Brittany couldn't help but laugh at his last statement. "I think at one point I wanted to become an auror, like when I was...oh twelve. Then, I realized what the job dealt with and completely nixed the idea."
She absolutely could not imagine going out there and fighting the bad guys. It was a courage that she just didn't have. Mainly because she was an over thinker. She over-thought everything: spells, decisions, what to wear, she was just way too indecisive. There was no way that she could ever be in the kind of profession that required her to make quick decisions.
"Being a reporter is something that is okay for the moment but isn't what I want to be in the long run. I mean, I've always wanted to be a writer. Books wise, not exactly newspaper. " Brittany started, attempting to explain her future career moves. "But, there are so many things that I would love to be. So many interesting jobs to pursue that I don't feel like I want to completely obligate myself to one. Sure that sounds a bit unstable but I'm just too curious to really.....settle into one career. Lately I've been looking into maybe working at the Ministry under the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Not exactly your area of auror, but more in the Improper Use of Magic Offices. Then, again I definitely don't want to sit behind a desk all my life. I'd love to teach at Hogwarts and...oh I could go on."
She realized that she was rambling and quickly ended her mini speech. It was all true. Especially the part about being a book writer. Even before magic she had wanted to be that and it hadn't changed really since. Blushing, she felt embarrassed for talking so much about her self, "You'll have to excuse me. People don't exactly ask about my future career moves much or even what I really want out of life."

"Well to tell you the truth I really don't mind. Its unusually nice to be around someone who doesn't think about either one criminals, or two the fact that I am a known lunatic. Of course there are the select few who aren't like that. One who tortured me all through out school and came back to haunt me only more recently, and another well who has become more of an enemy then anything else. To tell you the truth, I don't know the last time I talked to someone outside of work. Then again, I really haven't done anything but work for years."
As they reached the door he opened it for her, again allowing her to go in first. "Personally I think writing sounds like a lot of fun. You get to make up a new reality, live life the way you want to live it... its as if your free from the restraints that the rest of the world live by. Your free to express yourself really in anyway you want. Of course I still recommend the Ministry, even if they don't recommend me. I do however warn you beware of the Minister, he might stab you in the back."
They sat down and ordered their coffees from the waitress. He had of course removed his over cloak which bared the simplest of a sweater and jeans. It turns out he was actually quite fond of muggle clothing, it seemed so genuinely comfortable. And of course he wasn't the typical pureblood, so that helped. He pushed up the sleeves of the sweater revealing well muscled, and lightly scarred forearms. Scars had been part of the job, he was lucky to only receive a few here and there.

Brittany nodded a thanks to him as he opened the door for her. Upon ordering their coffees she listened to his opinion about a writing career. It was identical to hers except the small flaw of not making money until you've actually written something. She had done plenty of writing on her spare time, just nothing composed well enough to be published. Although, she did have hopes of one day getting everything together in order to write something complete. As he spoke she noticed his muggle clothing which wasn't too surprising. After all he had been outside of the muggle town that they were currently in the middle of. She looked out of place wearing her robes but didn't care enough to notice.
"Thank you for your input on that. It's nice to have someone else's perspective," Brittany told him, accepting the cup of coffee offered to her by the reappeared waiter.
Devin was quite a different man that everyone made him out to be. Of course, she wasn't expecting a raging lunatic or anything because she didn't gullably believe everything she read. However, she did somewhat think that he might be a bit more rough around the edges. The man sitting across from her she could hardly peg as an auror of many years that had been through multiple battles. He was so friendly and open, he was definitely more suited as a professor.
Curiously Brittany asked, "You've got to miss this excitement of being an auror though, right? I mean you said before that you were the prime example of what Gryffindor stood for with courage and bravery. Plus, you've always been where the action is. It's got to be tough to just sit on the sidelines now and...watch."

He nodded at her thanks taking a sip of his coffee. Then she began to bring up if he would miss being an auror. He really hadn't thought much about that, though he had to say being a professor had already given him more excitement on the job then being an auror had in at least the last five years. "I suppose I would miss the excitement of being an auror, then again I really didn't get much choice in the matter. Honestly though, being a professor has always been a dream of mine. Originally I only planned to be an auror for a couple of years. But now I find myself at home, my life has slowed down, I have a chance to breath again. In all honesty I believe it was one of my better career moves... even if the Minister decided most of it."
Devin took another quick pause, again grabbing hold of his cup and taking another sip. "Besides I've seen more than enough fighting in my day. Battles, aren't really all they are made out to be. There is little glory in death, and having to see it makes it all the worse. I like the thought that I am educating the future, teaching them how to protect themselves so they don't suffer like many others will." He laughed a little as he looked up from my drink. "Besides, I might find myself in the middle of the fighting anyway... I always seem to." With the fact that the school had already felt the Deva presence, and the fact that he now found himself with many Deva enemies he was sure he would find himself in more than one battle... if not most.

Brittany was surprised by his answer. She had expected him to say that he missed the excitement of it all but then again she shouldn't take the guy for granted. After all, he wasn't at all what she had expected. What was intriguing was to hear him speak of himself in the middle of fighting anyways. She knew that something was brewing behind the scenes but to hear someone like Devin Brady really say it aloud made it seem more realistic. It made her wonder what was going on behind the scenes that was being covered up. There was always something.
Her mind in reporter mode, she sipped at her coffee giving her head time to reel. Coming back down to earth, Brittany placed her cup in front of her on the table. She didn't want to interrogate him over what he had said so she decided to change the subject.
"So you teach transfiguration at Hogwarts, yeah?" Brittany asked and continued with a laugh, "I don't exactly remember ever having a steady teacher for that subject. But I loved it. Probably my second favorite subject, charms my first. I loved the classes that had you in action and doing things instead of just sitting behind a desk."

"Ive always felt the same way. Though I did tend to do well in all my subjects, I always preferred the ones with some action. I suppose that's how I ended up an auror." he smiled as she mentioned she hadn't had steady teacher during her time. Devin of course had. He had been there during McGonagall's time. "Well I hope liked well enough, because I plan to stay for some time."
"I don't know, really I've always felt that the subjects like potions and history of magic held no excitment. It was almost like you werent learning. Then again they both turn out to be completely nessicary. Potions is obvious, and history of magic is exactly that... History. And plus they say history repeats itself." He took a sip of the coffee taking a feel breath.
