The beginning of March meant a number of things to a number of people, but for Drew, it only meant the beginning of the end. He had less than four months left at Hogwarts, four months left with Felicity, and four months left to make sure his application was in order.
He had asked most of his professors for a letter of reference, not sure if it would help him get into the Auror Academy, but figuring it wouldn't hurt. Most of the teachers had gotten back to him, but one who hadn't was Professor Snow. Drew was certain that if he needed recommendations, getting one from the Charms professor would be especially important.
Still in his school clothes, but looking slightly unkept this late in the day, Drew had spent most of his afternoon sitting in the hallway between the man's office and his classroom. If Snow showed up, Drew would see him.
To keep himself occupied, he had cracked open one of the Defense books he had borrowed. With his glasses perched on his nose and his long legs stretched out across the hallway, he wasn't even aware someone was approaching.

Henry ran a agile fingered hand through his brown hair, staring down through his spectacles into The Compendium of Curses, which he held open with his free hand as he walked down the hall. He was quite intent upon making his way to his favorite study location, the kitchens, and his legs carried him automatically through the halls of the castle from Gryffindor tower.
As he made his way down the charms corridor, he didn't bother looking up at all, he always figured, if he hugged the wall for the most part, people could make their way around him. In his peripheral vision, he saw a column ahead, and moved slightly towards the center of the hall so as to avoid it. As he walked on, he felt his legs impact something that was only partially solid, and he tripped forward.
Books, quills, and ink bottles flew from his partially opened schoolbag, and thudded, lightly clattered, and smashed upon the stone floor of the hall. Ink splattered the books, and spread across the floor in a black puddle. As he hit the floor, Henry's spectacles flew from his nose and shattered upon the floor, ink seeping across the remnants.
"Oh dear." said Henry, rising to his hands and knees, and feeling around on the floor for his glasses, which he didn't seem to know had shattered. "Where...oh...this is no good..."

As the boy tripped over his legs, it occured to Drew that he should have learned by now that stetching out across the hall was not the best idea. As tall as he was, he just wasn't used to people not being able to see him and it wasn't until someone got hurt that he remembered.
"Aw, man! I'm sorry!" Drew cried out, throwing his book to the side and scrambling to help the other boy gather his things. The mess was easy enough to clean up with a flilck of the wand, but the Ravenclaw was more concerned about any injuries he may have caused. "Are you okay?" he asked, feeling awful about what he had caused.

Henry looked over his shoulder, he couldn't quite see who was talking, at least not at this range, where everything, for Henry at least, was blurry without his spectacles. His brain finally assembled what had happened in full. He must have tripped over the person's legs.
His hands found the frame and shards of his glasses, and he realized that they were destroyed. He pulled out his wand and flicked it at the remains, thinking Oculus Reparo as he did so. He picked up his newly fixed spectacles, and put them on, pushing them up the bridge of his nose with the index, and middle fingers of his right hand.
Once again, he looked over his shoulder at the person who was talking. Henry rarely conversed with his fellow students, and rarely made an attempt to know the people around him. The Head Boy, however, was not the kind of person you did not know on sight at Hogwarts.
"I-I'm fine." said Henry, nervously beginning to gather his things.

"I'm really really sorry," Drew appologized again, thinking his feet might be better used to kick himself and then he wouldn't keep tripping people. He repaired one of the broken ink bottles and siphoned as much ink as he could off of the books and floor before depositing it back where it belonged.
He moved to gather some of the scattered belongings, looking over at boy he tripped. The boy didn't look familiar, but it was a big school. The Ravenclaw figured he'd better introduce himself considering he had just made the guy fall on his face. "I'm Drew... Drew Thornton," he said, biting back his usual nice to meet you. It was hard to say when the meeting hadn't been all that nice.

"Henry...Lordings." said Henry off handedly. "I was wondering what I tripped over."
After collecting all of his things, he secured them in his bag and zipped it closed. He then straitened up, and offered Drew his hand to shake.
"In any case..." said Henry "...It's a pleasure to meet you."
Great., Henry thought to himself, Of all the people you could trip over... Cursing his clumsiness inwardly, Henry waited for the Head Boy to take his hand and shake it.

