It was a concept concieved with Charlie, born out of necessity, and hopefully nurtured for a higher purpose. The Ministry still hadn't reinstated Defense classes, something that distrubed the Ravenclaw given the state of the world at the moment. The more he discussed it with friends and even a few acquatances, the more he realized he wasn't the only one.
It was Charlie that had suggested they study on their own, gain strength to fight the Deva. Drew had already been working on something along that line, but it was the Slytherin who helped him find his direction. With the lack of Defense classes and the half-assed pick-up of the curriculum into the other classes, they all needed help. While some students would rejoice in the lack of a lesson, the Head Boy knew that there were a few who might jump at the chance to join his study sessions.
And really, that's all they were. He had sent notes to all of the prefects, letting them know to spread the word among their houses, telling them that they were going to focus on Transfiguration, Charms, and Potions. They would take it as they wanted, but there were a few people that Drew spoke to personally, ldetting them know the true purpose of the group. They were the ones he counted on coming the most.
He had set up in an ordinary classroom, unused and empty save for a few tables and chairs. It had been decided to run the sessions out in the open so that no ulterior or sinister purpose was suspected. They were just running a study group. Head Boy and Head Girl hard at work. The administration knew they had given them the badges for a reason.
Drew was perched on the teacher's desk, his complete collection of school books in two piles next to him. When the others came... if the others came, he'd ask them what in particular they wanted to work on and let them know what he thought they should cover as well.

Tianne had been devastated when Defense against the Dark Arts was canceled. The girl needed that subject, at least to help her with her confidence when it came to the wizarding world. She knew that it wasn't the safe, fun, happy world that she once thought of it to be, as there were people, even things, out there, just waiting for someone to hurt. Cruel, really, but it was the truth, and there was no point avoiding the truth.
The young prefect was ecstatic when she found out about Drew and Charlie's 'study group'. Really, with the fact that they were learning no form of defense at all, unless you count fire as being one, so Tianne literally jumped at the chance. She didn't even take the fact that she was basically going to be doing another class into consideration; she was too excited about the idea.
On the day of the said 'study group', Tianne decided to set off to the sixth floor a bit early. She didn't think to bring anything, except for her bag, which contained the usual, a pit of parchment, ink, and all the normal stuff you'd find in a girls hand bag. With her wand tucked into her pocket, the young girl entered the near empty classroom. Walking up to Drew, the head boy, and co-founder of the study group, Tianne smiled. "Now, I'd have to say that I expected a bigger turnout than this..." She winked at the older boy.

The news about a study group being formed had intriqued Sydney. So it was no surprise that she found herself entering the classroom. A practically empty classroom, that was. The first year had followed Tianne, only because Sydney hated being the first one to arrive in a class. Sydney's eyes widened as she saw that only herself, Tianne and Andrew had arrived. She heard Tianne comment that she'd expected a bigger turnout, and Sydney couldn't help but agree. Of course she was early, and with all the excited whispering she'd heard between classes, there should be a few more interested students arriving.
"Hello." The first year barely knew the Head Boy, and she'd only had a brief encounter with Tianne on the night of the sorting. Maybe this was a chance to be able to practice getting to know her housemates better. As well as learning how to defend herself. If it was one thing Sydney did understand, it was that something dangerous was happening. That much had been apparent when Headmistress Raynor had made her start of term speech.

Drew smirked as Tianne came up, followed by Sydney. He had been expecting to see Charlie show up first, but maybe she got tied up with something, and while he was a little surprised to see the first year joining them, the seventh year thought that was kind of cool that she came along and he smiled when she approached.
"I was actually expecting a bigger group too," he joked with Tianna, though he was wondering if he was the only one really concerned about the state of things. At least he had the two girls showing up. "Of course, if it's just going to be us, we can just do this things in the Common Room from now on."

"What is it just the smart ones who join study groups?" Hiro asked as he caught the last of Drew's speech. It sounded like there were only ravenclaws showing up for this meeting even though there should be more. The blind Ravenboy was sure that Drew had been hoping for a bigger turn out than this...especially with the reason behind these study sessions.
Though Hiro agreed with the necessity of the study group, the procedure he wasn't in favor with. He would've had them be more private than they were since anyone could get into these sessions...ANYONE. But he wasn't the one running the show, and it wasn't his place to criticize the methods of recruitment. He did feel the need to spread his knowledge of past defense classes as well as other forms of protecting one's self from the dangers of the real world.
"You sure you got your date right?" Hiro joked with his friends as he guided himself further into the room with his walking cane.

