"I don't remember it taking THAT long!" Arianna claimed, trying again and again to poke the boy. He continued to block each try until Arianna finally gave up and flopped back down with a sigh.
"Oh, look!" she exclaimed suddenly, pointing to the clouds far above. "It's a rubber duck!"

When she gave up, he went back to covering her with leaves, ignoring the pictures in the sky she was pointing to. Most of the time he just saw meaningless white blobs up there anyway.

"Ooh and there's a tree!" Arianna said, pointing again, pushing some of the leaves away. Again, it was hopeless and all she could do to fight back was to reach her hand under the pile beside her and flip it up into Drew's face. "And it's dropping pretty leaves!"

"You're nuts, you know that?" Drew asked, finally giving up and flopping back into the leaves and settling himself in their crunchiness. His surrender didn't stop him from tossing one last handful at Ari though.

"Yep," Arianna replied with a short nod. She'd heard it enough that she sometimes wondered if she really was nuts. Hearing it from Drew, though, didn't offend her. Maybe that was because their whole house was considered crazy.

Drew yawned and stretched out, making sure he manged to push another bunch of leaves onto Arianna. The colors and smells of autumn always put him in a good mood. Granted, it meant the snow was getting closer annd closer, but still, it was a good time.

Arianna shoved the leaves off and lay back beside Drew. It really was a good day. After the last few weeks, she'd give anything to have more days like this.
"Hey, Drew?" she asked, turning her head towards the boy. She paused then, her brows creased. "Shoot. I forgot what I was going to ask."

Drew extended his stretch so that it wrapped around Arianna's shoulders and he pulled her in to kiss the top of her head. "When you remember again, ask me, okay?" he told her with a smile. He was honestly happy and after such a long time of being miserable, it felt good.

Oh, goodness! Arianna's day had just gotten even better. It had been a long time since Drew had last given her that brotherly smooch on the forehead and she had missed it dearly. Perhaps her doubts had been just that and things would be okay.
"How 'bout another one?" she asked. Before he could answer, she continued, "If you could travel ANYWHERE in the world, where would it be?"

"Anywhere?" Drwe asked, thinking that was a tough question. The answer depended a lot on his mood and frame of mind. "Maybe Australia?" he answered. He'd never been there and it held enough adventure to keep him busy.

"Ooh, that sounds fun," Arianna nodded in agreement. Australia and some strange animals and lots of interesting places to visit. Or so she'd always thought. "What would you do there?"
