Elliot Doggerel was in a significantly poorer mood than his first week at the school. He was cold, and he was cranky. He sat wrapped in his robes in the ricketty old chair behind his desk, reading over essays from the other class. The board was again crammed full of notes, all vying angrily for choice spots of attention. Lists were slowly garbleing, and the large bold heading was trying to squash the subheading to the point it could not be read at all. Knights of WaLpurgis He had the paper open to the criss-crossword and was doing his best to work out just what a slumgullion was.

Drew walked into the room and paused as he read the board. Most of the notes were moving around too much to pay any mind to, but the Heading caught his eye, squashed as it was.
"Isn't that from a Monty Python movie?" Drew asked.

Elliot furrowed his brow and checked the puzzle clue again:
Diagonal 3 1/2. Slumgullion
"No. Four letters last letter doubl-" but he clamped his mouth shut and looked up. Drew Thornton wasn't speaking in reference to his crossword puzzle at all. That, and Elliot didn't have the foggiest idea what he was talking about.
"I haven't the foggist what you're talking about, by the way. This is History, not Care of Magical Creatures, or what have you. I completely expect you to abandon all other knowledge you've accumulated outside of this classroom when you show up," he said firmly.

"That'll be hard," Charlie commented as she took a seat with a new Qudditch Quarterly hidden behind the chunky history of magic book. Even with the scribble and mess of words on the board just screaming for a potential writer's cramp, she wasn't the very least alarmed or even ready to copy them, much less study them.

"All other knowledge? If we did that, you'd have an awfully boring class," Drew challenged, frowning slightly. "I mean, most of the stuff we talked about last time was based on stuff we had heard outside this class, right?" He had actually enjoyed the debates and had been looking forwarde to a new round.
Looking forward to a history class? Had he really thought that?

Bent over his puzzle, Elliot rolled his eyes and pressed forward with the farcical conversation. "Hard or boring or not, it's expected of you. Only History in the History of Magic classroom. I'm afraid I must insist."
With three tiny pops, his Shoulder Angels appeared and started whining into his ear about the social ramifications of alienating people with sarcasm and all that rot. But what did they know about anything - they were just Shoulder Angels. He shrugged them off and looked up.
"Hope you understand."

Drew glanced at Charlie, wondering if she caught the implications as well as he did. "If that's the way you want it," he answered the professor, shrugging a little bit. "Then I understand."

A light knock came from the doorway. A tall man stood there peering into the almost vacant classroom. Only two students, one of whom he had met already sat there. The teacher, who seemed like a quite...complicated man was talking to the boy in a candy coated tone.
"Not a big turnout I see?" he asked, now taking a step into the class. He leaned on the doorway, crossing his arms as he leaned back.

Drew glanced up at the intruder and saw it was the man he had met in the front hall. The guy had claimed to be an Auror and if it was true, there had to be a reason he was in their History class. Drew turned his gaze onto the History professor, wondering what Doggerel would do.
Another glance back and forth from one man to the other and Drew couldn't help but wonder if Doggerel was Deva. What other explaination would there be?

Elliot followed the eyes of Drew Thornton to the door, where the source of the voice stood. The man was tall and dark, didn't appear to be possessed of the broken spirit that educators seemed to lug around. Strange things happened to people who had to speak with children all day and call the toilet "potty" and had to stop themselves from calling it "Histowy of Magic" in adult company.
No, this man was definately a man of the world and deserved a proper welcome. A few different responces passed through his mind before Elliot opted for passive aggressive.
"Don't now what you're talking about - this is a fine institution. Perhaps you're the courier. I was expecting owl post, but well, budget cuts..." Standing up, he went to the man with his quill making to sign for whatever package the "courier" had.
When he felt he was out of earshot of the students, he lowered his voice and glared at the auror. "Wickliff, I thought I made it clear that I'd kill you the next time I saw you. Lost the will to live, have you?"

Brodie gave a slight laugh at Elliot's hushed words. "No, I just wanted to see you," Brodie said in a equally hushed voice. He gave the man a cheeky smile. Feeling the hatred come from the man infront of him he decided he should push him a bit further.
"No, I'm not acutally. I'm from the Ministry sent here to see if everything is going smoothly since well you're the new teacher and all. Just wanted me to pop in and do a nice little sit in." Another smile splashed itself onto Brodie's face as he pulled out a letter from the Minister.
"Permission is all there. You don't mind do you?" Brodie asked, giving Elliot a mock worried face.

He may have been an Auror, but Drew didn't like the guy's style. When they had first met, he had tried to convince Wickliff to see Raynor, but the guy had insisted on seeing the Headmistress. It didn't matter who he saw. Drew doubted either woman would have given their permission to have Ministry sitting in on classes.

Lily entered the class, awake and alert. History of magic had fast become her favorite class. But there he was. That strange man she had met in the library. She sat in her seat and began flipping through her history of magic book, looking for something interesting to read before class.

Elliot exhaled tersely from his nostrils and snatched up what he knew was a phony missive. Brodie was incredibly infuriating, with his tall stature and calm mannerisms. The man certainly had a pair if he thought to come and pester Elliot, especially after their last encounter a few years ago. The pup had certainly come into his own, grown a few feet and had a nice shiny badge. How he hated the new youth.
"Everything looks to be in order," he said in a more public voice and a phony smile, for the sake of the class. "Have a seat there, next to Drew - he'll keep you out of harm's way, I'm sure."
Only then did he turn to stalk away from the auror, and when his back was turned from prying eyes, he pulled a face that indicated he was none too happy with the day's development. Aurors in the castle with fake missives. No good.

"Why thank you Elliot." Brodie said as he took a seat. Breathing in quietly he let his eyes wander the class for anything...unusual. Though, to his dissapointment nothing was out of order. Making a mental note to come back some time in the future he let his eyes move back to the head of the classroom.
Getting out a notepad he jotted down a few little things and looked up, waiting for the last few students to enter and for this lovely class to start.
