" I also believe it is a plant that needs to be pruned every so often. And it also makes the person younger too. It reverses the aging process." Violet replied.

(The OOC comment was not necessary to the thread, pointless, if you will. Please do not post OOC unless it actually is important, and that goes for everyone. Important does not include you having to leave for the night either.)
They were sharp, or at least had done some studying. That was a good sign. Very good. "Good, very good indeed, 5 points to both of you." Robert began with a small nod.
"However." He continued. "Miss Roberts, it does not reverse the aging process. Not alone. And the Shrinking Solution is a topic to ask Professor Gallaudett about." He finished quickly.

"It only works on some things like that and is temorary besides..." Drew mumbled from his slouched position. He didn't care an Abyssinian Shrivelfig about Herbology, but he knew his potions pretty well.

"Yes, Professor, I will ask him as soon as I have him for class" Violet replied. Taking her feather, Violet wrote a memo to ask Professor Gallaudett about the Shrinking Solution.

He had expected the girl to merely take the verbal hint and drop it there. He had not expected a verbal reply nor did he need to know what her intentions were regarding the topic of Potions outside of class. Though, it probably wouldn't hurt to explain it a tad further.
After all, some classes fields did overlap more than others. "Correct Mr....whomever. The effects are temporary should it happen, though the chances, are as you lightly touched, rare." Robert responded.
He then continued. "Now then, as previously stated, the Shrivelfig is used in a variety of potions, the Shrinking Solution being one of the most common. A couple others are the bruise-healing paste, and skelegro." He , knew what was next and therefore beat them to it.
"I know I just said Potions was out of my jurisdiction, but I don't believe Professor Gallaudet will mind if I overlap alittle." He finished finally, realizing really just how much the two fields depended on each other.

"Thornton," Drew corrected, finally figuring it was time to let the man know his name. The professor had made a good point... one Drew hadn't really given much thought to. If he wanted to be an Auror, he needed to do well in potions. If he wanted to do well in potions, he'd better know a little about the ingedients going in.
He didn't bother straightening his slouch, but the bored expression became a little less vacant.

"I shall assume, most of you know the effects of the shirnking solution already. Would the solution have the same effect without the Shrivelfig roots?" Robert inquired of them as he also marked off the Thornton boy's name on his roster.
Near full attendance, this was indeed an impressive way to begin the year.

"Of course not," Drew answered, thinking the question was kind of silly. Potions was an exact science. One little change in the ingredients changed the whole potion. That was something they learned as firsties.

"Right you are, but do you, any of you, know why?" Robert questioned the group. He definitely knew his stuff, but he was still rather uncertain of the rest. If the boy answered first however, so be it. He hadn't seemed to care much about the class until now, and that had now perked Robert's internal curiosity as to why. But that would have to wait until after class.

"It's the shrivelfig that gives it the shrivel," Drew answered, again giving the answer to a question he thought was obvious. "The rest of the stuff you put in is just to set off the chemical reaction, give it the right amount of shrinking... stuff like that."
He paused and gave the man an odd look. "This IS Herbology, right?" The guy was teaching more Potions than plants at the moment.

Cameron thought for a moment. Why is he talking about potions, when he's the Herbology teacher? He should be teaching Herbology, right? Cameron thought. She looked at the teacher with a blank look on her face. Weird...

Nic just looked blankly about the class. It wasn't from him being bored it was more he had no clue what was going on. He knew this was a bad idea and for not the first time cursed his father for making him come to this school when it was obvious he would be behind in everything.

The Thornton boy was right, he was branching off toward that gray area that supposedly was a boundary line, and some professors would argue he had crossed it from the beginning.
"Correct Mr. Thornton, this is Herbology and not Potions, however in order to truly understand a plant you must also know what, and why its used for. Know its purpose." Robert countered, hopefully a full scale debate would not ensue, but he was not in charge of that.

"So the shrivelfig gives the shrinking potion its shrivel," Drew answered again, wishing the guy would just get on to the boring part of the lesson so he could start ignoring it. Herbology was usually good for a decent zone-out period.

Nic looked to Drew back to the prof. and gave a huge audible sigh. "Excuse me. Maybe I"m the only idiot in this class, but what in Merlin's name are you both talking about. What is a shrivelfig? Why is this important? And why are the two of you talking like everyone knows what in THE WORLD YOU BOTH ARE TLAKING ABOUT?!" Nic was a little upset. Okay really upset.
