Baal walked down the ever-crowded Diagon Alley, just wanting to get home to his shop. Of course, he had broken his wand at the end of his stay in Brazil. He had also somehow broken the clasp that held his suitcase shut, so he was holding it together with both hands.
That is, he was until someone bumped him and he let go. As he bent down to start picking up the mess that was his robes, it occurred to him that he could have Apparated home. Too late now.

Drew wasn't watching where he was going, probably not the best idea when Diagon was so crowded. He was walking backwards, his eyes locked on the gorgeous model lounging in the display window. Long, lean lines that begged to be caressed... perfect frame with curves in all the right places... body oiled to gleaming perfection... dang, he would give anything to ride her.
It would be a while before he could get a new broom though, and he reluctantly turned away and right into another person coming the opposite way. The other man dropped his things and Drew berated himself for not watching where he was going. "Shees, I'm sorry!" Drew said quickly, dropping to a knee and helping to pick the things up. "All my fault. I wasn't watching where I was going. I'm really sorry." He could blame it on the Quality Quidditch Supplies window display, but that wasn't rightly fair.

Baal was surprised to see the guy he had bumped into bend down and help him with his things. That didn't happen a lot anymore. Together they got his robes packed back up, and Baal stood up.
"No, It's okay. I almost expected it, the way today's been going. I'm Baal Nelson; I run a shop down the street." He gestured for emphasis. He usually wasn't this wordy, but he hadn't spoken English in a while.

"The crystal ball store?" Drew answered, recognizing the name and making the connection. He had never really had reason to go into that particular shop except for that one time a couple of years ago when he was looking for a snow globe for Felicity.
"Drew Thornton. Nice to meet you," the younger man introduced himself, offering his hand and one more appology. He sure had a tendancy to run people over. It was probably inevitable with his size, but still inexcusable. "I'm still sorry about the mishap. I should have been watching where I was going."

"That's the one," Baal replied, surprised. Not many people knew about the shop. Most of his legitimate business was done through the post. He had lost many good owls that way. Unless...
"Did I ever give you lessons?" He knew he had given his back-room dueling/self defense lessons to a lot of students over the years, and this young man did look a little bit familiar.

"No sir," Drew answered with a smile, shaking his head slightly. He wasn't sure what kind of lessons the man had offered, but assumed they had to do with Divination, something he had no talent whatsoever in. The only person he knew that had the gift of Sight was Hiro... kind of ironic since the guy was blind.
"I actually just graduated Hogwarts," he explained, not sure when he'd have time to take lessons anyway unless it was over summer. "Last I was in your shop, was a couple of years ago." he continued a little apologetically. "I was looking for a present for my girlfriend."

"Please," Baal said, "Don't call me sir. Baal's fine." He thought he vaguely remembered Drew's story.
"Is your girlfriend into Divination, then?" Immediately after saying this, Baal mentally slapped himself. He had no reason to believe that they were still together, and for all he knew he was opening up a can of worms for the guy. Still, there was nothing he could do know but wait for a response.

A smile and a nod was the best he could do to answer Mr. Nelson. Drew would try not to call the man sir, but he couldn't make any promises. It was pretty much a habit with any older male and there wasn't much he could do about it.
"No s... no," he answered with a small smile, almost slipping as soon as he started his efforts. "Not Divination. Just snow. I was looking for a good snowglobe a couple of Christmases ago." He had gone in on the hopes that the shop would have something, but couldn't remember if he had been successful or not.

Baal noticed the almost-slip, but he decided to let it go. He was relieved that the kid had reacted pretty well to his comment, and took it as a good sign. Chuckling at the notion of finding a snowglobe in his shop, he said,
"Is she cute?" Baal was surprised as soon as he said this. He was being much more open than usual, and he wondered if it was more about being home or the person he was talking to.

Drew must have found the magical snowglobe in some other shop. It had been an amazing sphere where the figures inside had moved through the snowy scene inside. He still thought it was one of the best presents he had ever given her and had never seen another quite like it.
"Yeah," Drew drawled and while he thought Felicity was the most amazing, perfect girl on earth, he felt a little awkward discussing how cute she was with an older guy he hardly knew. Drew knew it was harmless and just brushed it off. "She's still in school, but no, not in Divination. Sorry." He finished with a grin, knowing he and Felicity probably wouldn't have a reason to visit the man's store unless it was just out of curiosity.

"Ah, I never liked divination myself. Too flashy, not enough substance. No, I always preferred Charms and Transfiguration and Defense Against the Dark Arts... But I guess they got rid of that one, didn't they?" Baal said with a bit of sadness. Oh, well. It meant more business for him.
"So what do you do? For a living, I mean?"

Drew gave a small laugh, finding it a bit funny that the man didn't care for Divination yet made crystal balls. Of course, the artistry of creating the magical orbs probably had little to do with actually using them. It was also interesting that the man had the same sorts of magical preferences as he did and Drew nodded and smiled as Baal rattled off his list.
"Yeah, a few years back. Right around the time the school was invaded," Drew answered. He was pretty sure the offical word had come down after the Deva, but the class had been pretty much on hold before then with Raynor trying to deal with the Ministry. It was the crazy lack of reason that made Drew want to work there even more. Someone had to try and straighten things out, even if he was only starting his first year at the Academy.
"Me? I'm training to be an Auror," Drew answered, waiting for the reaction. Even some of his close friends had made it clear they thought he was an idiot for getting involved into that mess.

"An Auror, huh? They said I should have been an Auror. Except I'm dreadful with potions. Never could have passed a Potions N.E.W.T. Not that I really wanted to do it, either. Too much fighting for a pacifist like me."
Baal had been considering offering Drew a copy of a list of his spells, but now decided against it. If he was an Auror, he wouldn't need the extra protection. And Baal sure didn't want the Ministry to come down on him for anything.

"Perhaps we need more pacifists in the department," Drew pointed out with a small smile, though he was pretty sure the Deva wouldn't respond well to warm fuzzies and hugs. Shaw liked making girls cry and probably drop-kicked puppies for fun.
"So, were you on holiday or something?" Drew asked, motioning to the suitcase. Perhaps it was a bit forward, but surely no more so than asking Drew if his girlfriend was cure, right?

Baal wasn't quite sure if Drew was being sarcastic about needing pacifists, or if he seriously meant it. He was pretty sure they could use some of his spells pretty regularly, but then the Deva would learn them and they wouldn't work as well.
"Oh, just got back from a couple of months in Brazil. I went to help out a friend who had some trouble with some local creatures. Crazy time. I'd be happy to tell you about it sometime."
