Dias started to wonder why the teacher hadn't shown up and he really wondered what it was all about. Pushing those thoughts aside he looked over at Lumdailea to see her rather excited for this class. He never said anything about it, for she probably wouldn't like to know she sometimes let up her cool features when she got excited for something.
"You think you know what were going to be taught today Lum? Or you just happy to be in class..." he said to her just loud enough for her to hear so he wouldn't draw attention to them.

Abigail picked up a last quill and stood up, brushing off dirt from her robes and looking around the room. She spotted Lianna in the front and quickly pulled up a seat next to her, hanging her bag from the chair and glancing from the tanks to the other first year. "Any clue what we're going to do?" she asked in a whisper. Lianna was becoming her go-to person when in need of answers.

She was broken from her seemingly hypnotic trance by the sound of her housemate's voice. "Erm..no, I don't...but, I guess it deals with...umm...whatever that is..." She claimed with a small motion of her head toward the tanks again. It was definitely weird.
Her gaze then shifted tot he rest of the room where the other students were, one a fellow Hufflepuff boy she had yet to meet at all. But, that could wait till the common room sometime. Besides, she was still interested in the tanks of, whatever the heck they were.

Anna was leaning back in her chair stairing up at the ceiling. She getting really tired of waiting for the prof. to show up. "I knew I shouldn't have come to class early." she thought. "I could have slept a little longer if I knew she wasn't going to be here right away."

Kamea swung into the entrance of the Defense against the dark arts class. Seeing that there were a lot of people there already, she looked for the professor. When she didn't see her she was relieved, that meant she wasn't late. She had had trouble finding this class and the stairs had been of no aide to her at all. Walking over to a vacant desk she sat down and then buried her head in her arms.

No sooner had Kamea walked through the door did the professor stride in after her, heading to her desk on the platform before the rows designated for the students. Her cheeks were slightly flush as if she had rushed.
"Take your seats, this is a classroom, not the Great Hall. No quills or parchment if you will, all of you should know better than that, you can't learn Defense Against the Dark Arts with ink or books. For those of who who do not know better, I am Professor Raynor, your obvious Defense instructor."
Her gaze ran quickly over the attendance and saw the vast majority of the names were highlighted in fiery letters. Good.
"Now, I'm sure most of you are wondering about the combined years, any ideas?"

Christina had smiled lightly and greeted each person inside of the room before the Professor walked it. She sat there listening to the Professor. She had remembered last lesson, but she still had out the ink and parchment. She silently put them away, then she continued to listen to the Professor. She had no idea why the Professor would combine the years. Make that, she knew the reason for doing so with the 3rd years, but she didn't feel like attempted to be stupid and embarrased over something so stupid.

A question meant the chance to earn points, and points was what the few in numbers Hufflepuff needed. Thus, Lianna jumped at the opportunity to do something. But it wasn't an energetic jump, more of an apprehensive one, as she was completely unsure of her answer.
"Its either...really important, or you just wanted to try a new theory..." She chimed after raising her hand briefly. Perhaps too briefly as she was unsure if Professor Raynor had even noticed it. But, the past was unchangeable to her knowledge.
In short: Too late.

" Something we can all use? " Dan said, voicing his opinion on the matter as he looked up to Professor Raynor from his current seat somewhere in the middle of the classroom. He set his bag down gently on the ground next to his feet. He had gotten into this habit recently to leave his things where he could see them.

Melody's head poked upon hearing the question. She seemed to appear there rather then arrive, as she most often did so. Most people would have thought her to be late, but in fact she had been in the classroom of the majority of the time. She was behind a Gryffindor male student, and she could barely been seen as she was indeed shorter then most of the students in the class, only standing at 4"10 at the age of almost fourteen.
Melody was a generally shy student, and even if she had known the question, she dared not to answer. As she spend about 90% of her time alone in the Forbidden forest, and the other 10% in classes and in the commonroom. She was also of a rather skittish nature, and found it quite hard to sit still in a classroom.
Melody was stumped by the question asked, as she did not have the slightest clue on why they would be learning with first and second years. But then judging the book on the teachers desk, they would be learning history. Not to mention the absense of the purple mat on the floor. She tilted her head slightly, making some of her gorgeous black hair fall in front of her pale green eyes.

"Miss Maylorn is our winner of the day, a gold star to the first years and a hearty five points to Hufflepuff. Our first year class is small, as is our second year so the two of you would be combined anyhow, especially since the second years are only expanding on an idea the First Years will learn today anyhow. As for the third, you are horridly lacking the skills in todays information as it was never properly covered, so welcome to review."
With that, the Professor moved behind her desk were the large, black velvet covered tanks stood. One of them gave a violent shutter and another let out a loud piercing sound.
"Can anyone tell me, in the best manner they know possible, what they believe a dark creature is?"

"Dark creatures are magical in nature and seek, most of the time for no reason, to harm. Though they aren't animals just another form of a magical being." Kamea explained as her hand went up.
She liked this class already. Mainly because no text book or notes were required. That was a big difference from all of her classes and she was thankful for her hand to take a rest. Her grey blue eyes stared up at Professor Raynor wondering what the tanks contained that would let out such a shriek sound.

Melody's hand shot up, and continued on the other student completed her little definition. Melody wasn't half bad at this course, but she had learned this many-a-times and it had sunk in. She said in a calm melotic voice to match her name, "Dark creatures are not animals. They are actually another form of magical being. Fantastic Beasts refers to many of them as "demons," not in a religious sense, but because it describes a key aspect of them all: they exist to actively do harm and damage. This harm is different from the harm that, say, a manticore would do, since the manticore would be attacking someone to eat them. In other words, it is a predator and that's what predators do to survive"
She put her arm back down on the table, and continued with doodling on her parchment.

Shriek it did indeed. And so suddenly that the girl, though joyed she got the question right, jumped in her seat slightly, her hands going to her ears until it ended.
"What...was that...." She mused to herself rhetorically as the brief shrieking subsided. This was much to her pleasure as her hands then removed themselves from her ears and were lightly folded now onto her lap.

Abigail remained silent and still in her seat; she wasn't the girl who answered anything in class unless a question was perfectly directed to her or no one else answered. And so, elbows resting on the table and her chin in one of her palms, the Huffle smiled as her house received points and shot the glance at Lianna. Her gaze soon returned to the covered tanks, though, and her hearing zoned in on Professor Raynor's voice.
