"Okay," Drew answered, a little confused by her explaination. He hadn't really thought anything about the door being closed, other than squirrel saftey. Once he thought a little about it though, he understood her nervousness and answered with a tentative little laugh of his own.
He watched her get to work as Sammy seemed happy scampering around on the floor. "So what do you want me to do?" he asked, feeling bad he never got his article written. He would have offered to help either way, but now he felt the need to make up for flaking out on her.

Tearing her eyes away from her notes, she wasn't sure what to tell him. The article wouldn't take more than a few minutes once she decided on what to write, and there wasn't really much to do. The submitted articles had already been reviewed, the layout had been changed a few times, what was there really left? Perhaps something for the next edition? But what?
"You could take a look at the layout and tell me if it looks all right." The layout was her decision, and she'd changed it accordingly, or so she thought. But what if someone else disagreed? Opinions were good, right? And if she didn't agree she didn't have to change anything.
"Or you could play with Sammy if you want," she grinned at him. It was another option, and really she couldn't think of something for him to do. He could always do his own thing, play around with stuff for the next edition, his own article and whatnot. "I don't think it'll take me very long, I just have to decide what I want to say."
Really, she wasn't much of a writer, but she liked it. When she had facts and figures writing was easier, she didn't have to pull it from the air. So, figuring something out to write shouldn't be too hard.

He looked at the layout and was kind of glad he hadn't swept it all to the floor. It looked like it would be a pain to put back together if it had scattered on the floor. He wasn't too sure what he was actually looking for, knowing very little about how newspapers were put together, but everything seemed to be okay to his novice eye. He looked it over a couple more times just to show that he was really trying to help with the paper before he figured he'd never find any problems with it even if they were there. He wandered around the room a little, feeling a bit useless before sitting on the sofa and trying to call Sammy to him. He wasn't sure how helpful playing with the squirrel actually was, but it was something.

Concentrating for a little while, she had written about a quarter of what she wanted to say by the time Drew had stepped away. Looking up, she watched him for a few moments as he tried calling Sammy to him and she stifled a few giggles. Sammy was interested, but still hesitent. The brown-eyed creature was standing still for a moment, moving forward just a bit, then standing still again. But he was making progress to the Ravenclaw.
Returning her attention to the article she was supposed to be writing, she did her best to ignore the presence of the Eagle as she wrote, jotted in notes on the margines, and tried to get a full-out angle. While she was getting somewhere, it didn't seem to be working as well as she would've liked because she felt like she needed more from the people that were there. Needed what they had to say about it.
Music was a check. Noticeable costumes were a check. Food was a double check. Events, well, they'd been covered, barely. But that was where she felt she needed more input. Perhaps she wouldn't put this in the November paper, maybe she could work it into the December issue, she knew she should make mention of it, but she didn't have all of the information she felt she needed.
After a bit more of time, she put the notebook off to the side and slid off the desktop. Now it was time to review her layout, and most likely change something about it as she had done so many times before. The horoscopes were giving her a headache, she didn't like where they were placed.
Looking them over, she rearranged a few things. It looked good, and somehow, familiar. As though she'd already set this particular layout and had changed, she wouldn't have been slightly surprised if that were the case. Glancing over at Drew, she smiled at him. It'd taken a while to get done, how long, she didn't know, but at least an hour she figured. At least the article was written, or a short-version of it, and she'd changed the layout. There wasn't much else to it. "I think I'm done."

Drew had been trying to lure Sammy closer by making little kissy noises at the squirrel and he wished he really did speak squirrel. Maybe it would have helped and not felt so stupid.
He noticed she switched a few things around on the layout and he wondered what the changes had been. Probably something he should have noticed. Bummer.
He looked up again as she spoke and scrunched his nose at her. "I'm sorry I didn't get my article done," he told her. He didn't even have a decent excuse for missing the deadline. He had gotten frustrated trying to write it and had flaked on it, plain and simple.

"It's all right,"she replied. In reality, she'd been a bit disappointed, but it was all right. What she had would work, she figured. It didn't look too bad, and it was the first edition so it wasn't like there were major expectations on it. There really weren't any more worries over the paper at the moment. At least, she didn't want there to be, especially since she was done with the article she had to write and Drew was there. Teasingly, she smiled at him; "Just don't let it happen again."
Really, she knew why he hadn't turned it in. He'd already explained it to her briefly before, and she knew he would get it in next time. Carefully, she walked over to the sofa and took up a seat. It wasn't too close, but it wasn't far away either. Felicity had sat next to him, but not one of those right next to him type of things, and smiled over at him. "So..."