"Yeah... that was me," Drew answered sheepishly, getting to his feet and brushing his hands off on the back of his pants. The boy seemed to be quiet and a little introverted, which only made Drew feel worse for tripping him. It was an awful first impression and he only hoped Henry wouldn't hold it against him.
He shook the other boy's hand and offered him a smile. "I'm really sorry. I've got to learn that the hallway probably isn't the best place to read, y'know?"

Henry let a smile play across his face at this, It sounded like something he might have done not long ago.
"It's fine." said Henry, It wasn't, after all, exclusively Drew's fault. "I probably shouldn't have been reading and walking at the same time."
He looked up and down the corridor for a moment, and then at the door next to the chair in which Drew had been sitting. It was the door to the Charms Professor's office.
"Waiting for Professor Snow?" asked Henry, noting that Drew had the distinctly bored look of a man who had been waiting for quite a while.

"Been there, done that," Drew answered with a crooked smile. He had given the walking and reading a try or two as well and had ended up with similar results. Again, he wondered when he'd learn.
At the question, Drew looked towards the door as if expecting the man to appear at the mention of his name. No such luck. "Yeah. I got some stuff I need to talk to him about," he answered. "He's not in his classroom either, so I just figured I'd wait here for him." It had been a while and Drew had a feeling the man wouldn't return until maybe after dinner.

Henry nodded at Drew's words, trying not to look as though he thought sitting outside a professor's office all afternoon was a bad idea. He looked up and down the hall to see if Professor Snow was coming and then said.
"Well if he's not here, then he's liable to be down in the teacher's lounge."
He grinned apologetically and continued.
"At least...that's where I saw him last."
Henry was the kind of person who was extremely observant; In the three or so seconds he had glanced into the teacher's lounge on his way past, he had seen, and, more importantly, identified four professors, and two ghosts. He was absolutely sure he had seen Professors Snow and Davenport chatting.

"On the second floor?" Drew asked as if there were another staff room in the school. The Ravenclaw had checked in there first, found the place empty, and had continued to the fifth floor. Of course, that had been a while ago and Snow might very well have ended up there after Drew left.
"Cool. If he doesn't come up soon, I'll check again on my way down for dinner," Drew answered, knowing it wouldn't do much to go down. With his luck, Snow would take a different route and Drew would just miss him again.

Henry smiled weakly, keen, though for some reason he didn't want to admit it to himself, to keep the first real conversation he was having with a fellow student in quite awhile going. He cast around for a subject, and found it quickly.
"So why are you waiting for him?" asked Henry before realizing in full just how abrupt and intimate that question must have been. "...I-If you don't mind me asking?" he added quickly.
He had drawn himself up to his full height by now, and had thrown his now-full pack over his back, standing directly in front of Drew. For some reason, and he didn't know why, the Head Boy seemed, to Henry, an inexplicably trustworthy personality; Henry found himself keen to get to know the man better, and wasn't sure why, he usually didn't give fellow students a second thought.

Having decided to just wait it out, Drew retook his seat against the wall. It was convenient and really not that uncomfortable. The only difference is he made sure to keep his legs in closer.
"I've got some stuff I need to ask him to get my application papers in order before I send them off to the Auror Academy," Drew answered with a small shrug and a smile. He still wasn't convinced he was cut out for the job, but everyone else he talked to said he was and it had been a dream of his since his first year.

"I've got some stuff I need to ask him to get my application papers in order before I send them off to the Auror Academy,"
There were few things about Drew that had caught Henry's attention as effectively as the mention of the Auror Academy, But Henry, who had been looking about for nothing in particular, looked around at Drew so fast it put a crick in his neck.
"You're trying to become an Auror?" asked Henry, massaging the back of his neck with one hand.
Henry's long time dream had been to be a dark wizard catcher.

"Yeah," Drew answered, nodding sheepishly. It was something he had been working towards since the second half of his first year. He had a number of people in his life who told him he as a shoe in, but he knew that in life there were no sure things. All he could do was to try his best.
"My folks aren't too thrilled about it, my mom especially," Drew said with a small shrug. "She's trying to get me to go home saying I can study there, but they have a better program here. Besides, if I go home, it'll just be easier for her to bug me about doing something else."