"Not late I hope" Anna breathed as she entered the room. She was happy to hear that Charlie and Drew had set up a study group for something like this. Ever since Defense Against the Dark Arts had been canceled, the gryff had not been too happy since it was one of her favorite classes and she had been sure it would be an OWL she would pass. But of course they had to go and get ride of it. Seriously what was the point in doing that?
Walking in, Anna was slightly disappointed to find herself the only Gryffindor in the room as it seemed. Not that the Ravenclaws were bad, but it didn't seem like too many lions had taken an interest in this study group. "Hey Drew!"

Blast the stairs. they couldn't make more of them could they? no. lets just make the best house in the school climb from the nice depths of the cool dungeons all over the castle up seven floors and even towers on occasion. Oh fun! Art thought to himself but he knew this was what he needed a way to get some DADA back in his life or at least thats what Charlie had promised him. He had hated the feeling he had last January despite the fact he had managed to keep his wand he was helpless, if he couldn't protect himself then he couldn't protect Fyona or his mother.
Ever since he got it the snake's nose had been buried in his newest book which Drew might just find useful, Modern Dueling and Defensive Magics he finally made it up the last of the stairs his wand and book in hand. He stepped into the classroom immediately looking for Drew upon finding the ol' birdbrain. "Hey Drew I brought a book maybe it'll be able to help?" he muttered softly barely able to hear himself his blonde hair covered his icy blue eyes which were studying the floor.

More people showed up, first his partner in crime, then Anna, and finally Art. Ever since the little Snake had gotten himself connected with Reina Diablo, Drew hadn't been too sure of the kid, but Charlie had assured him that Art wasn't really as bad as all that. If nothing else, the kid was tenacious... and obviously smart enough to know what the real purpose of this meeting actually was.
"Dude! It's about time you finally showed up," Drew teased Hiro first before grinning at Anna. "Hey! Glad you made it!" As cool as it would have been to have an all Ravenclaw group, he really was glad to see the other houses, and especially someone like Anna, show up.
"A book?" Drew asked Artie, willing to give the Snake the benefit of the doubt this time. If the kid brought the volume, Art already had a good idea what they were there to accomplish.

Layla had fingered the note Drew had sent her for a minute or so before she finally put herself together and left Ravenclaw Tower, descending to the 6th floor. Drew and Layla had spoken a few times about the study sessions before, but the note itself wasn't just from Raven to Raven. It was Head Boy to Prefect. Prefect. She had been shocked at the proposal when she was offered the badge, more so than Tapia's proposition for her to be a TA for her. Both were expected and both were on the verge of being overwhelming for Layla. But in both cases, she found that she couldn't refuse. Yes, she didn't think she was the right person for either position, but she wanted it.
So when Drew had first approached her about these study sessions. She was ready. She was plunging back into the Wizarding World, she was scared and needed all the help she could get. Now, when she entered the empty classroom that was slowly starting to fill up, she wasn't that girl who was absent from school for Merlin-knows-how-long. She was a teaching assistant AND Prefect. But she was still scared. She was expecting to come to these sessions to learn something, to defend herself against the forces that were working outside against them, but the badge on her school robes also made her someone other students were supposed to depend on. She wasn't sure she was that dependable yet.
"Hey guys!" Layla quickly found a desk somewhere in the middle, just behind where everyone was crowding and dropped her bag. She walked over and smiled shyly.

"WHOA!" he came in like a mad-man. He yelled like if he was drunk or something.
Noticing some silence. He opened his mouth, "Uhh... sorry," he said chuckling, then went to no expression. Why was he here? Because the bloody DADA class is down, and he needed the training of it. So, he was ready to learn some butt-kicking spells. But, he only wanted to learn it for defensive, hince the reason it's called Defense Agaisnt the Dark Arts.
Noticing Anna, he walked to her, and hugged her from behind. "Hey, hey, hey," he said. Then stopped and waited for her to do something about it.
He then looked over at Drew. "Hey, dude!" he said, then paying attention back to Anna.

His blonde hair was becoming a problem to Art but he liked being able to hide behind it, see out but others unable to see in. Art was about to take a step back he knew he was on ice with Thornton, he knew his friendship with Diablo had caused problems, to be honest though those stresses made him who he was. If it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger. Well Diablo didn't kill Art but she did make him his own worst enemy.
"A Book?" Drew asked.
Art just nodded offering him the book his eyes not even trying to meet Drew's, at least this time the floor was interesting.

