Dean breathed in the Lake air deeply as he walked towards the large body of water, his ( soccer ) football tucked under his arm. It was a few days after the feast, which had basically been pretty uneventful for him. But he did see what the stool had been used for, so it wasn't a complete waste. As he neared the lake Dean noticed something moving in the water, he figured it to be a fish or eel or something of the like. Shrugging at the sight of the water stir again Dean set the ball on the ground and began to dribble around a bit. At first he was just kicking it around, now he was kicking the ball with a force, he then basically chased after it and repeated the process again.
Dean felt a little lonely, he'd been there for two days and still nothing. Yes, he had met a few people at the Feast but, still... Usually for him it did not take too long for people to notice him and befriend him.
Thinking on this, he became a little disracted and kicked the ball sideways, sending it arching in the air and behind a few bushes. He walked over, expecting to see the ball somewhere on the ground but saw it in the hands of a girl. She looked to be his age. " Uh, hi. " He said to her.

When Keag had arrived on the train with her classmates a few days before, everything hit her again immediately. Sure, she'd thought about the last year and everything while at home on break, but there was nothing quite so sure to remind you of a school year as the school itself. Sure enough, though, she had worked her way back into a routine that worked, if not like clockwork, then close enough to be efficient. Allegra had all the prefects set up with their assignments, and Keag was no different than anyone else when it came to responsibilities.
Currently, Keag was enjoying some time off the job by taking a lazy stroll around the grounds with B.K., whom she had now claimed as her own.
Actually...it was a lazy stroll until a black and white globe hurled towards her head. On reflex, she lifted her hands to guard her face and capture the ball in her arms at the same time; she was grateful that her Quidditch skills hadn't become rusty over the summer when the catch was successful. She blinked lazily before registering that the ball she held in her arms was a soccer ball. However, before she could kick it up herself, an unfamiliar boy approached her, apparantly in search of the ball she held in her hands.
"Oh, hello," she replied, a small smile on her lips as she freed a hand from the ball and tucked a considerably shorter lock of hair behind her ear. "Is this yours?"

Dean did not see all of this take place but he guessed something of the like. " Oh, that? I mean yes. " He said to her, feeling slightly embarassed for hgimself but not enough for it to show too clearly. Dean wiped his hand subconciously against his jeans beofre reaching for the ball. " Yeah, sorry about that. " He told her as he set the ball on the ground inbetween his feet. Then, upon realising he had forgotton something he said, " Hi. I'm Dean Quinn. Sixth year, in Slytherin I guess. " He told her all of this with a slight smile on his face. " What house are you in? " The words fell easily from his mouth as he talked to this girl whom he didn't even know. Yet.

Keagan tilted her head back and gave the new boy, Dean, an inquiring look. He stood a full four inches taller than her, at least! He looked a little shaken up, but she had no idea why. "No problem. Happens all the time," she replied with a wink. Keag then proceeded to listen as Dean went through the typical Hogwarts introduction. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Dean. My name's Keagan Gerislynn, though I go by Keag in most circles," she smiled again, and extended her hand for a handshake. "Gryffindor. I'm a sixth year as well, and I'm also a prefect."
For as long as Keag had been a student at Hogwarts, she'd never liked introductions. They were always so scripted, they hardly seemed genuine. However, there was no way around them unless you shut yourself away and refused to make friends. What kind of living was that? Besides, as a prefect it was her duty to be receptive to people. This particular introduction didn't seem to be going poorly, though. She'd see.

( Sorry )
Dean took her hand and said, " Good to meet you, too. " So, she was in Gryffindor... Hadn't he read somewhere that Slytherin and Gryffindor were rivals or something? It was too hard to keep up with Slytherin dislikes, the other houses, the Ministry, the Admin. He just shrugged at this thought, thinking something along the lines of, ' Whatever. '
" So, what brings you to the Lake on this fine day? " Dean asked her, his hands motioning to the Lake and scenery and all. For all he knew he interupted her studying. But once he actually thought on this it made no sense, really. The term just started a few days ago. Now he looked at the bushes of which the soccer ball had originally gone into was still actually there. A bit awkward to him, but not so much. " Would you like to sit down? " Dean asked her.

Keagan grinned as she let her hand fall back to her side. With that, introductions were over. It was at that moment that BK chose to reappear out the bushes where Keag could only assume he had found something interesting to play with for a while. The cat slowly circled her feet, rubbing himself against her stockinged ankles ever so slightly as he eyed Dean. Keagan smirked as she glanced down, but wiped the look away when she looked back up to answer Dean's question.
"I was just taking a walk around the grounds. I was reminiscing a bit," she replied, her smile fading slightly. It had actually become a habit of hers ever since last spring when Dan had left for good, without so much as a final goodbye...but she couldn't think of that now. She was in the middle of a conversation. "Sit down? Um...sure." As she spoke, Keag gestured a bit away to a comfortable looking tree before walking towards it and nestling between it's roots. "So...you play soccer, eh?"

