Jack got up from the spot where he had sat down while he waited for the class to start and followed the professor to the back of the hut, where apparently they would be working today. Turning the corner he saw that there was a few creates with creatures in them and a freshly turned earth. He stood on the perimeter of the freshly turned earth and not to far away from one of the creates.

Pat was half-asleep when the chime rang throughout the school and Davenport directed them all, telling them they were in back today. Naturally, it took a few seconds for this to sink in before it registered that he was supposed to get up. He opened his eyes, and sat up, seeing Davenport and Jack head toward the reverse side of the hut. Pat got to his feet a little slowly, still tired, but he picked up his bag and followed after, stopping next to Jack when he reached the tilled ground. Pat noticed the crates nearby, but didn't think anything of them; they probably contained today's subject, but anything could be inside them. Better to wait until the professor unvealed them before trying to get his tired brain into action.

"We're working with Nifflers today," Davenport announced as the class gathered around her. "Before we let them out of their crates, we need to go over a few things first. So let's start with what you already know about the animals."

"Nifflers aren't those the animals that love all things shiny and burrow through things in search of shiny things." Jack said trying to remember what he had read in his Care of Magical Creatures book. So he really hadn't read it that throughly and could only remember this one detail about them, but at least he could remember something. Glancing into one of the cages he thought that they looked pretty cute.

"Excellent start, Mr. Roarbitz," Becca announced with a smile. "Which means if you want to actually work with them, you will need to secure your belongings." She pointed to an open trunk standing by the hut, indicating that whatever they didn't want eaten better be put inside.
"I assure you, it is niffler-proof," she said, shooing off a few of the students who didn't look so sure about it.

Jack was looking forward to working with the Nifflers and made sure that he placed everything in his book bag and then into the ‘niffler-proof’ trunk by the hut. He didn’t think that he really needed to place his things in the trunk, since he didn’t really have anything shine or valuable in his bag or on him that he knew about. Just to be safe though he followed the Professor’s instructions anyway, incase he had something in there that he didn’t know about or didn’t realize that Nifflers liked.
Finished loading his book bag into the trunk he came back over to where the Nifflers were, in the crates, and waited for the rest of the class to finish up securing their belongings.

She'd never seen a Niffler before so her excitement was quite apparant from the smile on her face as she tried to get a look at the animals in the crates from where she stood. When their professor announced they should place everything they didn't want the little guys to get ahold of she quickly walked over to the niffler-proof trunk as she had suggested.
After removing the ring her father had given her and a charm bracelet Kasch had given her she placed them both safely in the trunk along with her books. Being satisfied that they'd be safe Verina joined the class once more before the crates the Niffler's were being held in.

Pat's head rose slightly. So, they were going to be working with Nifflers today, eh? Worked for him, as Nifflers weren't exactly dangerous to someone who had perhaps only about two-thirds of his brain active at the moment. He looked at the furry creatures for a moment before hearing Davenport's suggestion to stow their belongings in the trunk. Pat took up his schoolbag, wondering if he had anything on him that he should put with his bag. He didn't have a watch, and the only form of jewelry with him ((the twin necklaces no-one knows about at the present moment )) were already stowed safely in his bag. Pat walked over to the trunk, placing it inside, then returning with everyone else back toward the crates.

"When you are done with that, you may take a niffler and hold him carefully," she instructed, making sure the trunk was latched securely before continuing. When she had been at school, her professor had done this very lesson and she always remembered it as one of his better ones.
"In the patch behind me, I have burried a number of trinkets and leprechaun gold. Nothing of great value, but shiny enough to attract our friends here," she told the class. "You'll be letting your niffler go and I'd like you to observe his behaviour as he digs. Note how he uses his snout and clawws to move through the dirt... as well as the fact that he returns to you with his find. The niffler who collects the most treasure earns himself a yummy dessert of grubs... and his studetn partner a slightly more yummy Honeydukes bar."
"When you are ready, you may set your niffler loose."

Already standing close to the cages, that the Nifflers were being housed in, Jack quickly looked into a few of them and picked out the Niffler that he liked the best. It was a fairly little Niffler compared to the rest and had a shorter snout, with thick black fur covering it’s entire body. Jack really wasn’t sure why he had picked this Niffler. It was just the one that had caught his eye first.
He didn’t know if it would have an advantage or a disadvantage in the dirt. He hoped that its small size would be an advantage and the little guy would be able to make his way through the dirt quicker than the rest and retrieve the most treasures. Cradling the Niffler in his right arm Jack headed over to the patch of recently turned up earth. Sitting down on a piece of grass by the patch Jack let his Niffler loose into the dirt. It immediately began to burrow it’s way through the dirt looking for the shiny things barred in it.

Ash stared at the strange little creature curiously and extended her right arm out slowly to touch it. She knew that they weren't dangerous but she couldn't help but feel as if it would bite her or something nasty like that. She wasn't too crazy about the Honeydukes candy bar, but she felt pretty competetive today. Ash took the niffler in both hands and set it on the ground, hoping it knew where to go because she had no idea where anything was. It scuttled to a bush and disappeared behind it. She looked to Professor Davenport, wondering whether it was allowed to do that.
" Aih" Ash hissed to the niffler, hoping that it was still there, as she bent down "come back!"
