With the unexpected detention of the Herbology Professor, a substitute was needed. Who better than the librarian? Ryder had to laugh. Just because he'd covered DADA for a few weeks, now they wanted him to cover Herbology? If was as if they thought he'd spent all his time reading the very books he looked after. Ah, well, it gave him something to do.
Sitting at the front of the classroom, Ryder poured over the book sitting before him. Every so often he would lift his head and frown at the plant before him. He was afraid that if he touched it anymore it would shrivel up and die.

Arianna had only just heard of the Shaw incident and wasn't sure if they would have class. To her slight disappointment (she was a bit tired today) she had quickly found that class was not canceled. She would never have guessed, though, that they would be having the librarian teaching them today.
"Erm...hello?" Arianna stepped tentatively into the room and glanced about. The only other person in the room was the librarian. And he seemed to be more afraid of the plant in front of him than anyone should rightly be.
"They don't bite," the girl commented, now moving into a seat at the front of the classroom and to the man's left. "These ones don't really even do anything, actually."

"Really?" Ryder raised an eyebrow at the girl. He wasn't questioning what she said, just why she thought he was afraid the plant would hurt him. He certainly wasn't afraid of the foilage. Why in the world should he be afraid of anything green, anyway? Ryder was sure he could even take on the devil's snare in his sleep. This little thing was of no worry to him. IT should worry about him, though.

"Yes...." Arianna bit her lip. She'd obviously been wrong about whatever the man was worried about. He was worried about something, that much she could tell. She wasn't sure what to say to Hailey's comment, though, so she focused on gathering her books out of her bag, hoping desperately that someone else would come through that door and relieve the awkwardness.

((I'm writing it this way in case anyone else joins in....))
"Well, let's get started," Ryder looked around the room, noticing that there were very few. Well, this was a N.E.W.T. level class. Not everyone made it this far. He certainly hadn't.
"This," he motioned to the plant in front of those and the smaller ones sitting before the students, "is mallowsweet. Burned by centaurs to refine the results of their stargazing."
Yes, it was word-for-word from the book, but that's what happens when you know nothing of herbology.