" Reminiscing? " Dean asked her, a curious expression on his face. He of course knew what the word meant he just wasn't too sure about what. He then diverted his eyes from Keag to the cat now circling her. Dean followed Keagan as she made her way over to the tree. He sat a bit away from her but still close enough to talk. Dean then replied to her question, " Uh, yeah. I usually play goalie. " He set the ball in front of him as he sat with his legs stretched out in front of him.
" Do you like soccer? " He asked. Dean himself didn't know of many women... er girls who liked soccer. His little sister did but that was meerly because when Dean would watch he he would always have a soccer game on the tv. With a shrug at this thought Dean pushed his glasses back onto his face... where they should be.

"About last year," Keagan said shortly, trying to reveal that she didn't much want to talk about it. BK climbed into her lap as she sat, still keeping his gaze on Dean, watching his every move. "Goalie, eh? Is that why the ball flung so far?" Her smile clearly showed she was joking. "Practicing your drop kick?"
Keag actually didn't know much about soccer. Some of her Rhode Island friends played, and she watched a pick-up game on occasion while in the States, but it wasn't something she was an expert on. Not that she was an expert on anything anyway. She thought of her OWL scores and grimaced.

" Oh. " Dean said, thinking that her vagueness simply meant that she didn't want to talk. He was fine with that so he just dropped it. His gaze lowered to the cat, now on her lap. The cat was still staring at him, it seemed that the cat was making sure he didn't get too close to Keag. At least that's what he thought about it. When she remarked back to him Dean grinned, " I have to skilled in more than one way. " He joked to her, even thought it was partially true.
" I'm ok. Not too great, but good enough. " Dean told her, even though he had previously been told otherwise by his former coaches. The truth about the game was the soccer wasn't too hard to follow. It was simple enough, or at least he thought so.

Keagan was glad to find that this new boy understood her quickly enough to know not to push the reminiscing talk further. She hadn't talked about it much, and wasn't quite ready to now. It seemed that BK wasn't ready for anything like that either. It was somewhat amusing to Keag how protective he was acting, and she had two guesses as to why, both equally plausible.
"That's how I feel about myself and Quidditch," she replied with a nod. "Just good enough to make the cut and not make a royal mess of things."

Dean raised and eyebrow to the cat but looked back to Keagan as she started talking again. " Ah, Quidditch player, are you? " He accused her jokingly. Dean wasn't exactly a fan of dangling from a broom fifty feet in the air. Plus he always felt uncomfortable flying with his glasses on. He also was a bit blind without them so really he and Quidditch didn't go too well together.
" You're probably good. Better than me... which isn't really saying much but... " He trailed off, thinking he had said too much or was just blundering or something of the like. It seemed likely because he never was really too fond of words. Sure they were great written down but spoken not so much.

Keag laughed as Dean eyed BK right back. "Someone's gotta fill the roster, right?" she replied, grinning. Sometimes that was simply how she felt about it, other times she got a rush from zooming around on her broom. Suddenly, she wondered about the fate of their house team. She hadn't seen Brittany in a while and only knew that she had been made Co-Captain half-way through the last term.
Dean trailed off, and Keag wondered why. There was nothing wrong wiith a bit of rambling, and it wasn't like he'd done too much of it. "I get by," she stated with a shrug.

Dean grinned back, he knew what she meant. Someone had to do the job so why not? His right hand went over to his left wrist, toying with the small chain on the band. He normally did this out of habit, or just whenever he was nervous. Now he couldn't identify which it was. " So what's your position on the house team? " Dean asked her, more or less to keep some of the conversation going. Then, he had another question, " So other than the cat here, do you have any um... " What he had been thinking of saying was if she had a boyfriend or whatever. It didn't exactly turn out that way but he sort of guessed she might know what he had meant anyway.

Keagan lifted her hand and brushed it softly down the length of BK's back. The cat purred as she did it, but his gaze still did not leave Dean. The nervous toying Dean was doing with his bracelet escaped Keag's own gaze as she listened to his questions. "I wouldn't say that I really have a position. I played Beater as an alternate a couple years ago, and last year I played Chaser. Brittany did call me a natural Chaser, though," she stated, forgetting that Dean probably didn't know who the seventh year Gryffindor was.
She quirked an eyebrow as he didn't quite finish his next question. The best she could make out what he was trying to ask was if she had any friends, as that was what the cat was. "Do I have any...friends?" she asked, trying to ake sense of it.

Dean nodded, he didn't know too much about wuidditch but he did know the positions that the players played. He didn't have a clue who Brittant was but he did guess that she was also on the Gryffindor team. Dean looked back at Keag as she tried to make sense of what he was trying to ask. What he had meant was companion but that would kind of sound wierd. To him, anyway. " Well, no. Sorta. " Dean said.
Now he was trying to make sense of what he had been thinking. " I guess I was asking if you had a boyfriend or anything... Not that the cat would be.... " He then did what he always eventually did when he couldn't figure out what to say, he laughed at himself. So far he didn't really know Keagan too much but she seemed to be pretty cool.