"I won't," he answered sheepishly and gave her a crooked smile. He knew she wouldn't be outright mad at him if he flaked again, but she would be disappointed and he really didn't like to be the cause of that.
"So..." he answered her when she sat down, close enough to be tempting, but not so close as to make it easy. Still, he wanted to make sure everything paper related was over with. "Do we have to print it up or something?" he asked, knowing Muggles ran presses for their papers and wondering if Wizards did it the same way. They used the same terms most of the time, but he figured it had to be a little different, especially with the moving pictures and all.

"Yes," she nodded at him. "But that'll be done the morning before it goes out. It's going to be done under a bit of supervision because the press we have is some kind of magical contraption and they want to make sure we get it right." Really, she could probably figure it out on her own, it couldn't be that hard to do, but she was willing to wait for said supervision.
"But I've really done all there is to get done for now. Tomorrow I'll probably change the layout yet again and review the articles once more."

"Okay..." Drew answered, nodding in approval. She had, knowingly or not, answered any concern he had over the paper for the time being. He was kind of interested in seeing the paper actually run through the press, but he could discuss that with her later.
"So..." he started again, looking at her first and then at the space between them. "Are you planning on staying over there for the rest of the evening?" Of course, now that the paper was done for the night, he figured they could both go off to their own dorms, but he didn't like that option much.

"I wouldn't say planning on it," she smiled at him. "Though I am quite comfortable here." There was a light teasing evident on her voice, as she hoped he was asking what she thought. The thought she had earlier once more flitted into her mind, it wasn't one she was willing to just push out, but she wasn't willing to bring it up either. She needed tonight to go well, she didn't want to start a misunderstanding or an issue of any sort by inquiring, she'd save the chance to ask about it for a later time, when she could handle something of the sort if one were to happen.
Sliding over a bit, but still not right up against him she smiled shyly. He hadn't said he wanted her right next to him, he'd merely inquired if that was where she was staying. And where she'd moved to she wasn't out of his reach, and he could always say something more if he did want her closer, right?
"Is this better?" she inquired, hoping he'd say or do something to show her he actually had been asking her move closer.

"I don't know, I was just asking for informational purposes is all," Drew told her innocently. He was glad she had taken the bait and slid over a little, but of course, he would like it more if she were even closer. He knew he could just pull her up next to him or slide over himself, but the teasing was more fun. The building anticipation kind of made it more exciting.
"I mean... you look kind of cold all the way over there in just a little tank top and I'm wearing this big old sweatshirt that's keeping me pretty toasty and all," he said with a sympathetic little sigh.

"You think so?" she inquired tentatively. He'd brought up the issue of her looking cold, and his sweatshirt, and suddenly she wasn't sure if he was teasing about the last time that had happened. It'd ended in a rather large fight, something she really didn't want to go through again. Pausing a moment, but not letting the small smile on her lips go away, she decided he wasn't. It didn't seem like him to do so. He was probably just trying to get her to move closer, that's what he'd been doing last time, right?
Really, she wanted to be closer. Sliding a little closer, she was right near him, not as close as she could've been, but pretty close all the same. "Just what are you suggesting?" she teased. There could've been many things he was suggesting. Most of those things went right out of her mind, but there were a few left. He could've been saying his sweatshirt was warm. That he was willing to give his sweatshirt to her. That there was room in the sweatshirt (one of the thoughts that should've been filtered right on through). That he wanted to show her just how warm his sweatshirt was by wrapping his arms around her. There were many possibilities.

"I'm not suggesting anything at all," Drew answered with a shrug. He hadn't even thought of that morning at the lake except for the fact that he had eventually been given permission to put his arms around her whenever he wanted and now he wondered if the same deal would be made for kissing her.
"I'm just concerned for your well being is all," he teased back. That morning by the lake he hadn't really been trying anything and had seen holding her as a nice bonus to keeping her warm. On this night, keeping her warm was the added bonus to holding her.

"Oh," she replied, eyebrows raised. Her well-being. If that was all, well, her well-being was just fine and dandy. Pulling her legs up, she tucked them under her and crossed her arms in front of her. She wasn't angry or upset, no she was just making herself comfortable. If all he was doing was showing concern for her well-being she didn't really have any reason to move closer, right?
"So, you're pretty warm then?" she turned her head to ask with a smile. "It's not too bad in here. I mean, the window is open over there and all, but it's kind of nice. You know, crisp and all."

Well, that totally backfired. Now the question was how he could save a little face and still get her to move closer. He hoped she was teasing, saying she was fine where she was, but then again, one never knew for sure.
"I'm pretty warm," he told her with a slow nod. "But I think my sweatshirt might be a little thin in places. With the window open and all, I think it will only get colder in here." Seriously, how was he going to get her to move closer without flat out saying 'I want you to move closer'?
