The school term was just picking back up, many of the students minds in need of reprocessing on all of the material learned in school that they had been trying with much efficiency to forget and would now scramble in an attempt to relearn. However, Tamis Raynor, whom had remained at the castle during the break, had retained much that was left off before the break, including a detention with a certain Slytherin, that no doubt the Slytherin had sooner wished she had forgotten.
The Deputy was seated behind her desk, staring at a rather interesting looking creature glaring back at her through the glass of its tank. It was one of the newer Dark Creatures to the wizarding world -- well, newly discovered anyhow.
The Ministry had deemed it safe enough for her to nick one of them for her Seventh Years to observe. That and she had reminded them that there was an excellent magical creatures expert on the staff that might be able to learn something of it. She meant to take him to Becca sometime before the return of classes.
Sighing and finally tiring of the stand-off, Tamis leaned back in her seat, awaited her detentionee.

Charlie was almost sure she could have escaped this fate. She had planned to be sweeter than sugar and honey put together just for the deputy headmistress, and yet the plan was a failure. And then now there was no way back. Especially with a elf watching her the entire time, threatening to tell the professor of any escape.
As she shrugged off the elf at the door, she knocked on the door with three reluctant, yet heavy knocks. I wish detention was actually fun, she thought before there could be any answer from the other side of the door, Merlin, if only detention was actually interesting...

"Come in, Miss Jones, its open," the professor called out, waving a hand carelessly at the door so that it swung open with a small squeak -- and then closed with a little bit more zeal behind the Slytherin girl as she entered.
"Well, come in, come in," she told the girl curtly, letting her own gaze settle back on the demon-like creature lounging in the tank. "What do you think of him?" She asked the girl, as the dark creatures gaze now divided between the two of them, yellow eyes bearing an uncanny sense of intelligence.
The Professor's expression remained void of emotion. The girl was here for nearly having killed Tamis zooming around a corner, inside the castle mind, at full speed on a broomstick. But what fate was now to be dished out to her was difficult to surmise.

Charlie's steps were heavy but steady-paced, her rear almost without mercy with the animate closed door. She gave a once-over to the room. "Not bad," she said to herself, although she had been there once before on account of Drew's skateboard-on-COMC-hut incident. Of course, she wasn't crazy about the books that surrounded the office. She almost grew breathless, wondering who would spend all that time... reading.
"That thing?" Charlie pointed to creature in incredulity. By then, she was sure that she wouldn't come out alive, much less the same. "I'm not gonna hafta feed that thing, right?" She looked back at Raynor, a look of awe and desperation stitched in her green-blue eyes.

The truth of the matter was that Tamis did not indeed spend her long hours reading, she detested books with a passion. Most she had required during her auror years, along with half the useless gadgets that surrounded the room as well. She had barely touched a quarter of them ((though Drew had managed to get through them all in a matter of months)) and they made for good show.
"I'm not sure, Miss Jones." The Professor replied, fighting back a laugh at horrified look on the girl's face when she spotted the current source of Tam's curiosity. "It seems to take well to meat, though I've never tried Slytherin girls before."
How she managed to keep a straight face was beyond Raynor.

"Whoa!" Her eyes widened as she held out her hands in defense, "I'll give you advice-- I don't taste so good. Too salty and thick." With that, she licked her own hand, theatrically making a face. "I think Hufflepuffs have that soft meat that that THING will like."

"But the Hufflepuffs are such rare and endangered specimens. And thing is probably just the name to call it, as it has yet to receive an actual name or ministry classification," the professor chuckled. "Don't worry, Miss Jones. I won't be feeding you to it, though one of my seventh years might."
With that said, Raynor help up a large pile of papers in her hands. "This will sadly be the torture bestowed upon you, my dear. I think you might prefer my friend here. A complete list of forbidden items in the school, including those that cannot be ridden in the school. This is the list from the caretaker's office, most of which was composed by a Mr. Filch from my time. I have to give this back, and I'd like a copy but do not have time to write it myself."
Tamis did not want a copy at all, though she would have in her youth, having purposely tried to own everything on that list. But it was the only task that she could thing of giving the girl that would be a hated chore. The book was at least 5 inches thick.