"I call it fashionably late." Hiro replied. It seemed like he wasn't the only one with the idea as more people entered. Some of the people seemed really excited to be here, usually only Ravenclaws liked to spend their free time in study groups so it was a little odd with the level of excitement.
For the most part it seemed like a decent group, it probably was less than what Drew was expecting but if this first session went well the news of the study group would spread. This could also be a problem too, the more people that came the more the group would get attention...and not everyone would be happy about a group like this.
But at this point it wasn't much of a concern to Hiro, the more important thing at this point was the person who was missing. There's no way that Charlie didn't know about this meeting or its true intentions...that and it had been a while since they had been together.

The young Slytherin's behaviour bothered Drew, mostly because the older boy was usedc to the snake bouncing around like an overactive billywig hopped up on Cheering Charms. This kid was withdrawn and quiet. Drew took the book, but didn't press Artie any. "Thanks. I'm sure we can use it," he told the blonde as he smiled at the title. Drew recognized it and yes, it would come in handy.
Layla and Tristan joined the group and Drew was relieved to see his best friends had made it. Well, most of them. The co-host to this little shindig was still MIA. Hopefully, Charlie would show up and help him ougt with things. Until then, he figured, he should get the show started.
"Um... thanks for coming you guys," Drew announced, smirking at Hiro's comment. "I don't know where Charlie is, but she and I were thinking it would be a good idea to get a..." Drew paused, wondering how much he really wanted to tell this group. A quick look around and he realized he trusted everyone standing there... even Art. "We were thinking it might be a good idea to get a study group together, kind of to help us get what we needed and at the same time, maybe help the younger years out."
A pause, and Drew cleared his throat. "Um... we were thinking about how Defense hasn't started up again. I mean... they cover the stuff in the other classes, but... it's not the same." Drew paused again, wondering how the others would feel about this. He knew where Hiro and Layla stood, but what about the rest?

Anna was anxcious for this thing to start that she did not even notice her own boyfriend come up behind her for a hug. "Hey, hey, hey." Tristan had said and the girl jumped slightly. When was she going to get used to him doing this? It might take a little while to get used to it again. "Tristan!" she greeted turning her head to face him. "Had I have know you wanted to come to this we should have left the common room together." she said quietly. Well now the fact he was here that ment class was going to be entertaining but then again, Drew was one of the ones in charge of this so it was better.
Speaking of which, it looked like Drew was going to start these classes since he started a small speach. True that teachers were teaching some aspect of Defense Against the Dark Arts but it was not the same as having an actual class about it. Hear, hear! the sixth year though in her head while nodding in approval.

What do you do when you're just about twenty minutes late to an event that you planned along with someone else? Charlie was in a bit of a ruffle. She had severely underestimated the power of a few minutes when she had neglected to show up to a detention on time. No matter what, even as Head Girl, the Slytherin still had the ability to get those lovely time slots of hell, built up in pent-up, sadistic energy of the distributor who would have given Charlie more time in her boring classroom had she not had resorted to petty pleading to slide the time over for another time. At last she had to label her next appointment as an "administrational" duty in order to get out of that. That was the last time she would scribble an obscenity on the desk...
... blame it on the pure power trips.
Speaking of trips, Charlie had stumbled on her last step before getting into the almost pack house of students painted in each house color but yellow. She was quiet as she regained herself, trying to clearly hear what Drew was trying to do. Hmm... bad start. "No chance in hell that nothin's being taught in all the other classes the right way. Anyone that had Raynor knows that. Now it's up to us to get back to fine tuning our defense skills, 'cause we need them." Suddenly she was on a roll, on her feet the minute she hit the ground.
She moved more into the classroom, seeing the familiar faces. "Here's what's wrong with all this stuff-- there's no way no one is gonna know how to protect themself through theory. It's called practice makes perfect. It's called trial and error. If we don't learn now between all of us, you're gonna be in trouble outside in the real world with weak training.
"And another thing-- this goes for anyone who wants to work for the sad excuse for a Ministry-- no offense, Drew. Aurors-in-training need to ace-- and I mean seriously ace-- the OWLs and NEWTs. Hogwarts used to churn out successful Aurors like candy. Now we barely have the chance against other schools.
"I'm saying here is that I'm glad you guys came here, and it's for a good reason. We're gettin' screwed over here, and we sure as hell ain't takin it."
She nodded at Drew. "Sorry I'm late."
