing), but as far as he knew, there was only one LA. "You mean they have one in the United States too? Imagine that..."

She cocked an eyebrow, never hearing of an LA in Scandinavia. Of course, Abby wasn't stupid, but it was easy to believe an older student. Especially when he seemed like a nice guy.
Instead of saying anything, the Huffle just nodded her head slowly and took a bite of another strawberry.

Drew gave her a sideways look, not sure if she was dim, gullible, or just intimidated. He didn't think he was being that overbearing, but you never knew.
"I was kidding..." he said slowly. "Of course the one in United States."

"Yeah, I figured," she answered, finishing her slow nod. "That's a long trip, though. I've never met anyone from the States."

"There are a few of us Yanks here," Drew answered with a shrug. He took another scoop of ice cream and licked it off thoughtfully. "I think there might be more Yanks than Brits actually."

She nodded and stabbed at a grape before recalling the relief she had felt at a person coming into the kitchens and the reason for that relief. "Erm...you know how to get out of here, right?" Abby looked up from her grape, cheeks a bit pink from slight embarrassment.

Drew was a little confused and pointed to the door they had both come through. "Out the portal, down the hall and up the stairs?" he asked, wondering if that's what she meant. It wasn't that hard, but of course, he had been around school for a few years.

She nodded sheepishly. "Yeah, uhm, right. Just slipped my mind, I guess." Hopefully, common room being in the dungeons and all, she'd figure out the labryinth within a week or so. "So, what do you do around here on the weekends?" Not that she needed things to do; the make-up schoolwork from the first lessons of the year and just trying to figure out the schedule of the castle was enough for her to deal with.

"I go to Hogsmede," Drew answered with just a hint of smugness but mostly an air of a tease. "You sit around the Huffle Common Room and try not to get bored."
He grinned again to show he was teasing. "Naw... most of us just hang around by the lake or explore the forest," he told her. "And there's always Quidditch..."

"The lake's beautiful," she mused, "but quidditch..." She stopped half way through her sentence. The truth was, Abby had only seen one or two quidditch games and had never been on a broom. The connection to the wizarding world wasn't very complete under the supervision of her muggle father.

"What? You don't play?" Drew asked, surprised. he wasn't even the biggest quidditch fan in his family and he STILL didn't understand why anyone would not want to play the game.
