"But... but...." She couldn't control the welling up of tears in her eyes. She really wanted to be careful with the choices they made whether they made them today or in the next seven months. "I don't want us doing anything that we'd regret. Shery almost regretted her life when she almost married my father... I can't have you do anything that you'll hate later on and have it affect our future."
At the drop of tear one, she looked away from him, and took three quick bites of her cheesecake. What were they getting themselves into? She wanted to ask, but was afraid to, for fear of having the baby listen to her doubts.

"I'm not gonna regret any decision I make if it's benefiting my family, Beni," he told her truthfully. Maybe his decision would bother him in the future and he'd want to get back into being an Auror, but that was something he'd deal with when it came along. He would have to start training all over again, but having done it once would give him an advantage and it wouldn't be the worst thing ever. Unless...he didn't have to do it again...
"How about this then," he suggested, wiping her tears once more as they started to fall, "I can finish training. I'm almost done this year and then I only have one more. Then I can take time off and be at home with the baby." It seemed like a half-decent idea and there was always a chance he could get back on the force after they had worked something else out. If it really came down to it, Ben was sure he could somehow managed to guilt his mum into babysitting.

Beni tried to focus on her dessert, but her ears were too keen on what he said. She was done with the cheesecake in a dozen bites, but now she had to look at him, and really look at him. She could imagine him clearly, holding the baby, playing with the child, and sending it off to school with her. It would have been a great benefit if he wasn't almost at the point of being a full-fledged Auror, and she wouldn't have to worry about him doing Merlin knew what out in the world. If only... for a little while.
She didn't want to indulge in the selfishness, but she liked the idea, even if she spoke out against it. "Honey... do what you need to do," she said with a sniff and one last final swipe at her moist eyes. She went to squeeze his hand and smile at him.

A broad grin lit up Ben's face as she agreed to let him do what he felt was right. If this was going to help them, he was glad to do it. Ben just didn't want his sacrifice to go to waste. Placing a soft kiss on her cheek as she squeezed his hand, Ben knew everything was going to work out. "Let's just forget about this for now, alright love?" he suggested as the waiter came by to take away the dishes and filled Ben's glass with water, "It's not something we have to decide this moment. And besides, I've got something else exciting to tell you." Ben knew his wife would be glad to hear this news and hopefully it was going to cheer her up a bit. He hated it when she cried and he especially hated that most of the time, it was because of him.
"Guess who's just gotten into the Auror program?" he quizzed her with a playful grin.

She really didn't feel like making another spectacle of herself, so she was fine with letting it go for now. He could have some time to really think this over well, and she would have to have to think about the same thing as well. Tomorrow she would have to head back to the salon and inform her bosses. There were going to be so many opinions that she would have to bear to hear, and she wasn't sure how much she wanted to care about it.
Still, he piqued her interest when he brought up the subject of someone entering the Auror training. It could have been anyone, and on top of that, she was so bad at guessing. She'd be more likely to say eleven if told to figure out what one plus one in half a second. "Who? Don't make me guess!" She whined playfully.

It was just too easy. Ben knew she hated guessing, but he made her do it anyways because it was she was so cute when she got mad at him. With a sly grin, Ben had almost decided on making her guess anyways, but thought better of it.
"Well, it's two people, actually," he told her, taking a swig of his refilled drink, "Your pal Deryn and her mate Finn Kendrick just joined the ranks. I ran into her coming out of her dad's old office the other day. She's gonna wanna know about this too." His eyes flicked down to Beni's stomach where his hand had come to rest again. It was weird and somewhat intimidating that there was a little person growing in there; it was his little person in there. Another grin crossed his face at that thought. He couldn't have been more excited.

"Wait-- Deryn's in training now?" Her eyes widened, but she took in a smile. She could have guessed it but it still came as a surprise to her. "Wow! I can't believe it! I wish I'd spoken to her about it! I never kept in touch with anyone but you though." Her lips formed to a smile. "Is she doing fine? Not getting too hurt or stressed, right?" She was at it again, asking a billion protective questions, unsure of to react about one of her favorite gals going into an intensive program.

"I think she'll do alright, actually," Ben told his wife truthfully with an agreeing nod, "She's tough and she's really excited about getting in. She asked about you and I told her what you were up to and she was really happy for you. I said you'd be back soon, so you should meet up with her for lunch or something." Ben rolled his eyes at her comment, taking another sip of water so he didn't say anything mean back to her.
"Actually, Deryn was quite impressive," Ben continued thoughtfully, remembering when he'd been watching the newbies, "I was watching some of their training and she blasted this one mannequin pretty badly. I was kind of scared."
