Charlie wished she had a monkey. Yeah... a monkey. One that could do her chores and night rounds. She could only think of owning one now, and it occupied the margins of her notes and textbooks, where blank spots were filled with a crazy monkey doing the dishes and shaking a finger at firsties. Random that it sounded, it was something to buy some time away from the studying.
Finally a haven was found in the Prefects' Lounge, where few people came and went and she could stay to read over what she needed as a touch up on her OWLs. But a small attention span could only ope so many lines of work, and she was off into her own world, a world where she could own a monkey. Boy was she sorry when she blurted out in a sing song voice, "Monkies are cool, monkies are awesome..."
(anything to get me back in the swing of things.)

"Monkies play pool, they play 'til night come," rang out another sing-song voice. This one came from the entrance to the Lounge, a smirk evident on the face that spoke it. Closing the door behind him, Pat walked further into the mostly-empty room, dropping his schoolbag on the middle of the floor. "In a singin' mood today, Charlie?" he asked, the smirk still on his face. He could see the work that the Slytherin prefect had around her. She must have been studying or something; being closed to the majority of Hogwarts did make this a pretty good spot for it.
Pat's reason for being in the Prefects' Lounge? The silver-hair had just gotten a couple books from the library, but hadn't felt like actually reading them there. He would have gone back to the Huffle common room, but he had thankfully remembered that Krissy was making some kind of concoction in the House today, and whatever it was had been starting to smell when he had left in the first place. He hadn't been to willing to return to that smell, which was probably worse by now, so he had come to the next best place: here.
Pat wasn't sorry to find that it wasn't empty, like he had thought it would be; company was always good, even if you were only planning on reading. Of course, having company could also mean that he'd get distracted... but that couldn't be helped, now could it?

Blast! Her secret desire's out. Or at least it sort of was. But it just wasn't normal to see such a thing come out of the girl, who's only small amount of rhythm came from flying and the occaisonal hum of a Weird Sisters' tune.
Now to play it off. "Huh? I didn't say nothing," Charlie said, pretending to go back into work, as if her life depended on the theories of the mandrake.

Pat didn't laugh aloud, but inside he was chuckling a little bit. Charlie was trying to make it out like she hadn't been singing anything at all, but rather that she was studying hard. Pat's books could wait a little while. This could be fun... or he could get punched out, but it'd be worth it. Hopefully.
"Really?" Pat asked, putting an inquisitive look on his face. "I coulda sworn you were singin' somethin' about monkies... maybe it was just my imagination though? Been thinkin' about that flock of monkies out in the Forbidden Forest, so you know..."

"That's just in Muggle propoganda films," Drew scoffed, coming in just in time to hear about flocks of monkeys in the forest. Flocks implied flying and everyone knew those dang flying monkeys were just a figment of some wizard-hater's sick and twisted mind.
He plopped himself onto a couch and looked at the other two, wondering why they were talking about monkeys to begin with.

"There's monki--!" Charlie asked excitedly at his comment of a flock of them being in the forest. She was, of course, excited to hear about it and just as ready to catch one of her own until Drew came in, shot down her dream, and went to lounge around. He was very efficient in the killing of dreams.
"Damnit," she said again, knowing that either Drew was too muggle-paranoid, or that she had been had by Pat. "There's got to be monkies somewhere," she piped up again. Was that a glimmer of hope in her tone?

Charlie sure made it a challenge for Pat to keep from letting out at least one burst of laughter; he outburst of "There's monki--!" had just about done it. But he was practiced at keeping a straight face, somewhat at least. And Drew had shown up, which could be either a blessing or a curse. He would take attention off of Pat, so he might not be found out, but he could also blow Pat's cover. Fun fun.
"Aw, c'mon Drew, just 'cause you've never seen the pack of monkies don't mean they don't exist," Pat queried, trying to make a case for his "monkies". Charlie had just thrown in her suggestion that there had to be some somewhere. "It's just like how people way back didn't know the kitchens were manned by elves, ya know? There's monkies in this place."

"Yeah, right," Drew snorted, knowing that Pat was full of it. If this was going to be a contest on who was going to pull the wool over whose eyes, he was on Charlie's side for sure. "Only monkeys I've seen around here are those kids you Huffles call firsties. Some of the Gryff firsties are kind of simian-like too, come to think of it."

"Think I can keep one of them, then?" She thought outloud, and seeing some of the firsties doing her homework. And when she thought to her pet shaking a finger at firsties, she saw the flaw in her desire. Firsties can't do prefect jobs. Heck, monkies were better off.

"Ya think you'd be able to handle one of 'em?" Pat said in response to Charlie. "They've been learnin' from the Flemings, and to be honest, I'm not sure ya could." Well, that was a bit of a lie. Only some of the Huffle firsties were troublemakers, and they hadn't been picking it up from Krissy or Rebecca. But Pat knew that a firstie had once sprung a chocolate trap on a Huffledude, as well as that another (or perhaps the same one) had let loose a bunch of Peruvian Darkness Powder in the girls' dorms. And if they ever did start taking lessons from the Fleming sisters... Pat wasn't cleaning it up. (( ))

"Watch me," Charlie said confidently. Training a firstie as a pet was the same as coaching a firstie for qudditch. It required some dedication and some toughness, which Charlie had. She didn't find it to be too much of a problem, whethere they studied under the Flemings or not. They were still young enough to influence.
