Normally she would be practicing with a golf ball. This was because a snitch could sometimes take hours to catch. If one practiced catching golf balls, one would effectively get more practice. (Well, the way Allegra describes it is better than I ever could.) Today, though, Arianna really didn't need the practice, just something to get out her frustrations. Chasing a little golden ball was a good way to do it.
Standing in middle of the pitch, Arianna held her hand out and released the ball she had 'borrowed' from the Quidditch ref (it wasn't her fault he hadn't been in his office). Counting to ten, she then mounted her broom and set off into the air. It didn't take long before she caught sight of the snitch (made easier by the fact that she was the only one on the pitch). Arianna bolted after it, chasing the little ball up and down the pitch, darting around and through the goals, catching up with the snitch more than a few times then easing up to let it fly off again. She was in no hurry to catch it. She still had a few hours until lunchtime.

'O' was the shape of Abigail's mouth at the present moment as she stood at the bottom of the Hufflepuff stands staring in awe at the Ravenclaw now darting up and down the field. Mesmerized by the girl's swiftness and ease with which she appeared to fly and reach the snitch, Abigail forgot the broom held in her hand and her purpose for being on the pitch. The first year hadn't ventured outside much (especially by herself) since the murder and decided to try and overcome her slight fear by taking a spin on the quidditch field. She hadn't been able to use her broom very often since Cris had taken her place on the team and didn't want it to get rusty (she also missed the feeling of the wind against her face on a beautiful day).
Straining her neck to see Arianna move around the hoops, stands, and up and down the pitch, Abby continued to gaze wide-eyed. I wish I was that good, she thought with a longing look upon her face.
