Professor Norbrook sat on the edge of his desk, wearing black slacks and a blue button up long sleeve shirt, waiting for his N.E.W.T. class to show up. He wondered how many students there would be in the upper level Muggle Studies class. When he was at school it had been his favorite, so he was looking forward to all those who had stuck with it this far. He knew that most of them would want to learn about muggles and their way of life and had planned on even having a mock trial if enough of the students showed up. Law was one of his favorite muggle subjects and he thought it would be fun to act it out instead of just reading about it and listening to his lecture on it.
All of his communication equipment from his first class had been put away and new posters and diagrams explaining how the justice system works and the different people involved in it adorned the walls. He loved magic for the simple reason that it was so easy to change the appearance of his room to fit the curriculum he had planned. He had laid out paper and pencils on each one of the desks for them to take notes with. He also expected them to take these with them because he required all of his homework to be done with paper and pencils instead of the usual parchment and quills.

Charon walked into his least favorite class yawning. Insomnia had struck once again last night, and it was going to be difficult to stay awake. As he entered, he noticed that Professor Stern was not in the classroom. Instead, there was a different man. That struck Charon as bit odd, but not quite as odd as what was on the desks. Paper and pencils. He'd finally gotten used to writing with a quill again, after years of not having used one, and now he had to go back to the muggle ways. The way things seemed to change just to annoy him never ceased to surprise him.
Charon took a seat near the back corner of the room. and set his bag down. No point in getting out quill and parchment. Of course, the fact that it was pencil was a bit annoying as well. If it had to be muggle writing instruments, why couldn't it have been a pen? As he sat down, he asked the man at the front of the room, "Is Professor Stern sick and you're subbing for him or something?" He supposed the man could also easily be one of the Ministry officials wandering the school, bt he found that a bit less likely. Why would a Ministry official be waiting instead of a teacher? "Oh, and do you have a pen? I hate using pencil," he added. The materials were there for a reason, and he was sure it wasn't to learn about them.

Lily walked into the room glad and excited. No more Professor Stern (for whom she hadn't had the greatest respect for) and they had what she wanted - a class with the 7th years. It was either class with the 7th years or a class for themselves and her wish had been fufilled. So much for the sit-in, but either way, her goal was accomplished. She took a seat and noticed the pencil and paper. That was good for her. She used pencil and paper when she wrote on a daily basis for personal things anyways. She was a muggleborn and yet she took this class. Why? Because it was the NEWT she had needed, back when she knew what she wanted to do anyways.

Professor Norbrook watched as his first N.E.W.T. student entered the classroom. Still sitting on the edge of his desk moving his legs back and forth in the air he replied, "Full time subbing is more like it. Something came up with Professor Stern and he is no longer teaching this class, I am." Hoping lightly off of his desk and walking behind it he opened one of his drawers and took out a pen so that the boy could write with it. Shutting his desk drawer he walked over to where the boy was sitting and handed it to him, "There you go. I don't care what you use as long as it is commonly used by a muggle and is acceptable for homework by there standards." He added this last part in because he didn't want to get any homework turned in done in marker or anything like that. Hearing a creek of the door he looked up to see another one of his students arriving. "Just a few more minutes and we will be getting started," he informed them. He hoped that a few more students would trickle in by then.

Charon took the pen from the professor with a nod and a "thank you." He really did hate pencil, it smeared far too easily. It was even worse that writing with a quill, and that was pretty bad sometimes. "So've you got a name, or should we just call you Proffman?" he asked. Actually, he liked the idea of calling a teacher "Proffman." So much so that he planned on doing it no matter what the man's name was. Yawning again, he stretched in his seat. There was nothing like hearing those vertabrae pop.
He hadn't seen Lily walk in, nor had he heard her, so her presence in the room was completely unknown to him. Which was probably a good thing. The last time he'd run into her, things had been rather less than friendly.

Dean walked into the classroom with a slight annoyed look on his face. He had woken up late that morning and when he was awakened, it was by some elf throwing water on him. Shaking his head slightly, he looked to the new Professor and shrugged, they got new ones all the time so it didn't really matter too much to him. He sat down in one of the desks and picked up a pencil, starting to draw miscelaneous things, like squiggles and circles here and there. He tapped the paper lightly with his wand and it the drawings cleared away. He looked up again and saw some other people in the class room. He nodded at each of them.

“You can call me Professor Norbrook, Norbrook, James it really doesn’t matter to me.” he said off handedly. “Just as long as you don’t call me anything offensive or rude then we should get along just fine.”
“Well we were going to get into muggle law and its proceedings, but considering the lack of students in this class it really isn’t feasible to do at the moment. Unless you just want to hear me lecture about it all day and where is the fun in that. So we’ll save the mock trial for a different lesson when hopefully more people will show up or I’ll have had a chance to get some of my other class to volunteer. Instead we will be doing muggle transportation, which may even entail a little practice driving or something like that.” Norbrook said. He had brought a muggle simulator for driving with him to the school so that his students could see how muggles got around. He had always planned on doing a lesson on driving but thought that it would be later on in the school year, oh well, he didn’t really mind moving it up to now.
“I think that we should start off with a list of what types of muggle transportation there are. We don’t really need to go into detail about them, that is a far more advanced class that muggles even take. So we’ll just start with a general overview and then I’ll just give the basic idea of each. So can anyone give me a few examples?”

Lily raised her hand into the air before speaking. "Train, boat, car, bicycle, truck, semi-truck, plane, alright airplane if you want to be specific, van, do you need me to go on or will that do?" She would have liked to have a mock trial, but oh well, you had to settle for what you could get. She doubted they would get more students; this was a small class the whole time. Anyone was better than the last guy though. She looked over to Dean. He was going to do the protest with her, which they now had no reason for.

As Lily gave a whole list of examples Norbrook flicked his wand and placed them up on the board so that everyone would know what ones had been mentioned and what hadn't. He also listed them under where they were used, like in the air, on the ground, or in the water.
Ground Train Truck Semi-Truck Car Bicycle Van
Water Boat
Air Airplane
"Ok so here is the list that we have so far. Can anyone else add to it or see something that we have missed?" Norbrook asked trying to give the other students a shot at naming a few before letting Lily continue to give some. He had several things that they hadn't mentioned in mind.

The silence was startling. He hadn't ever had a class that was so quite, but oh well it didn't concern him that much. "So no one can think of anything that we are missing here?" Norbrook said motioning to the board. "It doesn't have to be anything that runs with a motor. It just has to be something muggles use to get from one place to the other. For example a skateboard or roller blades doesn't run on anything except man power." Giving them a few more moments to mull it around he gave a brief explanation of each of the items on the board.
As he waited for more answers the bell sounded to signal that class was over. "For homework just look into what a wave runner is and make sure you are familiar with the car and how it operates." Norbrook said getting to his feet. He was a bit disappointed that he had had to alter the classes lesson for today because it meant that there was no hands on activity, but he would make it up to them next time. "Next time I'll arrange, if possible, to have a few of these here so that you can play on them for a bit at the beginning of class before we move on to the next subject. Class dismissed."
