"If nothing else, the extra studying can help prove how serious you are, right?" Drew answered with a crooked smile which fell as soon as she named the two subjects he really didn't want to deal with. Well, those and Astronomy. He had actually been pulling decent grades in Herbology before... well, before. Now, it just kind of freaked him out.
"I don't think anyone really uses History," Drew answered, getting a buzz of a conversation he once had in the library with... someone. "You're gonna need that though if you want to be a healer," he finished, nodding to the book. Dang, he couldn't even bring himself to say the word?

"That's true. Hopefully it works; I really hope something does." Drew was probably right about proving she was serious. And she was serious, really she was.
"I know I need this; my biggest problem is catching up. Amazingly, it's actually more exciting when it has a point. I pretty much gave up on trying last year. When I started hating Shaw, I lost all hope and just forgot everything," Keagan stated with a shrug. "What about Potions? I passed that one, but only barely."

Well, that was interesting. He had known a couple of students hadn't liked the man, but most of the Ravenclaws had really liked him. Probably because he had bent over backwards to help Kellen out of the identical situation. Dang, traitorous, two-faced, lying, son of a... Shaw, not Kellen.
"Potions. I'm pretty good at those," he told her, his tentative smile returning. And again, it was because of Shaw that he had been having such success. The man had pointed out how important it was to know what actually went into the brews. He had focused more in Herbology and his potions grade had improved as well.
He shook the thoughts off. This was the problem. He'd start thinking about one thing and get sidetracked on what had happened or what had led up to it or how he could have done it differently. He really needed to focus.
"Potions. I'm good at those," he repeated, determined to get it right. "What are you guys working on?"

Of course, Keag didn't like Shaw because he hadn't done much of anything to keep her from getting hypothermia the year before. There she had been, lying in face first in the snow, and he had continued with his lesson, leaving her to freeze. For all she knew or cared, the man deserved the rumors that flew about him. Keagan, too, had to shake her thoughts away, though they were altogether different than what Drew's were.
Her mouth opened and closed a few times, like a fish breathing, as she tried to remember the answer to Drew's question about Potions. Then, she realized that there was no such memory to recall.
"I honestly couldn't tell you what they're studying; I haven't really talked to anybody about my fix for my predicament yet. Anybody except you, that is."

"Well, I could tell you the stuff we're doing," Drew offered, before stopping to check and make sure he still actually remembered. Professor J was a bit odd, but yeah, he was pretty sure they had been coveringsome of the more commercial Potions as well as a few remedies. There was another bit of information that might actually help both of them out. "Do you remember what was on the OWL? We could start with those."

"It was the practical part of the Potions exam that really stuck it to me," Keagan replied with a frown. The written part wasn't too difficult. Most of it was essay writing about the importance of such and such a potion, with importance being relative to the individual; Keag certainly didn't find most of them important. All those essays required was the ability to rattle off tidbits of information that had been drilled into the students' brains since day one at Hogwarts. It was remembering the ingredients and then getting them into the cauldron that was more difficult.
"I kept zoning out," she continued. "I really screwed up my Draught of Peace. That I remember really well. I passed the exam as a whole, but not by much. If I remember correctly, there were a couple Draughts on there, too. You know, the strengthening and disorienting ones? I don't remember what they're called."

"The Strengthening Solution?" Drew prompted, getting comfortable on the floor. "And there are a couple of disorientaion potions. You probably want the Confusion Concoction or the Confusing & Befuddlement Draught. They're pretty similar either way."
