Lucas gave Felicity another sympathetic look and wondered if he should take a chance. Now that she was sitting next to him, he could do it. Maybe he would, but not just yet. He listened to her story, unable to keep himself from feeling bad. He hated it when people felt bad for him but he just couldn't help it. Lucas finally realized how hard it was to not feel that way.
Once Felicity had finished her story, he decided to take a chance. She had just hugged him and it seemed a little lame, but he did it anyways. Lucas wrapped one arm around her shoulder, pulling her into him once again. "It's not fair," he said softly, "That the people we love the most are taken away too quickly. It really sucks."

Easily leaning back into him, she wrapped her arms around him again. It was nice, even if the arm currently around her wasn't Drew's. And hugs all around were nice as it was anyway, no matter who was doing the hugging. Leaning her head against his shoulder, hoping he wouldn't pull away this time since it did feel nice, she just sat there and mulled over what he had to say.
No, it didn't feel fair, but without such happenings, things wouldn't have happened, would they have? Shaking her head very slightly, she decided to vocally disagree. "It's doesn't feel fair, no. But is it really fair to ask that they might have suffered in the end? I mean say what happened still happened, but they lived, isn't that unfair?"
And in the end, her family had been allowed to take on their children, the most important part of it all. Maybe it was unfair to them, but wasn't it better that way? That they didn't have to suffer through their parents suffering?

"It's easier to recover from an injury than from a complete loss," Lucas told her. Even if the accident had happened and they survived, they would have healed eventually. But the wound that was caused by the loss was one that would probably never heal, no matter how much time had passed. "But I suppose it is better and more fair if there wasn't any suffering," Lucas agreed finally. With the girl's head resting on his shoulder, Lucas looked down at her.
Why can't I just tell you? he thought to himself, wishing he could just say the words out loud. His eyes stayed on the girl, internally fighting his shyness. He wanted to tell her, to just say it, but he knew that right now wasn't probably the best time to do so. But when would he get another chance? He might not ever be alone with her like this again, both so vulnerable and both so afraid. But he didn't. Lucas just couldn't make himself drop that bomb right now so instead, he rested his cheek against her head, still holding the Gryffindor tightly. "Any way you slice it, it's still not fair," the Raven said finally.

Actually it was quite comfortable, the way they were sitting, but something started to feel off. Perhaps because of the way they were sitting? Or because he'd rested his head on hers? Or because he wasn't Drew? Felicity wasn't sure. It was nice, that was easily seen, but at the same time, it didn't feel right. However, she reminded herself they were just friends trying to comfort one another, she'd never had problems with such ideas before, wy now?
"No, it really doesn't seem fair," she replied quietly. Not letting go of him, she straightened up a bit, not sure of the reason she felt how she did. "How's your hand?"

Lucas felt Felicity moving and he let go of her quickly, sitting up straighter and lifting his head. He figured it was only a matter of time before she started feeling awkward and while he didn't want to, Lucas knew he had to let it go. At least he'd have a few moments, and it was better than not having it at all.
"It's alright," Lucas told her, remembering that he had been injured. His head had stopped hurting, or maybe he just hadn't noticed it. Looking down at his wrapped up hand, Lucas wiggled his fingers, feeling a sharp pain where he had been bitten. He winced, but only slightly and not enough to really be noticed. "Thanks again," he told the girl, "For wrapping it up and everything."

Lucas let go of her, and she felt everything fall back to 'normal' status. There was no longer that strange feeling, and while she did like the boy, she hadn't been keen on that feeling. Nodding, her eyes watched his hand as he moved it about. At least there didn't seem to be much damage at the moment, which was good; and hopefully there wouldn't be any at all. That'd be even better.
"No problem," she mumbled quietl before moving a little bit further away from him, on the pretense of looking at Sammy once more. Maybe he'd had time to calm down, and would perhaps crawl out now.

Lucas just smiled and nodded, letting her crawl away to check on the squirrel again. He mouthed a swear word, cursing himself for being such a moron, yet again. Would he ever learn? Lucas didn't know. All he did know was that he kept getting chances and kept blowing them. Now he'd be lucky if he ever got a chance again.
"Maybe I should go," Lucas offered, pushing himself up off the ground, "Sammy might come out if it's just you in here."

"Oh, don't go," she replied quickly, pulling herself out from under the desk. Maybe she really did do and say the wrong things with the older Ravenclaw boys. It seemed she kept making them think they should go away, which really was not what she wanted. Climbing back out from under the desk, she stood up and peered at the taller boy. The blonde really didn't want him to go.
"I think he'll be all right for a bit, and he did let you catch him first so I don't think it would make a negative difference. If anything, I should think it would make him come out faster." Leaning back against the desk, she let her brown eyes watch him, hoping for an answer of whether she had done something.

"Yeah, but I'm just distracting you," Lucas argued, going back to his original excuse for leaving, "You've got work and I'm just bothering you. Sammy will come out when he's ready." Lucas nodded to the girl and started for the door. His hand was on the knob before he stopped and turned back to Felicity, if for no other reason than he just wanted to look at her one more time. Realizing that was creepy, he thought of something to say.
"I'll get you my article by tomorrow," he informed the girl with a weak smile, trying to make it seem as genuine as possible. In reality, he just didn't feel like smiling anymore.

Feeling disappointment sweep over her, she didn't really feel as though there was something she could've done to stop him, no matter how much she wanted him to stay. Really, he wasn't distracting her, she liked having company and she worked better under pressure anyway. And yes, Sammy would crawl out when ready.
Lowering her eyes a little, she didn't look up at him when he paused and turned to her. "All right," she responded. Even though she didn't want him to go, again she told herself she couldn't stop him. But on the other hand, he said he'd get them to her tomorrow, so that meant she'd be likely to see him then, unless he sent an owl with his writings.

Lucas took note of the girl not even looking at him as he tried to leave and took that as a cue. He still smiled, trying to behave normally but he could tell it wasn't working. Opening the door, he said goodnight to her before closing it behind him. The Ravenclaw leaned against the door, hanging his head and sighing deeply to himself. "What is your problem? Huh? What the matter with you?!" he scolded himself, only half-aware that he was speaking out loud. It wasn't all that loud, but still audible to himself anyways. Pulling his hood on rather viciously, Lucas look off the down the hall, kicking at his shadow as he went. Literally, he was trying to kick his own butt.

And he left. Just like that. Perhaps she should find a new way to approaching the Ravenclaw boys. At least the older ones, she didn't think she actually knew any of the younger ones, at least not yet. Frowning slightly about the whole thing, she sighed. There wasn't anything she could do about it right then, maybe some other time. Maybe the next time she saw him she could figure out what exactly she did to push them away without meaning to.
Sighing again, she dropped back down to the floor, amybe Sammy would be ready to come out and keep her company, at least then she'd have someone to talk to. Hopefully though she wouldn't turn out to be like Celina with Emerald.
