He would have graciously responded to the Ravenclaw's comment, had it not been for the Slytherin boy in the back's most random, and clearly inattentive outburst. Mind you, Robert was not one to severely lose his temper, he would not rage nor rant, but his voice would raise.
"I do not appreciate the lack of respect, sir, however had you been paying attention you would know exactly what we are talking about." Robert countered, his voice indeed raising a few notches, though he had other things he wished to not only say, but also call the boy, it was not within the allowances of profession. He refrained from these, and held his tongue.
"Now then, Mr. Thornton, you are indeed correct, but you are still thinking within the box if you will. Think of the long term. Without the plant where would we be, would it be better, or worse, or would there be little to no change?" Robert replied, after a seconds pause he added "Come on now, theres no need for this boy to carry the discussion himself.

"Well, without the plant in the potion, it wouldn't be a shrinking potion at all, considering it is one of the ingredients for the shrinking potion and saying that, without the plant in the potion, we would just end up having a potion that probably wouldn't do much" Seanna piped up.

"Didn't I just say that?" Drew asked. If nothing else, it would be a sign to the professor that he needed to ask a better questions because Drew, for one, had no idea what he was driving at.

Nic sighed. "I got that part. I meant what is this plant? What does it look like? How do I know if I have a shrivelfig? AND furthermore please excuse me if we all aren't as smart as Drew here. I don't catch on clearly and your discussion with Drew isn't really teaching me anything. Is there any notes or should I just jot down what is being said from word of mouth?" Nic was getting more and more frustrated. He didn't like feeling stupid. Though he was a thug from the streets in school he was honor roll. That was the only thing that made the teachers feel he could do more with his life and overlook some of his 'misdeeds' that he did. It was essential to get good grades if you want to be left alone when there are nosy adults about.

"Quite..." Robert muttered within a breath. It seemed he had confounded them, greatly at that. So much for making them think, as apparently they were indeed too used to the manual work. It was rubbish most of it, and all of it, common sense in doing that required no planning and very little instruction. The essence, of laziness.
"Very well, it seems Mr. Torque wishes to move along, therefore if no one has any objections, move along we shall." Robert stated, and after a moment began speaking again.
"The Abyssinian Shrivelfig, was discovered in the BC era shortly prior to the Babylonian Empire. This, being the Assyrian Empire's years. As its name states, it is derived relative of the fig tree. It is near the same in both height and width. The maximum height being a total of 25 feet, width of about 15 feet. It is more or less, a shrub."
He paused there, believing that was enough to try and absorb for the moment. He had enough faith in the fourth years that they could pull the important parts from a lecture.

Ah... the boring part of the lecture and one Drew felt he really didn't need. Who cares if it was growing in Babalonia or Absyria or where ever the heck it was. All he needed to know was it gave the shrinking potion its shrinkage.

"Okay so a shrivelfig is a push not a plant. It looks like a bush and it's really old." Nic read aloud his notes as he wrote. "This shrivelbush also makes a potion shrink. Got it!" Nic raised his hand as he asked the question. "Is there anything else I need to know about this plant." Nic was starting to believe this class was useless.

Robert winced lightly as he heard the boy read off his parchment. Indeed, his note taking skills could use some severe work. But, they would suffice as long as he knew what was what and could recall the actual information.
"It seems, ladies and gentlemen, that we have ran out of time. And no, Mr. Torque, that will, be all. Ifa ny of you have any questions..." And he was sure they would. "Feel free to stop by my office, or, if I am not there, check the greenhouses. Class dismissed." Robert concluded, briefly glancing at which group would be coming in next.