"You kiddin' me?" Charlie looked at the book with eyes wide open. She trudged near the book, and looked at the professor with pleading eyes. "No fair... I can't handle all that? Isn't there a child labor law? My hand'll fall off!" She rattled on with her complaints. At that point, she was sure that she was getting the worst of the worst.

In response, a single eyebrow raised in a dignified arch, the professors expression for the most part indifferent as the complaints rushed out of the girls mouth, though occasionally her left eye twitched and her lip thinned, but beyond that, no other sign to her emotions was given.
"If your hand falls off, Miss Jones, I believe we have a very capable nurse and if you feel yourself not able to finish it within one sitting, there is always tomorrow night and the night after," the Professor suggested in a would-be-calm tone. "Perhaps next time you will at least have the common decency to watch what corridor you are plummeting your broom down and into whom at that."
Tamis could still feel the bruise. Taking recent events into prospective, she was quite glad she had fallen on her rear rather than on her face, at the least.
The creature in the tank began to watch them with all the more intrigue.

Charlie gave an exasperated gasp. "Come on, prof! That punishment's harsh, way too harsh, man. I've got to be working my hand and my you-know-what while you sit back and enjoy my torture?" She couldn't help her words, she was expelling verbal vomit, and didn't show no signs of stopping. "Dang, you got it good," she put her hands on her hips and scoffed.

One thing that Raynor was not used to was a student actually talking back to her. Not talking back, but right out arguing. However, a wry bark of a laugh escaped her lips with a more rueful touch to it than anything else.
"Easy, Miss Jones?" She asked dryly with a touch of irritation. "Loitering around the school, completing a bit of homework every now and then, and ruling the Quidditch field is too complicated? I would gladly switch places."
Staying up to all hours of the night and day doing paperwork for the school. Acting as Headmistress more often than not due to what their actual Headmistress deemed more important than the schools everyday functions. Dealing with the backstabbing Ministry and a bit more complicated manner in the wizarding world. Having another life now growing within her. Nay, the young lass' was only worried about a detention? Charlie was quite confused about who had it easy.

"Yeah? Me, too!" Charlie said as she snatched a quill from the far corner of Raynor's desk. She was word-vomiting (courtesy of an overload of candy), yes, but she knew how to keep her distance.
At least Raynor rules the school, Charlie thought glumly as she opened up the book, it making a hideous thud. Because as a typical Slytherin, total dominance was a goal for her.

Leaning back in her chair, Tamis pursed her lips to the point that they threatened to disappear completely. She should take points off for that and in any other situation, she would have. But the girl's task would be enough torture as is. The deputy was capable of mercy.
However, watching the girl, she resisted the urge to snort. Wanted to switch places did she? The ignorance of a child, ignorance that Tamis once had, but years of experience had finally pounded out of her. If only. It would serve her right.
The creatures' bright eyes continued to glare through the glass at them, its uncanny intelligence gleaming with all the more curiosity. Then, as if it acquest to both Professor and Slytherin's thoughts, it curled its left hand into a fist and then slowly uncurled its index finger first at Charlie and then at Tamis.
What the outcome of that simplistic gesture meant, neither could guess ... if they had even been paying enough attention to notice it.

Charlie groaned and grunted through the rest of detention, the night not letting her catch up. At last, she had gotten through a good quarter of the book when she looked up pleadingly at the professor. Now that she had torture in her hand, she had almost and long forgotten their verbal dispute. She had thought it over, and was more than relieved when she wasn't mauled. At least she thought so.
"Can... can I leave? I'll do the rest tomorrow, I swear," Charlie said, ready to come out with her completely false excuse. "I gotta big test tomorrow mornin'."

The castle's cloak donged the time from without the classroom, ending a finally, resounding ninth time. Tamis gave the girl that much credit, she had kept diligently though her task, despite all of the sound effects that had accompanied it.
And, Tamis herself had managed to get through her Seventh Years extended essays on the second rise of You-Know-Who, cringing every time his name was used of course. They were horrid papers, despite her encouragements, none of them seemed to have taken her advice and approached someone such as herself on the topic.
"Yes, Miss Jones. You may go for now. Leave what you have done here with me. I expect you hear at the same time tomorrow night," she told the girl, still bent over the last three botched essays.
