Running a hand through his hair, Ryder wandered to the back of the room only to turn around and head back to the front. This was the class he had most worried about. He was afraid he'd get in trouble for not teaching the kids anything. Well, it certainly wasn't his fault some of them weren't paying attention to the lesson.
Sighing with slight frustration, the man returned to his stool at the front where sat a large tank of salty water. Resting at the bottom, rooted in the muddy dirt, sat a tangled mess of something resembling a mass of worms. It even moved about like worms and looked just as slimy, too.

"Hello Professor Hailey," Allegra greeted the man, giving him a small, sympathetic smile as she walked into the room. By now the rumour mill had been running at top speed and the news of Shaw's removal had reached most of the students (Allegra felt guiltfully thankful for the switch in subject).
Allegra was pretty sure the librarian was not looking forward to teaching this particular class, though she was sure some of the students would think differently.

What was so wrong about this particular class? Hailey should have been flocking to this class, in Ivy's opinion. This was the class that adored him the most. When word got out that Shaw had been removed, Ivy had been disappointed. Shaw was such a good teacher, and he allowed her to not wear goggles since he obviously understood that it was definitely a fashion faux-paus that was. Shame that a man like Shaw with fashion sense had been suspended. The Ministry definitely did not know what they were doing.
Then she remembered what happened when Raynor left and all disappointment washed away. She was rushing to the scene (one of the Herbology Greenhouses) with thoughts running through her head. The rumors... they say he's coming! They say he's here! I've been waiting for this class ever since Shaw left! Tell me he's here. Please, tell me he's here! With wind in her face she sped up and when she reached the entryway, she stopped for breath and to see whether he was truly there.
It was...him...
She gave a small smile, but in her head she was exploding. He's here! He's here! Thank God!. Ivy couldn't help herself but speak her next few words in a slightly-above whisper volume. "But, soft! What light through yonder window breaks? It is the east, and Ryder Hailey is the sun..." Ivy leaned on the doorway and smiled at the librarian.
"Hello Professor," she said breathlessly as she walked cooly behind Allegra.

Kellen hurried down to the greenhouses for the lesson. He'd heard the rumours, of course, but was loathe to believe rumours at this school with no proof.
But when he got to the Herbology class and Professor Hailey, not Professor Shaw was at the front of the room, he had a sinking feeling. He didn't give a second thought to the fact that nearly half the class was smitten with the school's librarian, though he'd surely remember it later. What concerned him now was figuring out what had actually happened to the regular Herbology prof.
"Professor Hailey," Kellen greeted respectfully. "So...do you know what's happened to Professor Shaw, then?"

Ryder nodded to the classmates in turn as they arrived and said their greatings. He wasn't sure how big this class was, but hoped all would go well. He was a bit nervous today and it had nothing to do with the looks Ivy was giving him.
"I'm afraid he has been detained," Ryder replied in response to Kellen's question. "I don't have any details, but let's hope he's not gone too much longer." I don't know for how long I can handle this class.

Kellen sighed, frustrated. He wanted to press for more details, but Hailey seemed like he wasn't lying when he said he didn't have any more. Word was that Shaw had been suspended for something, but Kellen couldn't dream of what it would be. He was one of the best professors Hogwarts had, in the boy's opinion, and he highly doubted there had been any moral questions over Shaw's conduct.
He'd have to find out more.

"So...I guess this is it?" Ryder questioned, glancing over the class. Well, less pupils meant even fewer kids to mess up in front of. The only plus that could be seen here might be the fact that Xin might find that the man really wasn't all that perfect.
"Okay, so..." he stood and motioned nervously at the large tank in front of him. "Can anyone tell me what this is?"

Based on the colour, movement and size, Kellen had a better than fair idea of what was in the tank in front of them. Plus, it had been on the syllabus for the day. "Gillyweed," he answered as he raised his hand. He was getting better at this Herbology thing.
