"Wait... I need Herbology?" Drew asked, sitting up a little straighter and nearly dropping his teacup. As their conversation had progressed, he had relaxed quite a bit, but this Drew was more than a glimpse of his old self ready to argue.
He had known since day one that he would need five NEWTs at least, nothing lower than Es, and he had kind of hoped that final one could be a throwaway class: History, Astronomy, Magical Creatures, or something. The only reason he had been focusing so hard in Herbology to begin with was it had seriously helped his Potions grade. He hadn't thought it would really be necessary.
He leaned back again and bit on his lip. He had thought sitting in the class would help with the freaking out he was doing lately, but this... this threw a wrench into everything. Now he needed it. "Runes won't work for the fifth NEWT?" he asked hopefully. He was pretty confident he could O that one once he got his focus back.

The sudden and unexpected outburst gave the usually very composed woman quite a start herself. So much so that she actually did drop her cup. A following series of curses that Raynor would probably hang Drew by his ears for ever repeating flew under her breath. There was a moment longer as the warm liquid seeping into her robes was magically dealt with.
"I professional opinion, yes. Herbology would be a highly recommended course. Aurors not only have to deal with knowing antidotes in poisons, but should be familiar with plants used in those poisons as well as various dangerous and helpful ones and their properties."
Seeming to have completely recovered from the clumsy accident, the cup was now refilling itself. It was about the extend of her wandless capabilities, but it proved helpful. The idea of taking Herbology as a necessary class, seemed to bother the Ravenclaw more than she had originally believed.
"Well, I assume you could use Runes. Though Herbology would prove more readily useful. My Herbology N.E.W.T.s score is what got me into Auror Training." Which was the truth. Potions, Charms, and Transfiguration had all been exceptional, but her DADA had been simply adequate. Herbology had balanced the equation... just barely.
And now, the question. "I know that you were caught in the burning Greenhouse, Drew... but I do recommend the class."

Drew flinched a little at the mention of the fire, but otherwise kept on with his train of thought. "I didn't even take the stupid OWL for that one," he argued. "I can pass the other ones. I know I can. And Runes too. But I don't know if I can make any guarantees about Herbology. that one is just... just... I'm going to need some time I think."
The small rant over, he took a deep breath and looked at her. "I'm sorry about the Greenhouse. I... I didn't know what else to do," he said softly. "My dad said he'd pay for it."
